The social media landscape grapples with privacy breaches, censorship, and monopolies. Users lose control of their data, while developers await permissions. Farcaster tackles these issues head-on: a sufficiently decentralized social protocol. Founded in 2020 by Coinbase alumni, Farcaster creates an ecosystem where users own their data and audience, and developers build apps without approval. Running on Optimism (Ethereum Layer 2), the protocol leverages accounts, usernames, signers, messages, and rented storage to bring social interactions to blockchain. Apps like Warpcast deliver a Twitter-like experience—but censorship-resistant, interoperable, and user-focused.

In this article, we’ll explore Farcaster’s architecture, Frames feature, economic models, and team. Ready to dive into the blockchain revolution in social media?

What is Farcaster?

Farcaster is an open protocol for building decentralized social apps. Its core principle: “sufficient decentralization” ensures two people can always communicate, and developers access public data permissionlessly. Five key components:

Accounts: Represent users.

Usernames: Link to accounts.

Signers: Post messages on behalf of accounts.

Messages: Public updates (casts).

Storage: Rented to publish messages.

The protocol employs a hybrid architecture: identity data on-chain (Optimism), interactions off-chain. Smart contracts manage social dynamics; interoperability integrates with other blockchains. Farcaster serves as a foundation for dApps—Warpcast is the leading client (iOS/Android).

Farcaster excels in user autonomy. You own your data; switching apps preserves audience and content. Censorship resistance: no single entity dominates. Privacy: no central servers minimize leak risks. As of 2025, Frames enable on-chain/off-chain actions (NFT mints, games, shopping) directly in feeds—without third-party redirects.

Farcaster’s Origins: A Revolution from Coinbase Alumni

Farcaster was established in 2020 by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan. Drawing from Coinbase expertise, they identified social media’s central flaws: data monopolies, censorship, bot invasions. Solution: a blockchain-based, sufficiently decentralized protocol.

Built on Optimism for low fees and scalability. Early years focused on developers; Warpcast’s 2023 launch sparked user growth. In 2024, $180 million raised (led by a16z, Paradigm); Frames (January 2024) transformed the protocol—interactive mini-apps in feeds.

By 2025, bot prevention ($5 signup + storage fees) and Frames integration matured it. Crypto giants like Vitalik Buterin, Tim Beiko, and Jesse Pollak are active. Farcaster redefines social media—users control data, developers innovate freely.

How Farcaster Works: Technical Foundations

Farcaster uses hybrid design for efficiency and security:

On-Chain Identity: Accounts and usernames on Optimism—immutable, transparent.

Off-Chain Interactions: Casts and follows in storage—scalable.

Signers: EdDSA for secure authorization—no wallet drain risks.

Storage: $5/year per unit—5,000 casts, 2,500 reactions, 2,500 links/photos. Deters bots/spam.

Frames: Mini-apps in feeds—NFT mints, games, shopping. On-chain (Ethereum-based); off-chain expandable.

Using Warpcast:

Download iOS/Android app.

Register via phone, secure seed phrase.

Pay $5 annual fee.

Rent storage, post casts.

Engage via Frames.

No desktop support; mobile-centric. Seed phrase = account key—keep it safe.

Farcaster’s Features: User and Developer Friendly

Farcaster surpasses traditional social media:

User Autonomy: Own your data; seamless app switches.

Censorship Resistance: No single entity silences.

Interoperability: Accounts work across all Farcaster apps.

Privacy: Decentralized—no central server vulnerabilities.

Frames: In-feed on-chain/off-chain actions—NFTs, games, purchases.

Bot Prevention: $5 signup + post limits.

Warpcast: Post casts, follow, recast, like. Frames enable buying “Girl Scout Cookies,” playing “Nethria,” or gasless NFT mints.

Farcaster Products and Applications

Protocol Core Open-source; developers create dApps. Permissionless public data access.

Warpcast Top client (~50% signups). Twitter-style: casts, follows, recasts. Frames integrated.

