According to recent findings from on-chain data tracking platforms, BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has transferred a significant amount of Ethereum (ETH) to its institutional partner, Coinbase Prime, in connection with its iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) operations.

This large movement is the latest example of BlackRock’s intense and ongoing institutional activity in the digital asset market.

Technical Details of the Transfer

Amount Transferred: 24,791 ETH

Approximate Value: $78.3 million (Based on the market price at the time of the transaction)

Recipient Platform: Coinbase Prime (Institutional Custody and Trading Arm)

Sender Wallet: Wallets labeled as belonging to BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA).

Institutional Transfer Analysis: Selling Pressure or Liquidity Management?

While large transfers often trigger panic in the crypto market, this move by BlackRock is highly likely related to routine ETF liquidity and operational management.

Response to Redemption: BlackRock’s spot ETFs (Bitcoin and Ethereum) trade like stocks. When investors redeem their shares, BlackRock is required to sell or reallocate the corresponding crypto assets held by the fund. This ETH is sent to Coinbase Prime, which provides institutional-grade trading and settlement services, for this purpose. While this situation has the potential to create selling pressure in the market, it is not a direct guarantee of a sales order.

Operational Necessity: Coinbase Prime serves as the primary custodian and broker for giants like BlackRock’s ETFs. All major asset movements must take place through this institutional platform. This is a standard procedure in BlackRock’s process of managing billions of dollars in ETH assets.

ETHA’s Market Impact and Future Speculations

Following the success of its Bitcoin ETF (IBIT), BlackRock launched ETHA, which quickly reached billions of dollars in Assets Under Management (AUM), becoming one of the largest institutional players in the Ethereum market. The period in which the transfer occurred coincides with a sensitive time when the price of ETH is trying to hold a specific support level, making this movement closely monitored.

Additionally, the possibility of BlackRock integrating Ethereum Staking into the ETHA structure is a constantly discussed topic in the market. Such large transfers could also indicate operational preparations for this potential yield-enhancing feature in the future.

In summary: This $78.3 million transfer reflects the routine operations within BlackRock’s massive ETF fund; however, due to its size, it is critical data that investors should follow to understand short-term market liquidity.

The Balancer hack entered a new phase as the attacker began to liquidate stolen tokens shortly after the protocol confirmed the recovery of $4.1 million. Fresh movements across multiple addresses indicate preparation for additional selling, and on-chain analysts continue to track the rapid flow of funds.

Arkham Intelligence reported that the exploiter transferred 6,999 ETH to a newly created wallet. The movement followed an earlier one-ETH test transaction the attacker used to verify routing paths, a method frequently seen in DeFi exploit behavior. These transfers suggest a coordinated attempt to secure exit liquidity before further recovery efforts restrict access.

Recovery Efforts Reveal Hidden Scaling Vulnerability

Balancer stated that the recovered amount was tied to a vulnerability inside its internal scaling logic. The issue originated from a function responsible for adjusting token values during pool calculations. The attacker identified small rounding discrepancies and repeated swap operations to generate precise micro-profits. This approach differed from earlier Balancer incidents and demonstrated how new attack vectors continue to emerge in decentralized finance.

StakeWise also recovered a major portion of the assets drained during the event. The project retrieved 5,041 osETH through a smart contract call, reducing the overall stolen amount from $117 million to $98 million. The improvement helped several platforms restore halted services. Stader Polygon resumed MaticX unstaking after temporarily suspending withdrawals to prevent liquidity access during the critical stage of the investigation.

Major Crypto Security Breaches Continue Through 2025

The Balancer exploit adds to a series of high-impact attacks that shaped the crypto landscape in 2025. Earlier in the year, Cetus Protocol lost $260 million after a coordinated exploit. Investigators traced 12.9 million SUI to an attacker-linked wallet before the funds were moved through USDC and converted into ETH. Bybit also faced a severe security breach involving more than $1.4 billion in digital assets, marked by unusual ETH withdrawals from addresses tied to exchange inflows. Centralized platform BigONE reported a $27 million loss after attackers accessed its hot wallet, draining BTC, ETH, SOL, SHIB and USDT.

