Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has entered into a strategic collaboration with global asset manager Franklin Templeton. The partnership introduces a new framework that allows institutional clients to use tokenized money market fund (MMF) shares as off-exchange collateral.

The initiative is designed to address long-standing concerns among large-scale investors regarding custody risk, capital inefficiency, and counterparty exposure. Under the new structure, institutions can deploy capital in digital markets without transferring their underlying assets directly onto the exchange.

Details of the Binance and Franklin Templeton Collaboration

The program is built around tokenized money market fund shares issued via Franklin Templeton’s Benji Technology Platform. Eligible institutional participants can pledge these tokenized fund shares as collateral when trading on Binance.

Importantly, the underlying assets remain held off-exchange within regulated custody infrastructure. The custody layer is supported by Ceffu, Binance’s institutional custody partner. While the tokenized fund shares are securely stored outside the exchange environment, their value is mirrored within Binance’s trading system. This mechanism allows institutions to maintain exposure to regulated, yield-bearing money market instruments while simultaneously engaging in crypto trading activities.

Enhancing Capital Efficiency and Risk Management

One of the core advantages of this model is improved capital efficiency. Institutions no longer need to leave significant funds idle on trading platforms. Instead, they can continue earning yield through traditional money market funds while leveraging the same assets as collateral in digital asset markets.

By keeping the underlying assets within regulated custody rather than on the exchange itself, the structure reduces counterparty risk. This is particularly relevant for institutional participants that prioritize regulatory compliance, asset protection, and operational transparency.

Click here to register on Binance Exchange with a 20% commission discount!

Bridging Traditional Finance and Digital Assets

The collaboration reflects a broader trend toward integrating traditional financial instruments with blockchain-based markets. Tokenized real-world assets are increasingly viewed as a practical solution for aligning conventional capital markets with digital trading infrastructure.

Through this program, Binance and Franklin Templeton are effectively creating a bridge between regulated financial products and crypto market activity. For institutional investors, the result is a more secure, flexible, and capital-efficient way to participate in digital asset trading while maintaining exposure to established financial instruments.

Last week’s sharp sell-off in the crypto market significantly impacted digital asset funds. The three-week streak of outflows accelerated during the recent downturn, resulting in a total net withdrawal of $2 billion from crypto funds. This level of outflow has not been seen since the tariff crisis in February. Despite the overall bearish sentiment, two altcoin funds attracted substantial investments, standing out as exceptions in a challenging market.

Record Outflows from Major Funds

CoinShares’ latest weekly report highlighted heavy withdrawals from Bitcoin and Ethereum funds. Bitcoin-focused funds alone saw $1.3 billion in outflows, while Ethereum funds lost $688 million. Even altcoins that had previously attracted significant capital, such as XRP and Solana, were not immune to the downturn. XRP funds experienced net outflows of $15.5 million, and Solana funds saw $8.3 million withdrawn.

Cumulatively, the past three weeks have resulted in $3.2 billion in fund outflows, indicating a notable decline in investor risk appetite.

Surprising Interest in Litecoin and Sui Funds

Amid this market turbulence, Litecoin and Sui funds recorded remarkable inflows. Litecoin funds received $3.3 million, while Sui funds attracted $6 million in new investments. Cardano funds also saw modest inflows of $400,000.

The influx into these altcoin funds suggests that investors are increasingly looking to diversify their portfolios during downturns. It also reflects confidence in the long-term potential of specific projects, even when broader market conditions are negative.

Rising Short-Bitcoin Positions

Investors anticipating further declines in Bitcoin are also becoming more active. Short-Bitcoin funds, which had seen $12 million in inflows last week, attracted another $9 million this week. These funds are designed to profit from Bitcoin price declines, providing a hedge for risk-averse market participants.

Overall, the current landscape indicates a broad market correction and growing caution among fund investors. However, the notable inflows into Litecoin and Sui funds demonstrate that even in volatile markets, some investors are ready to seize opportunities in selective altcoin projects.

Sphere is a project focused on improving the efficiency of value transfers. It offers a secure and compliant platform that supports various payment methods and operates in over 120 countries. The service is designed for integration with existing payment infrastructures, providing APIs for alternative payments and back-office automation, without custodying funds. Sphere is the payments infrastructure enabling merchants from emerging markets to access cost-effective, secure, and near-instant cross-border payments via stablecoins. Through user-friendly graphical interfaces (GUIs), Sphere orchestrates blockchains, custodial infrastructure, and financial service providers to make stablecoin payments accessible. In this article, we will explore what Sphere is, how it works, its use cases, advantages, risks, investors, team, and roadmap in detail.

What is Sphere?

