The DEGEN Foundation is actively considering a phased token burn plan in response to growing concerns from the community regarding its large token holdings. With 32.5% of the total DEGEN supply under the Foundation’s control, discussions have emerged around how to manage this supply without negatively impacting long-term holders or deterring new participants.

Why Is a Token Burn on the Table?

The substantial reserve held by the Foundation has sparked debate over potential inflation and dilution risks. Many altcoin investors worry that future utility of these tokens could disrupt market stability. Rather than deploying all reserves into the ecosystem, the Foundation appears to be leaning toward a more sustainable, long-term economic model.

A Gradual Burning Mechanism

The proposed strategy includes burning a portion of the Foundation’s holdings over time, likely on a monthly basis. This phased approach would aim to reduce the circulating supply gradually, supporting both market health and long-term investor incentives. While not all tokens will be burned, a meaningful reduction could significantly shift the project’s tokenomics.

Community Feedback Will Shape the Outcome

In line with the project’s decentralized ethos, the Foundation is prioritizing community input before implementing any burn mechanisms. Rather than enforcing a top-down decision, the goal is to align with the collective vision of DEGEN’s most loyal supporters—especially those with long exposure to the token.

Potential Impact on Future Distribution Plans

A large-scale burn could eliminate the possibility of future airdrop events or high-volume token distributions. This, in turn, may recalibrate how the broader market perceives DEGEN’s utility and long-term role within the altcoin ecosystem.

Coinbase, one of the largest exchanges in the cryptocurrency sector, has added two new tokens to its listing roadmap on the platform: IO and DEGEN. This step is considered as part of the exchange’s strategy to offer a wider range to the crypto ecosystem.

Coinbase Lists, What is IO Token?

IO is known as a token based on infrastructure and software development projects related to blockchain technology. It draws attention especially with its usage opportunities in the field of decentralized finance (DeFi). The listing of IO on Coinbase could help this token reach a wider user base and increase its liquidity.

Coinbase Lists, What is DEGEN Token?

DEGEN is a token inspired by the term “degen”, which refers to more risky and speculative crypto investment. This token is generally used in community-oriented projects and has become popular among risk-loving investors. Coinbase’s addition of the DEGEN token to its listing roadmap is considered part of a strategy to appeal to higher-risk crypto investors.

Coinbase’s Expansion Strategy

Coinbase is trying to diversify its platform by regularly adding new tokens to its listing roadmap. This strategy can be seen as a step towards attracting both large investors and crypto users interested in small-scale projects. The listing of tokens such as IO and DEGEN on the platform shows that the exchange intends to offer its users a wider range of investments.

Might interest you: What is BabyDoge?

These developments stand out as part of Coinbase’s efforts to expand its user base and increase its competitiveness in the market. When exactly IO and DEGEN will be listed and what kind of impact they will have on the markets is eagerly awaited by investors.

Leading bitcoin exchange OKX has revealed the listing of two fresh cryptocurrencies, DEGEN and SLERF. This action offers fresh chances for investors and helps to diversify the offers on the site.

Newly Listed Altcoins

The newly listed altcoins on OKX are DEGEN and SLERF, each bringing unique value propositions to the market.

DEGEN: DEGEN is a reward token for Farcaster users, employing a unique tip subsidy mechanism to incentivize the community. It supports the Degen chain, one of the pioneering Layer 3 solutions launched on Base, providing a robust platform for building and utilizing Degen applications.

SLERF: SLERF is a community-driven meme token based on the theme of unity. Featuring a sloth-based meme, SLERF embodies the power of community solidarity and perseverance.

Deposit and Trading Timelines

OKX has provided specific timelines for deposits and trading for DEGEN and SLERF:

Deposit Time for DEGEN and SLERF: July 23, 2024, at 14:00 (UTC+8)

Both altcoins moved greatly in price following the announcement and later OKX listing. SLERF witnessed a 37% rise; DEGEN climbed by 16%. These encouraging market responses highlight investor belief in the promise of these fresh listings.

Investor Advisory

Along with the announcement of the IPO, OKX has warned investors about the intrinsic hazards connected to digital assets. The discussion focused on digital assets as creative investment products with substantial investment risk and notable price swings. According to OKX, investors should logically assess their investment capacity, completely grasp digital assets, and make wise investment judgments.

Conclusion

The DEGEN and SLERF listing by OKX emphasizes the exchange’s dedication to growing its varied portfolio of assets in order to meet the changing needs of its worldwide customer base. Investors are advised to keep updated on the possible hazards connected with digital asset investments and to pay attention to deposit and trading times.

The blockchain failed to validate a transaction or produce a new block for more than 53 hours; the situation was alarming for its users and stakeholders.

