This transfer is the first significant high-volume movement recorded for SpaceX since transactions made in 2021. The transaction comes amid a renewed rise in Bitcoin prices. 

However, the recipient wallet address does not yet have a known institutional identity. The address starting with bc1q8ka…vwg7u leaves the strategy behind the transaction unclear. 

Similarities with Past Bitcoin Transactions 

In 2021, SpaceX transferred a total of 4.7K BTC to various wallets via Coinbase Prime. These moves had offered key insights into the company’s crypto strategy. Most of those transfers at that time were directed to the Coinbase exchange. 

On the other hand, a notable detail after this new transfer is the transaction route. The transferred BTC was sent not to known exchange wallets but to a “passive” address with no prior transaction history. This suggests the funds might have been moved for restructuring or custody purposes rather than for sale. 

According to Arkham Intelligence reports, SpaceX currently holds approximately 8,285 BTC. This gives the company a digital asset portfolio worth about $560 million. Arkham Intelligence identified these wallets as belonging to SpaceX through previous transactions, Coinbase Prime links, and on-chain patterns. 

Meanwhile, the same reports show Tesla still holds 11,509 BTC. Combined, the two companies hold a total of 19,794 BTC. 

Elon Musk’s Crypto Asset Strategy Back in Focus 

The timing of the transfer has not gone unnoticed by market observers. Moreover, the large amount signals confidence in potential BTC movements between institutions. High-volume transactions by corporate firms indicate renewed interest in the market and boost confidence in the sector. SpaceX’s transfer has brought Elon Musk’s crypto asset strategy back into the spotlight. 

Especially as Fed and SEC’s statements on crypto regulations remain topical, such transactions gain even more significance.

The Bybit hack was executed by Lazarus, a North Korea-linked cybercrime group. The FBI labeled the incident as the “TraderTraitor” operation. The stolen amount surpassed all North Korea-related cyber thefts in 2024. 

Lazarus’s “Flood the Zone” Tactic Exposed 

After the attack, Lazarus rapidly laundered the stolen funds through multidirectional, high-frequency transactions. This method, called “flood the zone” by TRM Labs, aims to overwhelm exchange compliance teams and blockchain analytics firms. 

TRM Labs stated, “This tactic involves intense, simultaneous transfers designed to drown regulators and analysts. The Bybit hack clearly showed an increased use of this method.” This reveals significant security gaps in the digital asset ecosystem. 

Meanwhile, Chainalysis experts traced suspicious wallets linked to a local crypto exchange in Greece. As a result, the assets held by the exchange were frozen. This step underlines the critical role of international cooperation in fighting crypto crimes. 

A New Chapter in Global Crypto Regulation 

Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis commented on the case: “Thanks to blockchain’s traceability, international cooperation can stop financial crimes.” 

This operation may inspire similar actions in countries like South Korea and the U.S. Centralized exchanges such as Bybit must strengthen security after such attacks. The rise in investments across DeFi and CeFi platforms makes this increasingly important. According to DeFiLlama, the total value locked (TVL) reached $121 billion in July 2025. 

This development highlights cybersecurity as a top priority in crypto markets. Moreover, blockchain’s transparency enables more effective combat against cybercrime.

New Developments in the Bybit Hack

According to blockchain analytics firm Elliptic, the Lazarus Group, a North Korean hacking collective, has used 11,084 cryptocurrency wallets to launder stolen funds. The hackers are suspected of stealing funds from Bybit’s cold wallet. On February 25, Bybit CEO Ben Zhou announced a “war” against Lazarus Group.

To recover the stolen funds, Bybit has taken several steps, including the launch of a new blacklist wallet API and a reward system to track wallets and initiate legal action. Elliptic also released a public list of wallet addresses linked to North Korean hackers, helping the community avoid exposure to these addresses.

Elliptic and Bybit’s Collaboration

According to Elliptic’s data, all 11,084 wallets are associated with the Bybit hack. Data on these wallets became accessible within just 30 minutes, allowing Bybit users to continue trading without risking exposure to the stolen funds.

Bybit continues to work with blockchain security firm ZeroShadow to trace the stolen funds. ZeroShadow is tasked with identifying and freezing stolen assets from cold wallets.

Bybit Hack and Fund Transfers

According to blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis, the Bybit hack began with a phishing attack and later intercepted a routine transfer from Bybit‘s Ethereum cold wallet to a hot wallet. Stolen ETH was converted into Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and moved across different networks.

Despite the massive breach, Bybit kept withdrawals open to maintain platform stability and secured liquidity through external loans. On February 25, Bybit started repaying the stolen funds, transferring 40,000 ETH back to Bidget.