These incidents illustrate a broader trend of exploiters combining multi-chain routing, stablecoin swaps and rapid wallet transitions to obscure their tracks. Analysts emphasize that these patterns now form a consistent framework across most high-value attacks.

On-Chain Signals and Market Impact as the Investigation Continues

The attacker’s movements have intensified market attention as observers monitor large-scale transfers and potential liquidation strategies. The ongoing activity increases concerns about short-term liquidity pressure, especially in ecosystems linked to Balancer’s pools. On-chain experts note that rising conversion frequency, new address creation and repeated routing tests often indicate imminent selling phases during post-exploit periods.

The Balancer hack continues to evolve as investigators analyze transaction patterns and track the remaining assets. Market participants remain alert, recognizing that the attacker’s next steps could influence sentiment, trading volume and liquidity in the coming days.

As volatility returns to the cryptocurrency markets, a noteworthy development has occurred on the Ethereum (ETH) front. Jeffrey Wilcke, one of Ethereum’s co-founders, has recently made a significant move. According to on-chain data, Wilcke transferred 105,736 ETH, worth approximately $262 million, to the Kraken exchange. This action has reignited concerns about potential selling pressure in the market.

All Eyes on the Massive Ethereum Transfer

Despite the broader bullish sentiment, ETH has been struggling to gain momentum. The limited interest in the altcoin market and past regular sales by the Ethereum Foundation have already made investors cautious.

Now, a similar move is coming from one of the original team members. Wilcke’s substantial ETH transfer is being interpreted by market participants as a potential sell-off. Although it’s unlikely that the entire amount will be liquidated at once, sending such a large amount to an exchange is widely viewed as a bearish signal.

What Does This Mean for Ethereum’s Price?

Large-scale transfers like this can directly impact liquidity and pricing, especially on the spot market. Analysts believe that a gradual sale of these ETH holdings could create medium-term downward pressure on Ethereum.

At the moment, Ethereum is at $2,471, showing a daily performance of -2.20%.

Still, whether this development alone will trigger a long-term downtrend remains uncertain. It must be considered alongside other factors such as the overall market direction and institutional investor sentiment.

Golem, a decentralized computing network, has addressed concerns about the transfer of 135,000 ETH (around $337 million) to centralized exchanges (CEXs) like Coinbase, Binance, and Bitfinex. The movement of such a large amount of Ethereum had sparked speculation within the community about a potential large-scale sell-off. However, Golem’s latest report, released on September 18, clarified that the transfers were part of a solo staking test aimed at ensuring operational security and minimizing external interference.

The report explains that the test was designed to prevent any disruptions to the staking process, creating a controlled environment by using CEXs to reduce the risk of interference from outside transactions. The movements, first noticed in July, initially caused alarm within the Golem community, as earlier transactions, including the deposit of 29,000 ETH to various CEXs, fueled concerns about the possibility of an ETH dump.

Frustration in the community increased due to Golem’s delayed communication, with many users on platforms like Discord accusing the team of being evasive. Golem’s lack of transparency and its decision to delay providing an explanation led to increased negative speculation and distrust.

While the September report reassured that the ETH transfers were part of a staking experiment and not intended for selling off assets, some community members felt that more transparent and timely communication could have prevented the controversy. One user on X noted that if Golem had provided honest communication from the beginning, much of the fear and speculation could have been avoided. Golem had promised to release the report in August but delayed its publication, further impacting the community’s trust.

The Golem team acknowledged the missteps in communication and reiterated that the staking test was essential to maintaining the network’s security and integrity. Despite the initial concerns, the report has helped clarify the purpose of the ETH transfers and reassured users that the funds were not being dumped.
