The transaction limitations on the Bitcoin network have pushed developers toward sidechain solutions. Bitfinity Network positions itself not as a “savior,” but as a technical solution layer. With Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, it enables Solidity-based projects to integrate into the Bitcoin ecosystem. Through sharding architecture, it offers a theoretical throughput of 1000+ TPS.

What is Bitfinity Network?

Bitfinity Network is a high-performance Layer-2 sidechain built for Bitcoin. It is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing Solidity developers to deploy scalable and fast applications on Bitcoin. The network aims to maintain Bitcoin’s security while enabling faster and lower-cost transactions and supports managing assets like Runes and Ordinals via smart contracts. Sharding enables over 1000 TPS, and transactions finalize in 2–3 seconds.

Team and Founders

Bitfinity was founded by Artia Moghbel and Jacob Philips. Robert Lauko serves as CEO, and Michael Lee as VP of Marketing. Former director Arthur Falls and, according to some sources, co-founder Max Chamberlin also contributed. The team is composed of blockchain and crypto veterans. Bitfinity is backed by investors such as Polychain Capital and ParaFi Capital.

Financial Backing and Investors

Total funding: USD 19 million. In the latest round, USD 7 million was raised at a valuation of USD 130 million. Key investors include Polychain Capital, ParaFi Capital, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Warburg Serres, Dokia Capital, Draft Ventures, Beacon Fund, and 9 Yards Capital.

Key Ecosystem Partnerships:

Concept and Functionality

Bitfinity operates parallel to Bitcoin’s security layer rather than replacing it. Sharding enables transaction finality in 2–3 seconds, supporting high scalability. Developers can deploy applications by only changing the RPC endpoint, though the long-term security implications are being closely monitored.

Bitfinity is fully Ethereum-compatible, allowing developers to work with Solidity without rewriting code. Users benefit from fast, low-cost transactions.

Built on the Internet Computer, the platform provides high throughput and scalability. Its core SputnikVM, full toolchain support, gasless meta-transactions, and native Bitcoin integration make it one of the most advanced EVMs available.

Transaction fees are paid in BITFINITY (BTF), which is used as the base token in Solidity contracts.

The Neuro Bridge enables trustless, decentralized asset transfers without compromising security.

Governance

Bitfinity DAO manages the network’s decentralized governance. BFT tokens are used for voting on protocol decisions. The council oversees high-level decisions, with investors and ecosystem partners participating in governance.

Advanced Technical Features

Bitfinity increases cross-chain speeds (Bitcoin Bitfinity Ethereum/ICP) through asynchronous tokens and parallel transaction processing. On-chain and off-chain components are separated to optimize data management. Bitcoin’s security is preserved while achieving Ethereum-like speed; for example, BTC or Runes transactions are much faster and cheaper than on Ethereum.

Milestones

Solv Protocol has introduced SolvBTC.AVAX, a yield-bearing Bitcoin token built on the Avalanche blockchain. Unlike traditional crypto yield products, this token is backed by real-world assets (RWAs) such as U.S. Treasurys and private credit via partnerships with institutions like BlackRock and Hamilton Lane.

Developed through a seven-partner collaboration — including Elixir, Euler, Re7 Labs, LFJ, Balancer, and Avalanche — the token uses a multi-protocol strategy. Elixir’s deUSD synthetic dollar and lending mechanisms on Euler expand the exposure to RWAs.

The yield from SolvBTC.AVAX is paid directly in BTC, giving investors a familiar asset class with more predictable returns. Elixir’s deUSD, with a market cap exceeding $220 million, underpins the structure’s stability.

Solv currently holds over $2.3 billion in total value locked (TVL) and operates as a cross-chain staking platform focused on Bitcoin-centric yield strategies.

Institutions Fuel Demand for Bitcoin Yield

Institutional interest in Bitcoin yield products is on the rise. Coinbase recently launched its own Bitcoin Yield Fund, targeting 4% to 8% annual returns. Other players like MicroStrategy are tracking BTC Yield as a metric, showing performance rates of over 15% year-to-date.

With RWA-backed yield models like SolvBTC.AVAX entering the market, Bitcoin is evolving from a store of value to a yield-generating financial tool.

