Crypto markets closed the week driven less by charts and more by shifting expectations. On one side, social platforms are preparing to bring trading directly into the feed. On the other, institutional money is quietly stepping back in. And for Bitcoin holders, a deeper question is starting to surface: if inflation cools, why keep holding?

The mood feels different. Not loud. More reflective.

X plans in-app trading with Smart Cashtags

According to X Product Manager Nikita Bier, the platform’s upcoming Smart Cashtags feature is expected to launch within “a few weeks.”

Users will be able to buy and sell supported stocks and cryptocurrencies directly from their timeline, without leaving the app.

In a post shared Saturday, Bier said X is rolling out several tools at once, including Smart Cashtags, designed to let people trade financial assets straight from the feed.

This move ties closely to Elon Musk’s long-stated vision of turning X into an “everything app” after acquiring the platform in 2022.

For the crypto community, this isn’t just another feature update.

X — alongside Telegram — already acts as a central communication hub for traders and investors. Embedding execution directly into social flow changes behavior, not just UX. It quietly merges content, sentiment, and action. That matters.

ARK reverses course, adds $15.2M in Coinbase shares

On the institutional front, ARK Invest made a notable return to Coinbase Global.

Led by Cathie Wood, ARK purchased Coinbase shares across three actively managed ETFs, totaling roughly $15.2 million. The buys were spread through ARKK, ARKW, and ARKF.

The timing aligned with a sharp move in Coinbase stock, which closed the session around $164, up roughly 16% on the day.

ARK also increased exposure to Roblox during the same session. It doesn’t feel like a broad risk-on wave. More selective. Tactical. The kind of buying that tends to appear when volatility creates openings.

Not a full reversal — but not passive either.

Pompliano: Bitcoin’s real test begins as inflation cools

Bitcoin entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano argues that investors are now entering a more difficult psychological phase.

With inflation easing, holding Bitcoin becomes less emotionally obvious. Speaking on Fox Business, Pompliano said the core challenge is simple: can people still hold Bitcoin when they’re no longer facing daily inflation pressure?

Do they still believe in the limited-supply narrative?

“If money printing returns, Bitcoin rises,” he noted. But the question now is patience.

Pompliano added that both Bitcoin and gold remain strong long-term assets. Still, the real stress test comes during quieter periods — when urgency fades.

US CPI slowed to 2.4% in January, down from 2.7% in December. On paper, progress. Yet Moody’s chief economist Mark Zandi recently warned that inflation “looks better on paper than it really is.”

At the same time, crypto sentiment has deteriorated sharply.

The Crypto Fear & Greed Index dropped to 9, signaling “Extreme Fear,” a level not seen since June 2022. Macro uncertainty continues to linger.

The Supreme Court set February 20 as decision day on tariff-related issues. Markets currently price a roughly 30% chance of a Fed rate cut by April, with odds rising above 80% by June. A third cut later this year is already being priced near 50%.

So the picture is layered. Social platforms are pulling crypto inward. Institutional capital is picking spots. Bitcoin holders are facing a quieter, more personal test of conviction. Not everything moves on charts. Sometimes it moves in mindset.

A new wave of Bitcoin whales is changing the market landscape. According to on-chain data, new Bitcoin whales now control 45% of the total Whale Realized Cap, marking a major generational shift among the largest holders.

At the end of October 2024, Bitcoin’s price dropped below $112,788, pushing these new holders into losses for the first time in a year. This transition raises questions about whether they can withstand market pressure as older whales offload holdings.

Whale Realized Cap Signals a Power Shift

The Realized Cap measures Bitcoin’s total value based on the last on-chain transaction price for each coin. The Whale Realized Cap reflects the capital invested by large holders owning over 1,000 BTC.

Data from CryptoQuant shows that new whales’ share of the realized cap has risen sharply. However, for the first time since October 2023, these new whales now have a negative Unrealized Profit Ratio — meaning their average entry price of $112,788 is higher than the current BTC price of $110,196.

Meanwhile, older whales who accumulated Bitcoin at lower prices remain profitable, giving them greater resilience during downtrends and potentially adding selling pressure if new whales panic.

Selling Pressure and Market Psychology

This ongoing distribution from old whales to new whales could intensify selling pressure if sentiment weakens further. Historically, such transitions — where experienced holders sell to newer investors — have preceded deeper market corrections.

Open Interest across futures markets has declined, signaling weaker trader confidence. Lower participation means reduced volatility in the short term but also indicates uncertainty among investors about BTC’s near-term direction.

If new whales start selling to cut losses, Bitcoin could face additional downside. Conversely, if they hold through current levels, the market might find stability soon.

What to Watch Next

Analysts highlight three key signals to monitor:

New whale behavior — large sell-offs could push BTC below $100,000.

Long-term holder activity — renewed accumulation could stabilize the market.

Futures Open Interest — a rebound could mark a short-term recovery trend.

The next few weeks will reveal whether this new generation of whales has the same conviction as their predecessors — a factor that could shape Bitcoin’s trajectory into 2025.

You can also freely share your thoughts and comments about the topic in the comment section.

The crypto market made a powerful comeback in 2025. Global capitalization surged to $3.8 trillion, creating new billionaires and expanding the fortunes of existing ones. At the center of this boom stand the leaders of exchanges, stablecoins and protocols. Here are the top 10 richest crypto CEOs and founders of 2025.

Who tops the crypto billionaire list in 2025?

At number one is Binance founder Changpeng Zhao. CZ’s fortune is estimated at $62.9 billion. His 90% stake in Binance and massive BNB holdings fuel his wealth. Although he stepped down as CEO in 2023, his dominance in the crypto sector remains unrivaled.