Network Freeze Details

The last block was produced at 8:15 p.m. UTC on May 12, as per the Degen Chain block explorer. The network’s downtime was confirmed by Degen Chain on May 14 through a post on X (formerly Twitter) about the efforts made with its development partner, Conduit, to fix the issue.

The conduit analyzed the problem and discovered that it was due to a “custom config change” that affected both Degen Chain and the gaming network Apex. This transformation caused a stop in block production, and therefore nodes were forced to resync from the genesis block.

Restoration Efforts Underway

The Conservative Conduit said that they are cooperating with both the Degen Chain and the Offchain Labs in order to recover the service. “We’re working with both teams and Offchain Labs to restore service and minimize impact on users,” Conduit stated on X. The network is expected to resume functionality after the resynchronization, which is projected to be completed by 1:00 pm UTC on May 15 (6:00 am PST on May 15). This is the time for modern globalization to happen.

Impact on Applications and Token Value

DEGEN Chain, which was created for its own native memecoin DEGEN, has a wide range of decentralized applications, among which are DegenSwap, Mint Club, and Relay Bridge. At the moment, these applications are not functional because of the downtime of the blockchain. The outage has also affected the value of the DEGEN token, which is plunging to 24% from its seven-day high of $0.2.

Industry Reactions

The issue has led to debates about the factualness of layer 3 blockchains. Poly Top CEO Marc Boiron recently said that layer 3s “are just like a shark that eats another shark’s food, the Ethereum and the other layer 2s on which the layer 3s are built.” On the other hand, people like Arbitrum Foundation researcher Patrick McCorry think that layer 3 networks make transactions cheaper on layer 2 networks.

The crypto community is still waiting for the solution to this problem, and the incident goes to prove the challenges and complexities of the development and maintenance of advanced blockchain technologies.

The Layer 3 (L3) network Degen has sent shockwaves through the crypto community after halting block production for the past 12 hours. Built on the Base network, Degen’s blockchain has failed to generate any new blocks since yesterday, May 12th, at 11:30 PM UTC, raising concerns among investors.

The lack of official communication from the Degen team has further fueled anxiety, leaving users in the dark about the cause of the disruption and the potential timeframe for a resolution. This incident has had a direct impact on the network’s native token, DEGEN, which has experienced a significant drop of over 12% in the face of this uncertainty.

Despite the growing panic, it’s important to note that similar issues have occurred in the past with other networks, such as Solana (SOL). In these cases, the underlying problems were eventually addressed, and the networks resumed normal operations.

According to CoinGecko data, DEGEN has lost 12.8% of its value since the outage began and is currently trading at $0.0183.

Degen Chain, the newest member of the Ethereum family, has turned out to be a great discovery in terms of transaction speed; it beats even renowned platforms, albeit its beginnings as a meme coin were somehow doubtful. The Degen Chain community is by far one of the most active one over the entire ethereum ecosystem; this is evident by today’s leading transaction per second (TPS) count, according to data from L2Beat, which is twice as large as the rinkeby recorded today. The TPS count reached the sky, adding another 62% to the network’s current capacity, amounting to 35.7 TPS. The primary blockchain, namely, Base, fell silent at merely 29.7 TPS, overshadowed by its incumbent.

Arbiterrum, Ethereum, and zkSync fifth among the hierarchies of these decentralized networks followed. Performing some arithmetic, Degen Chain was able to crunch a total figure of 3.08 million transactions through the day, efficiently seeing this through by using its phenomenal transaction per second rate.

On the other hand, the incredible transaction speed that is apparently the Degen Chain’s main strength does not necessarily involve much trading volume, which contradicts that. The network had $0.8 million in trading volume for the same period, and it was ranked 35th out of 44 blockchains with coinside tracking networks in general. The gap evens wide when we look at the mean value per transaction of $0.27, which is short against Ethereum’s $1,867 and Bitcore’s $170.

In the criticism, they say that the undue materialization of the TPS (transaction processing speed) as a single metric for scalability is unfair to other factors such as transaction computational complexity. One of the critics of this view, Steven Goldspit, a well-known authority on blockchain, utters that a failure to differentiate among tokens is similar to counting bills without establishing their denominations.

The history of the Degen Chain from a memetic token into a sufficiently qualified layer 3 network is a clear-cut example of the many advantages of cryptos to accumulate social capital. Thomas Tang, who is one of the key people in Ryze Labs, reveals how fun Farcaster’s tipping scheme is, which becomes the driver of its growth, and eventually it ends up creating a next-generation layer-3 infrastructure.

However, these results came after a long struggle, since the platform had a modest start. The $4.1 million in total value locked was one of the reasons behind the success of Degen Chain, as it had its native token, DEGEN, with a market capitalization of $326 million. Located in the Layer 3 ultra-low-cost blockchain specification application, Degen Chain leans on the strengths of ArbitrumOrbit and uses the base solicitation plane to make its place in the ever-growing Ethereum company.