Bitcoin has long been viewed merely as a store of value or digital gold. However, with the advent of next-generation Layer-2 solutions, this perception is shifting. One of the pioneers of this transformation is undoubtedly Bsquared Network.

Bsquared Network is the first zero-knowledge proof (zk-proof)-based validity rollup built on the Bitcoin network. Its goal is not only to enhance transaction speed, but also to ensure privacy, scalability, and low transaction costs. Especially with Taproot, using “commitment” and “challenge-response” mechanisms, transactions become more secure and private.

This structure is more than just a technical upgrade; it represents a turning point enabling Bitcoin to go beyond being merely a payment tool. Bsquared Network aims to bring smart contracts, DeFi, NFTs, and more into the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Ethereum Compatibility: EVM Comfort for Developers

In the crypto world, the majority of developers are accustomed to working with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). For this reason, Bsquared Network has been designed to be fully EVM-compatible. This means developers can easily port their existing DApps to the Bitcoin network or build new applications from scratch.

Moreover, it supports both Bitcoin and Ethereum-style addresses, significantly enhancing the user experience. This fusion enables a multi-chain world to seamlessly integrate with Bitcoin.

B² Buzz and B² Hive: Innovative Earning Models

When it comes to user incentives, Bsquared Network stands out. B² Buzz combines traditional staking and mining by introducing a virtual mining machine concept. Participants can deposit BTC, ETH, USDC, and other assets to collect parts of these machines and earn in-ecosystem rewards.

B² Hive introduces a mechanism for staking Bitcoin. Users can stake BTC to contribute to network security and in return earn B2 token rewards. Additionally, through integration with the Babylon security protocol, a dual-layer security model is implemented. Staked BTC is used both in validation processes and in securing the broader network.

Tokenomics and Investor Backing

According to blockchain startup Babylon, as part of its staggered rollout, the forthcoming launch of its self-custodial bitcoin staking mainnet is slated to go live in two days.

The economic features of bitcoin will be used in this launch to improve the security systems of proof-of-stance blockchains. Users will be able to stake their bitcoin using a specifically created smart contract. Under a self-custodian model—where users have control over their assets without middlemen—this method seeks to leverage bitcoin’s economic security to reinforce different decentralized networks. This covers systems including data availability solutions, Layer 2s, sovereign PoS chains, and oracles.

Later on, Babylon’s BTC timestamping system will allow any data delivered to the platform to be timestamped using Bitcoin’s blockchain. Its documentation claims that a main use of this protocol is timestamping PoS blockchains, hence improving their security by preventing long-range assaults.

Bitcoin holders will start the staking process by submitting Bitcoin staking transactions to the Bitcoin blockchain during the first phase, as Babylon pointed out in a blog post. Babylon raised $70 million in a new investment round headed by the venture company Paradigm in May. In December 2023, Polychain Capital and Hack VC co-led their $18 million Series A investment round.

While the specific amount remains undisclosed, Babylon co-founder David Tse revealed the investment structure mirrors their previous funding rounds – a combination of equity and token warrant options. In December 2023, Babylon secured $18 million in Series A funding, following an $8.8 million seed round in 2022.

Babylon’s testnet launch is imminent, scheduled for this week, according to Tse. But what exactly is Babylon?

What is Babylon?

At its core, Babylon is a Bitcoin staking protocol. It empowers Bitcoin holders to stake their holdings on proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchains, unlocking the potential to earn rewards. This essentially transforms Bitcoin into a staking asset for PoS networks, leveraging its robust security to bolster the overall security of these chains.

Currently, PoS networks rely on their native tokens for security, which can be expensive, particularly for nascent chains often resorting to hefty staking rewards to attract capital. The Cosmos Hub ecosystem, where each application has its own blockchain, exemplifies this challenge. Babylon is actively working on integrating with the Cosmos Hub ecosystem, as previously reported by The Block.

Babylon’s Roadmap

The first PoS chain secured by the Babylon protocol will be its own chain, built using the Cosmos SDK. Subsequently, Babylon will establish a marketplace allowing BTC holders to seamlessly restake their holdings to other PoS networks through their platform.

Bolstered by Binance Labs’ investment, Babylon plans to expand its development team and target a launch of their mainnet phase one by year-end, as per Tse.