Frames Launched January 2024. In-feed mini-apps:

Gasless NFT mints.

Games (Nethria).

Shopping (Girl Scout).

Galleries, newsletters.

EdDSA security—no hacks. Ethereum-focused; expansion ahead.

Storage System $5/unit (annual):

5,000 casts.

2,500 links/photos.

Prevents spam, ensures quality interactions.

Farcaster Economic Model: Create Value and Earn

Farcaster offers payment models for content. Creators monetize via Frames—NFT sales, subscriptions, in-game purchases.

Bot Prevention:

$5 signup fee.

Limited posts (storage units).

Maintains interaction quality; blocks bot floods.

Farcaster Frames: The Game-Changing Innovation

Frames are Farcaster’s standout. Launched January 26, 2024, they exploded user adoption.

How It Works:

Interactive card in casts.

Click: mint NFTs, play games, buy products—stay in feed.

On-chain (Ethereum): Secure transactions.

Off-chain: Fast experiences.

Popular Examples:

Girl Scout Cookies: One-click cookie orders.

Nethria: Text-based monster battles.

NFT Mint: Gasless drops.

Frames make social media interactive—Web3 in daily use.

Farcaster Investors: $180 Million Powerhouse

Farcaster secured $180 million. Key backers:

Tier 1: a16z crypto, Paradigm, Coinbase Ventures, Multicoin Capital, Balaji Srinivasan.

Tier 2: Variant, Ribbit Capital, USV, 1confirmation, Standard Crypto.

Tier 3: a_capital, Archetype, Volt Capital, Chapter One, Scalar, Haun Ventures, Canonical Crypto, First Round.

Farcaster Team

Farcaster was founded by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan. Leading product and engineering at Coinbase, the duo launched in 2020 with a vision for decentralized social media. Romero excels in user experience and growth strategies; Srinivasan pioneers technical architecture and scalability.

Together, they built the Optimism-based protocol from scratch—introducing bot prevention and Frames to evolve the ecosystem continually. Their expertise elevates Farcaster beyond a technical project into a social revolution reaching millions.

In the crypto world, token launches are often chaotic, unfair, and dominated by MEV bots. Creators put in the effort, but most of the profits go to bots. Tokenbot (CLANKER) solves this problem at its root: an infrastructure that builds token markets with audited smart contracts. CLANKER deploys ERC-20 tokens on multiple chains, starting with Base, and gives creators rewards based on trading volume. Anyone can create tokens via a bot on Farcaster, the clanker.world interface, or the developer SDK. Plus, the new v4.0.0 version adds MEV modules, redirecting bot profits from the launch moment back to the creator.

In this article, we’ll cover everything from CLANKER’s operating principles to its update history, token deployment methods to security features. Ready to dive into an ecosystem where token creation is democratized?

What is Tokenbot (CLANKER)?

Tokenbot (CLANKER) is a creator-focused, MEV-protected, permissionless token launch infrastructure. ERC-20 tokens with 100 billion supply are born in Uniswap v4 pools; customizable with extensions like vault, dev buy, airdrop. Accessible to everyone—from Farcaster bot to web interface, SDK to direct contract interaction.

CLANKER makes token launches fair, transparent, and profitable.

Active on Base, Arbitrum, Unichain, and Monad Testnet. Create tokens on clanker.world, try it on Farcaster with @clanker, or build your own interface with the SDK. The future is in the creators’ hands.

What Can You Do with CLANKER?

Users can use Clanker in these ways:

Tag the @clanker bot on Farcaster to create a token,

Create tokens from the clanker.world web interface,

Develop their own token creation experiences using the Clanker SDK,

Interact directly via API or core contracts.

Clanker’s standout feature is rewarding token creators based on trading volume. The more the created token trades, the more rewards the creator earns.

How Does CLANKER Work?

Clanker uses Uniswap v4 infrastructure to automatically create a liquidity pool for every new token. These pools optimize early trading values through MEV modules.

When a token is created, trading doesn’t start immediately; there’s a short “auction period” first. During this, value from MEV bots is redirected to the token creator. Normal trading begins after about 22 seconds.

