Cryptocurrencies Now Play a Key Role in the Loan Process 

FHFA Chairman Bill Pulte called this development “a historic day for Bitcoin and the mortgage industries.” Pulte thanked President Trump, crediting him for making America the crypto capital. FHFA only considers digital assets held on regulated exchanges with verifiable ownership documentation.

Previously, crypto investors had to convert their assets into dollars before applying for a loan. This new regulation allows investors to apply for mortgage loans without liquidating their crypto holdings. The move boosts crypto adoption for both individual and institutional players. FHFA can now directly measure the applicant’s financial strength through properly documented digital assets. The decision does not specify which cryptocurrencies are accepted but requires assets to be held on legally compliant, U.S.-regulated centralized exchanges.

FHFA Reshapes the Mortgage Evaluation Process 

FHFA has restructured the mortgage loan evaluation process to include cryptocurrencies via Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The agencies will soon publish guidelines on how to assess crypto assets. Only cryptocurrencies held on U.S.-regulated and supervised exchanges will be considered. 

This regulation marks a historic step toward integrating crypto assets into the U.S. financial system. Investors can now meet cash needs without liquidating portfolios. This move brings crypto into the fold of traditional finance.
