Partnerships and Collaborators

How It Works

Tempo is an EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain based on Reth, an Ethereum execution layer built in Rust. Its payment-focused architecture provides:

Dedicated Payment Lane: Transactions are processed in a separate block space (isolated from DeFi or NFTs) for lower costs.

Stablecoin Support: Supports all major stablecoins (including USDB) for flexible, low-fee settlements.

High Performance: 100,000+ TPS with sub-second finality for real-time payments.

Compliance & Privacy: Features block/allow lists, ISO 20022-compliant memo fields, and privacy mechanisms.

Batch Transfers: Enables multiple transactions at once with native account abstraction.

As a result, payments are processed via stablecoins for global scalability, enabling cross-border transfers and microtransactions.

Following the approval of the GENIUS Act by the U.S. Congress, the conversation around stablecoins shifted significantly. In a timely move, Mastercard openly declared support for these digital assets. However, the company made it clear: this support does not extend to decentralized monetary systems.

Jesse McWaters, Mastercard’s Executive Vice President, emphasized the law’s importance. “Stablecoins are at a turning point,” he said. “The GENIUS Act signals a new era of regulatory clarity and trust in digital assets.”

Mastercard Seeks to Embed Stablecoins in Trusted Systems

McWaters highlighted how stablecoins are already being used in real-world cross-border transactions. From international B2B payments to remittances, they offer a faster and cheaper alternative to traditional methods.

Still, Mastercard believes stablecoins lack one crucial element: a trusted intermediary. “To move from niche to mainstream, stablecoins need more than speed and programmability,” McWaters stated. “They must be embedded in systems people trust—systems that protect users, resolve disputes, and operate seamlessly across borders and platforms. That’s where Mastercard comes in.”

The company has already launched initiatives like the Mastercard Multi-Token Network and Mastercard Crypto Credential. These aim to bring compliance and user protection into stablecoin ecosystems.

A Vision Grounded in Centralized Infrastructure

Mastercard’s strategy favors regulated, interoperable payment networks over peer-to-peer, trustless systems. The company continues to apply its proven model—one that has supported credit card transactions for decades—to digital assets.

Mastercard describes itself as “one of the most trusted payment networks in the world” and aims to play a similar role in stablecoin infrastructure. That said, the company still faces criticism from vendors and users regarding transaction fees and alleged unfair practices in its traditional business model.

The GENIUS Act has removed major regulatory barriers, opening the door for stablecoin adoption. Mastercard supports this evolution—but only under clear rules. The company envisions a future where stablecoins operate within trusted, centralized financial frameworks, not as unregulated or decentralized currencies.

Webus’s XRP Move: A New Era in Cross-Border Payments

Webus International announced plans to raise up to $300 million to build a Ripple reserve. This funding will come from non-equity sources such as bank loans, shareholder guarantees, and existing cash reserves. The company intends to integrate the XRP Ledger into its payment systems to achieve speed and cost advantages in international payments.

CEO Nan Zheng stated that these strategic developments have the potential to create strong synergy between domestic and international operations. Zheng emphasized that XRP integration could revolutionize cross-border payments for partners and travelers worldwide.

Current Status of XRP Market

Despite Webus’s announcement, Ripple’s price did not show a significant increase. Over the last 24 hours, its price dropped by 2.71% to $2.13. Weekly performance also declined by approximately 9.00%.

Former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, delivered a speech at the Intercontinental Hotel in Hua Hin, urging the Thai government to study cryptocurrencies and continue sandbox experiments to remain relevant on the global stage.

Shinawatra did not suggest that Thailand should buy cryptocurrencies but emphasized the importance of understanding digital assets and the global digitalization trends. He stated, “There are already many cryptocurrencies. Some people say that in the future, we will have more currencies than countries. Thai people must think and understand this.”

He also highlighted that the incoming Trump administration’s trade tariffs and the idea of paying off the national debt with Bitcoin make understanding the digital economy even more critical.

Thailand’s Digital Economy Initiatives

August 2024: The Thailand Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced a regulatory sandbox for crypto service providers, creating a testing environment for experimental financial technologies.

July 2024: The Pheu Thai Party distributed digital cash worth 10,000 baht (approximately $280) to 45 million residents as an economic stimulus.

September 2024: Kasikornbank, Thailand’s second-largest bank, launched the country’s first licensed crypto custody service for digital asset businesses.

October 2024: The Thailand SEC proposed allowing investment funds to access crypto investments.

October 2024: The Bank of Thailand partnered with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) to test tokenized cross-border payments, as part of HKMA’s Project Ensemble.

These developments reflect Thailand’s proactive efforts in crypto regulations and the digital economy, showcasing its dedication to innovation and adaptation in the global financial landscape.

Russia has officially commenced cross-border payments through the digital payment platform named Exved. Aimed at facilitating local entities’ international agreements with cryptocurrencies, this platform was announced to have begun operations on December 7th.

Exved aims to simplify the “currency operations and foreign economic activity” processes for Russian importers and exporters by offering business-to-business (B2B) solutions. The platform enables cross-border transactions using offshore rubles, US dollars, and Tether stablecoin.

Significant industry partners like InDeFi Bank, which launched the decentralized crypto ruble project last year, participated in the launch of Exved. Sergey Mendeleev, co-founder and CEO of InDeFi Smart Bank, stated that the Central Bank and the Federal Financial Monitoring Service of the Russian Federation have tested and approved the mechanics of Exved.

Mendeleev stated, “The goal of the project is to offer people a payment opportunity of 2-3% instead of 6-7% and to provide specific mechanisms to implement payment requests.”

Russia’s central bank and Ministry of Finance had reached an agreement in September 2022 allowing cross-border settlements in cryptocurrencies. This development emphasizes Russia’s progress in the digital economy and cryptocurrencies.