Token deployment happens in these steps:

A new ERC-20 token is created with 100 billion supply.

Optionally, up to 30% of the supply can be locked in a “creator vault.”

The remaining tokens are added to the Uniswap pool as single-sided liquidity.

Liquidity NFTs are permanently locked in the Clanker LP Locker.

For tokens created via Farcaster or Clanker.world:

Deployments via the Farcaster bot give 80% of trading fees to the creator,

Deployments via Clanker.world give the creator all trading fees.

Automated Trading with CLANKER

The CLANKER (CLANK) token can be traded on Cryptohopper-supported exchanges. Thanks to Cryptohopper integration, users can:

Set up automated trading strategies for CLANK,

Build custom signals based on technical indicators,

Execute trades 24/7 automatically,

Diversify portfolios with CLANK and other cryptocurrencies,

Follow real-time market data and performance analytics.

The Clanker team has formed a strategic partnership with Cryptohopper to make the CLANK token one of the most compatible and efficient cryptocurrencies for bot-based trading.

CLANKER Tokenomics

CLANKER’s token economy is built on long-term sustainability and fair distribution principles. Below is CLANKER’s official token distribution and mechanics:

Token Distribution

40% Public Sale: Distributed to public sale venues.

20% Staking Rewards: Reserved for staking rewards, consisting of tokens locked in smart contracts.

15% Development Team: For the development team; tokens will be released on a 3-year vesting schedule.

10% Marketing & Listings: Used for marketing efforts and exchange listings.

10% Strategic Partnerships: Allocable for ecosystem growth and integrable partnerships.

5% Community & Airdrops: Used for community rewards and airdrop events.

Economic Mechanics

Developer Vesting: 5% of tokens locked for 30 days post-launch.

Protocol-Owned Liquidity: 5% of token supply stored in protocol vaults.

Buyback Program: A weekly fund of $400,000–$500,000 used for token burns and strategic acquisitions.

Fair Launch: CLANKER launched without pre-mining, ensuring equal opportunity for all participants.

CLANKER Team

The CLANKER project is managed by a team of experienced developers and blockchain experts. The team specializes in decentralized finance (DeFi), smart contract audits, and automated trading systems.

Jack Dishman: Project manager and lead developer. Responsible for token economics and Uniswap integrations.

Lily Johnson: Marketing strategies and community management leader.

Carter Appleton: Smart contract engineer; works on security audits and liquidity protocols.

Michael (m00npapi.eth): DeFi strategist and technical advisor; involved in designing liquidity management and buyback systems.

The team continuously improves the Clanker ecosystem and actively works on new chain integrations (e.g., Base, Arbitrum, Monad).

Degen (DEGEN) is a token that began as a meme coin but has evolved to offer real-world utility. What is DEGEN, how does it work, and why is it so popular? In this article, we will explore DEGEN’s features, use cases, and ecosystem in detail.

What Is DEGEN?

DEGEN is a cryptocurrency launched on January 8, 2024, as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain. Initially designed as a reward mechanism to enhance community engagement on the decentralized social media platform Farcaster, DEGEN operates on a blockchain-based social network that prioritizes data security and censorship resistance. DEGEN was created to reward users for producing high-quality content and quickly gained popularity.

DEGEN’s creator, Jacek Trociński, has no official ties to Farcaster but was an active user in the platform’s /degen channel. DEGEN started as a meme coin airdropped to Farcaster users but soon transcended its origins by developing its own Layer-3 (L3) blockchain, Degen Chain. This transformed DEGEN from a mere reward token into an ecosystem token for decentralized applications (dapps).

How Does DEGEN Work?

DEGEN operates as an ERC-20 token, making it compatible with popular wallets and decentralized exchanges. On the Farcaster platform, users can “tip” high-quality content (e.g., original posts or comments) with DEGEN. For example, commenting “100 $DEGEN” on a post sends 100 tokens to the creator. This system bridges online contributions with real-world value.