Second place belongs to Giancarlo Devasini, the financial architect behind Tether and Bitfinex. With a 47% stake in Tether, his net worth climbed to $22.4 billion. As the key force behind USDT liquidity, Devasini quietly wields enormous influence over global crypto trading.

Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, ranks third. His 14–15% stake in the company pushes his fortune between $9.6 billion and $12.8 billion. Armstrong continues to bridge traditional finance with Web3 adoption, making him one of the industry’s most recognized faces.

Michael Saylor takes fourth place with a net worth of $10.1 billion. Through Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), he oversees 628,000 BTC worth over $72 billion. His relentless Bitcoin advocacy still shapes investor confidence.

Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen returned to the list with $7–8 billion in wealth. Thanks to XRP’s recovery and Ripple’s expansion into tokenized assets, Larsen remains an influential voice in payments and regulation.

Other crypto billionaires shaping 2025

Stellar founder Jed McCaleb follows with an estimated $2.9 billion fortune. His legacy includes Mt. Gox, Ripple and now Stellar, while he also develops his aerospace startup Vast.

Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital, holds $2.7 billion. His company manages institutional crypto investments and owns over 17,000 BTC, keeping him a central player in digital finance.

Barry Silbert, founder of Digital Currency Group, is worth $3–3.2 billion. Early bets on Bitcoin, Ethereum and numerous startups secured his place despite DCG’s past challenges.

Entertainment-driven crypto wealth appears with Bijan Tehrani, co-founder of Stake.com. His net worth sits at $2.8 billion, built on crypto-powered betting platforms and global sponsorships.

Finally, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin holds around 278,000 ETH worth $1.025 billion. While not a CEO, he remains the intellectual leader of Ethereum and Web3’s most influential builder.

The weakness in BTC price had an immediate impact on the RSI, causing it to drop to “oversold” levels not seen since the beginning of October.

The Drop in BTC Price Sends RSI Back to October Levels

Bitcoin’s 5% drop in a single day had a significant impact on the RSI in lower timeframes. On the hourly chart, the RSI dropped from a local high of 81.7 on January 6 to a three-month low of 16.6 the following day.

Such a rapid decline is rarely seen; BTC/USD retraced from “overbought” to “oversold” levels within 24 hours. The last time the index measured this low, BTC/USD was trading at $60,000.

BTC/USD 1-Hour Chart With RSI Data

RSI is an indicator that measures trend strength and includes three key levels for observers: the 30 “oversold” boundary, the 50 midpoint, and the 70 “overbought” threshold.

When the price crosses these levels, depending on the direction, traders can make inferences about the future of a given uptrend or downtrend. During bull markets, Bitcoin often spends extended periods in the “overbought” territory.

With the recent decline, traders quickly predicted that the BTC price would experience an upward correction due to the RSI’s overreaction.

“The 1-hour Bitcoin RSI is at 16 and the 4-hour RSI is almost completely reset,” commentator Bitcoin Munger reported on the X platform while observing inflows to US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Despite making new local lows on January 8, RSI moved in the opposite direction of the spot price downtrend; this deviation is typically followed by price relief.

“Bitcoin #BTC $BTCUSD has reached the next RSI(5) oversold point on the 6-hour chart…” trader and portfolio manager David Cox continued, analyzing other low-timeframe RSI readings.

BTC/USD 6-Hour Chart With RSI Data

Bitcoin investors are expecting new lows in January, with bearish BTC price targets still circulating ahead of the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

These targets include a return to the range lows at or just below $90,000, along with deeper corrections to $80,000 or lower.

Adding to the downside forecasts, popular trader Bluntz used Elliott Wave Theory to predict new lows within the next two weeks.

A chart uploaded to the X platform implied that new all-time highs should result once the market rebounds.

Bitcoin investors pulled a record total of $333 million from BlackRock’s IBIT ETF over three consecutive trading days.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) saw its largest daily outflow since launching a year ago. After the New Year holiday, trading resumed in the U.S., and on January 2, IBIT experienced a record outflow of $332.6 million, according to data from Farside Investors.

This outflow marks the highest amount since the product’s launch in January 2024, surpassing the previous record of $188.7 million set on December 24. Additionally, it highlights a new record of three consecutive trading days of outflows for this BTC investment product. Over the past week, IBIT has seen a total outflow of $392.6 million.

BlackRock ETF Outflows Accelerate

The latest outflows can be seen as a minor fluctuation in the broader picture. According to Bloomberg data shared by senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, BlackRock’s fund ranked third among all exchange-traded funds in the United States in 2024, with inflows totaling $37.2 billion.

The leading ETF for the year was Vanguard 500 Index Fund, with inflows of $116 billion, while iShares Core S&P 500 ETF came in second with $89 billion in inflows.

Bitcoin pioneer Adam Back commented, “Maybe in 2025, Bitcoin ETFs will take the top spot with more inflows and higher prices.”

Top ETFs in the U.S. by Inflows in 2024

On January 2, despite the outflow trend from BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, Bitwise, Fidelity, and Ark 21Shares saw inflows of $48.3 million, $36.2 million, and $16.5 million, respectively. Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust also saw a small inflow of $6.9 million, while its larger GBTC fund experienced an outflow of $23.1 million.

The total net outflow for the day came to $242 million, as BlackRock’s outflows offset the inflows of its competitors.

On the same day, ETF Store President Nate Geraci shared some predictions for crypto ETFs in 2025.

These include the merging of spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, the trading of spot ETH ETF options, in-kind creation and redemption options for spot BTC and ETH ETFs, staking for spot Ether funds, and the approval of a spot Solana ETF.

Geraci commented, “Actually, all of these will happen.”
