The HGS mobile application, widely used by vehicle owners in Turkey, was hacked last night, with users receiving notifications containing a Bitcoin address.

Cyberattack Leads to Panic Among Millions

Adding to the growing trend of cyberattacks, hackers gained unauthorized access to HGS’s notification service. They sent extortion messages to users’ phones, stating, “If you do not send $25,000 to this BTC address, I will release all your data.” This caused widespread panic among millions of users.

PTT Responds to HGS Bitcoin Extortion

Following the attack, concerns arose over whether hackers had accessed users’ passwords and payment information. However, a statement from PTT provided some relief:

“An unauthorized access incident occurred on the messaging service of our HGS mobile application from abroad, resulting in notifications unrelated to our company being sent to some users. After the incident, our security systems were activated promptly, and necessary technical and operational measures were implemented. No data loss or unauthorized access to user information occurred during this process.”

PTT also announced that it has initiated legal proceedings and is actively working to identify the perpetrators. The organization reassured users that their information remains secure.
