Lomond School Principal Claire Chisholm confirmed the partnership, expressing how thrilled she was to be working with Dr. Ammous and highlighting the positivity of the Bitcoin community.

This makes Lomond the first school in the United Kingdom to integrate Bitcoin both as a means of payment and a subject of academic instruction.

Published in 2018, “The Bitcoin Standard” explores the economic philosophy of Bitcoin and its contrast with fiat currencies. It has sold over one million copies and been translated into 38 languages.

Bitcoin Education on the Rise Globally

Across the world, educational institutions are increasingly adopting Bitcoin, both as an investment and an academic field.

In 2013, the University of Nicosia in Cyprus launched the world’s first Master’s program in Digital Currency. The following year, NYU Stern School of Business introduced a course on the Law and Business of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies. Stanford University followed suit in 2015 with its “Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies” course focusing on the technology and economics behind BTC.

In February 2025, the University of Austin launched a $5 million Bitcoin investment fund as part of a broader $200 million endowment. Just months earlier, Emory University had accumulated over $15 million in BTC via Grayscale’s spot Bitcoin ETF.