One of DEGEN’s standout features is the Degen Chain, a Layer-3 blockchain built using Arbitrum Orbit technology and integrated with Base (an Ethereum Layer-2 solution), offering low transaction fees. DEGEN serves as the primary token for gas fees on this chain. Currently in beta testing, Degen Chain provides developers with opportunities in decentralized finance (DeFi), NFTs, and social applications, significantly expanding DEGEN’s utility.

DEGEN Tokenomics

Degen (DEGEN) stands out in the crypto ecosystem with its community-focused approach and transparent tokenomics. Here’s a detailed breakdown of DEGEN’s token structure:

Total Supply and Distribution

DEGEN launched with approximately 37 billion tokens, distributed equitably among stakeholders:

70% Community: The majority, 70% of the total supply, is allocated to the DEGEN community through airdrops and reward programs.

15% Liquidity Pool: 15% of the tokens are directed to liquidity pools to facilitate trading and support market liquidity.

15% Team and Ecosystem: The remaining 15% is used to support the project team, early investors, and ecosystem development.

Airdrop and Liquidity Mining Plan

DEGEN emphasizes airdrops and liquidity mining to drive token distribution:

Airdrop 1: 15% of the total supply was distributed to Farcaster users in the first airdrop.

Airdrop 2: 20% of the supply was allocated to the community in the second airdrop.

Airdrop 3: A planned future airdrop will distribute 25% of the token supply.

Liquidity Mining: 10% of the supply is reserved for rewarding users who provide liquidity to DEGEN pools.

Liquidity Pool: The aforementioned 15% supports liquidity on decentralized exchanges.

Ecosystem Development: 15% is allocated for project partnerships, development efforts, and community initiatives.

Inflation Plan

Starting in 2028, DEGEN will implement a 1% annual inflation rate to ensure long-term sustainability and encourage ecosystem growth.

DEGEN’s tokenomics model prioritizes community growth while providing a solid foundation for liquidity and ecosystem development.

Degen Chain and Its Ecosystem

Degen Chain is a Layer nội dung3 blockchain centered around the DEGEN token. Built on Base, it stands out for its low-cost transactions. In April 2023, Degen Chain set a record with over 2 million daily transactions, with average fees dropping below 0.015 DEGEN (less than 1 cent). This makes it an ideal environment for microtransactions and social applications.

The Degen Chain ecosystem is expanding with projects across various sectors:

DegenSwap: A DeFi platform offering token swapping, liquidity provision, and staking.

FrogSwap: A launchpad for new token launches and a token swapping platform.

DINU: A meme coin created by DegenSwap’s developer.

NFTdegen.lol: Degen Chain’s first NFT launchpad.

Degen Cet (CET): A cat-themed meme coin.

These projects demonstrate that Degen Chain is not just a meme coin blockchain but also a hub for innovation in DeFi, NFTs, and GambleFi.

DEGEN Founding Team

Degen Chain, a pioneering Layer-3 blockchain in the crypto space, owes its creation to a visionary founder. The mastermind behind Degen Chain is Jacek Trociński, an experienced entrepreneur with a background in technology and data engineering. In late 2023, Trociński left his previous career to pursue his own venture in the crypto ecosystem.

Trociński was an active user on Warpcast, a decentralized social media platform built on Farcaster. He played a key role in the early days of Warpcast’s /degen channel, contributing to the community’s growth. This experience laid the groundwork for the creation of the DEGEN token and, subsequently, Degen Chain. Trociński’s vision was to combine the meme coin concept with a community-driven blockchain to deliver real-world applications.

Farcaster client Warpcast started a native approach to creating apps for the distributed social media network. Called mini applications and live as of Tuesday, the new tooling system is akin to the current Farcaster Frames feature, allowing users to run dapps straight into their social network feeds.

Launching a Frame, Warpcast developer horsefacts described in a social media post is easier and tougher in some respects than a mini app view, which is a full HTML/CSS/JS webpage. “Easier because you can use a full interactive canvas and any web framework you want; harder because there’s more to set up than a simple image.”

