A remarkable development has taken place in the crypto market. Large investors, known as “whales,” shifted their profits from Bitcoin’s recent surge into Ethereum (ETH). In recent days, a total of $456 million worth of ETH purchases has been recorded, turning investors’ attention toward a potential altcoin season in 2025.

Capital Rotation from Bitcoin to Ethereum

According to data shared by blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, nine major whale addresses purchased a total of $456 million worth of Ethereum through BitGo and Galaxy Digital. This move indicates that the long-anticipated “natural rotation” process in the market is accelerating.

Source | Arkham

Nicolai Sondergaard, research analyst at crypto intelligence platform Nansen, stated that this movement is the result of investors reallocating their profits from Bitcoin’s surge into other assets. Sondergaard added, “Ethereum, in particular, is benefiting the most from this flow due to institutional interest and the expansion of its ecosystem.”

Crypto analyst Willy Woo also highlighted the recent capital inflows into ETH. Woo emphasized that Ethereum is now seeing an average daily inflow of $900 million, bringing it close to Bitcoin’s capital inflows. These comments followed last week’s move by a Bitcoin whale with a fortune of $11 billion, who sold $2.59 billion worth of BTC and subsequently bought $2.2 billion worth of spot Ethereum. The same investor also opened a $577 million long ETH position on the decentralized exchange Hyperliquid.

The US Federal Reserve’s potential decision to completely delay rate cuts in 2025 could spark a widespread market sell-off. Network economist Timothy Peterson suggests that this scenario might push Bitcoin prices down to the $70,000 range.

Fed’s Move Could Ignite the Bear Market!

On March 8, Timothy Peterson posted on X, saying, “It only needs one trigger. I think that trigger may be as simple as the Fed not cutting rates at all this year.” Just a day earlier, Jerome Powell had stated that there’s no rush to lower interest rates.

Speaking in New York, Powell remarked, “We do not need to be in a hurry and are well-positioned to wait for greater clarity.” These statements have increased uncertainty in the markets.

Could Bitcoin Drop to $57,000?

Peterson, using his Nasdaq decline model, estimated that if a bear market begins, Nasdaq could drop by 17%. Adapting this to Bitcoin, he predicted a 33% decrease, potentially bringing BTC down to $57,000.

However, Peterson noted that such a drop is unlikely. “Traders and opportunists hover over Bitcoin like vultures,” he explained, adding that if Bitcoin approaches $57,000, buyers will likely step in before it gets that low. He expects Bitcoin to bottom closer to the $70,000 range.

You Might Be Interested In: Elon Musk Talks About the Name of a New Memecoin!

Peterson recalled how, in 2022, many expected Bitcoin to bottom at $12,000, but it only dropped to $16,000. “The same could happen here. If the bottom is expected at $57,000, a 25% higher level would be around $71,000,” he added.

Bitcoin was trading near $71,000 on November 6, after Donald Trump won the US election. It then rallied for a month, surpassing $100,000 by December 5.

In January 2025, Arthur Hayes forecasted a correction in BTC prices to the $70,000–$75,000 range. He also predicted a rally to $250,000 by the end of the year. Blockware Solutions offered a more conservative bear case, projecting Bitcoin could reach $150,000 in 2025 if the Fed reverses its stance on interest rate cuts.

The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld its decision made in August in the infamous Silk Road case, ruling that assets be put under federal control.

You might like: Near Protocol Chart Analysis and Price Analysis!

This decision reinforced a previous ruling in which the government claimed rights over digital assets associated with Silk Road’s illegal activities. The seized assets include cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Gold (BTG), Bitcoin SV (BSV), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

The U.S. court made a decision in August of 2020 regarding assets exceeding the value of the Bitcoin seized in connection with the illegal activities of the Silk Road, following the U.S Department of Justice’s asset seizure decision. This decision was made after an individual known as “Person X” hacked into the Silk Road and took control.

Earlier reports stated that the Silk Road’s hacker was James Zhong and that Zhong was sentenced to a year in prison in April.

On July 2nd, a cryptocurrency wallet associated with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) moved approximately 9,825.25 Bitcoins worth about $299 million linked to the Silk Road and carried out various transactions. Crypto analysts are closely monitoring these fund movements because they are evaluating the effects of a large sale that can be made by the U.S. government on Bitcoin prices.

Ross Ulbricht, founder and manager of the illicit marketplace infamous for drug and weapon sales between 2011-2013, was sentenced to life in prison in the Silk Road case. In 2022, Ulbricht decided to use stolen Bitcoins worth $3 billion to pay his debt to the U.S. government and to forfeit his claim to 69,470 Bitcoins.