One of the most often used distributed social media systems made to let users own their data is Farcaster. Fortune noted in June 2024 that the Ethereum-based protocol attracted over 50,000 daily users.

Co-creator of Farcaster, Dan Romero, told me that although small apps created on Farcaster can function on any app, they particularly have a Warpcast capability.

Mini apps might be used to mint NFTs, create games, and generate surveys, among other activities, just as Farcaster Frames allow builders to make any post on the Farcaster interactive app. Horsefacts linked to the well-known cryptocurrency game FlappyCaster, which lets users move a cartoon bird across many challenges.

Romero sent a link to a piece he penned on the definition of “sufficient decentralization” using Paragraph, a Web3 newsletter and publishing platform.

Mini programs will be able to be started from frames as well as “deep links,” a kind of URL that brings visitors straight to a particular page in an app rather than a website or shop. Though the team “may introduce a new frame button type,” the developer documentation adds that for now only Warpcast-specific URLs will be supported.

The decentralized social network platform Farcaster is gearing up to launch its own cryptocurrency.

Farcaster, which has gained traction in the Web3 world, stands out by giving users full control over their data. Unlike centralized platforms like Meta and X, Farcaster gives users direct ownership of their data. Now, Farcaster is in the news with its upcoming token launch.

Last month, Farcaster announced it had raised $150 million in funding. This investment was led by Paradigm, with participation from notable investors such as a16z crypto, Haun, and USV. The company’s valuation reached $1 billion after this investment, marking the largest investment in Web3 social media to date. Following the investment, it was reported that Farcaster was preparing to launch its own token.

Farcaster, an Ethereum-based decentralized protocol, allows developers to create new social media applications using smart contracts. Users can make posts called “casts” on the platform and pay $5 annually to store their data on-chain.

Farcaster’s token launch aims to expand the platform’s user base and increase engagement. The token will enable users to take a more active role on the platform and contribute to the platform’s ecosystem through various incentive mechanisms. Investors believe that the token launch will accelerate Farcaster’s growth.

Farcaster, a social media company that is built on the blockchain, has closed its Series A funding round at $150 million. The funding was headed by Paradigm venture, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Haun Ventures, USV, Variant, and Standard Crypto. This has sparked a wave in the blockchain space and notably triggered a 17% rise in the community-generated token Degen (DEGEN).

Driving Growth and Development

Farcaster’s founder, Dan Romero, who previously worked at Coinbase, shared the news on May 21 in a post on X, stating that he was sure that the money would “help sustain Farcaster for many years”. Walden, the co-founder and general partner at Variant Fund, said, “Farcaster is a burgeoning protocol that is already rapidly expanding.”

Romero also described the plans of the platform’s further development and its intention to increase the number of users. Since October, Farcaster has had 350,000 paid users and 50x network usage. The new funds will allow expanding the platform by adding channels and direct messages to boost the number of daily active users and attract developers.

Degen Token’s Remarkable Rise

The funding round was also quickly followed by a 17% increase in the price of the DEGEN token, which was trading at $0.02289, according to CoinMarketCap. Though DEGEN is not an official token of the Farcaster protocol, it is already an essential part of the platform’s social aspect.

DEGEN was launched in January by Jacek Trociński, who is a user of a Farcaster Degen channel, as memecoin. It was first distributed directly to users who made valuable submissions or engaged with the posts. Since then, DEGEN has emerged, and that is why Trociński created a meme coin-based layer-3 blockchain called the DEGEN chain, where DEGEN acts as the native gas token.

According to Bloomberg in March, the funding round will increase the valuation of Merkle Manufactory, the company behind Farcaster, to $1 billion, which will be a major achievement for the blockchain social network.

Future Prospects

Farcaster’s growth in the blockchain industry can be seen from the successful Series A funding and the increase in the DEGEN token price. Having attracted significant investments and a continually increasing audience, Farcaster is likely to expand its platform and strengthen its position in the sphere of social media.