Sphere is designed as the operating system for the digital economy, transforming cross-border payments into a fast, secure, and reliable experience. It focuses on empowering businesses and individuals in underserved and emerging markets, removing barriers to global commerce and fostering economic growth. Sphere combines cutting-edge technology with intuitive and user-friendly interfaces, enabling businesses to turn transactions into valuable connections. As global economic interconnectedness increases, Sphere provides businesses with tools to thrive.

Sphere stands out with its relentless focus on scalability, precision, and adaptability. It not only addresses today’s payment challenges but also builds a solid foundation for the future of payments on the internet. Operating without custodying funds, it integrates with existing payment systems and offers settlement in under 30 minutes across more than 160 markets.

Purpose of Sphere

Sphere aims to ensure everyone has a seat at the table of modern money movement. It seeks to increase economic inclusion by removing barriers faced by merchants and individuals in emerging markets for cross-border payments. Traditional payment systems often involve high costs, slow transaction times, and complex integrations, which hinder growth, especially in underserved regions. Sphere addresses these issues with stablecoin-based payments, offering a fast, low-cost, and reliable alternative.

The platform simplifies global transactions for businesses and optimizes operations by orchestrating financial service providers. Sphere is not just a payment solution but also a tool for businesses to build global connections. Through user-friendly interfaces and APIs, it provides a system accessible to users regardless of their technical expertise.

How Does Sphere Work?

Sphere operates through a combination of blockchain technology, financial service providers, and user-friendly interfaces. The platform integrates with existing payment infrastructures without custodying funds and enables stablecoin-based cross-border payments. Sphere’s core components include:

Avalanche (AVAX) surged more than 11% in the past 24 hours, reaching its highest level in seven months. The rally comes as Avalanche works toward establishing two crypto-focused investment vehicles in the United States, aiming to raise $1 billion. This initiative seeks to solidify Avalanche’s role as a key player in global capital markets.

Renewed Investor Interest on AVAX

Investor appetite for AVAX is clearly picking up again. The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) indicator has climbed to its highest level in nearly two months, signaling strong capital inflows. This trend highlights that AVAX is not only viewed as a candidate for short-term gains but also as a long-term accumulation asset among market participants.

Buying Pressure and Momentum Shift

The steady rise in CMF reflects a decisive tilt toward buyers in the market. Despite broader volatility across the crypto sector, AVAX has managed to maintain upward momentum. The growing accumulation behavior from investors further strengthens Avalanche’s outlook and positions it favorably for both short- and mid-term price appreciation.

Bitcoin’s Influence on Market Sentiment

Bitcoin’s ability to hold above key support levels has also bolstered confidence across digital assets. With BTC showing resilience, AVAX traders are increasingly optimistic about higher price targets. The latest rally reinforces bullish conviction, encouraging speculators to bet on Avalanche’s continued growth.

A Strategic Path Forward for AVAX

Avalanche’s plan to launch U.S.-based investment products could serve as a catalyst beyond short-term price action. If the $1 billion fundraising effort succeeds, it may accelerate institutional adoption, broaden Avalanche’s investor base, and strengthen its standing in the competitive crypto finance landscape.

Sonic SVM and Galaxy Interactive launch multi-million dollar Fund for Web3 gaming and AI.

Sonic, a Solana layer-2 blockchain, and venture investment firm Galaxy Interactive have announced a new fund aimed at advancing Web3 gaming and other emerging cryptocurrency sectors. This announcement comes as interest in artificial intelligence agents is on the rise.

Sonic, the first gaming-focused Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) L2 network, unveiled G.A.M.E. (Game, AI, Meme, Ecosystem) Fund 1 to accelerate the development of Web3 games, AI agents, and social media content creation tools on HyperGrid.

The fund will offer up to $1 million in support per project, with no limit on the number of accelerator participants.

Additionally, the fund will provide technical and infrastructure support, marketing and user acquisition assistance, and integration with Sonic’s TikTok Applayer, which now has over 2 million users.

According to Sam Englebardt, founding general partner at Galaxy Interactive, Sonic could bridge the gap between traditional Web2 and Web3 gaming worlds:

“This fund represents our commitment to backing visionary teams who are building the future of interactive entertainment, leveraging AI and social platforms in novel ways.”

The fund has made its first investment in Gomble Games, a Binance Labs and Animoca Brands-backed protocol transforming traditional Web2 games into Web3.

Gomble Games has reported over 110 million unique users worldwide across 230 games, after becoming the most downloaded mobile game app in South Korea in 2023.

SONIC/USD, All-Time Chart

The announcement follows the Sonic SVM (SONIC) token generation event on January 7, where the token reached a market cap of $365 million within the first 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data.

Chris Zhu, founder and CEO of Sonic SVM, stated that Web3 gaming adoption will be driven by AI agents through infinite virtual experiences.

Zhu: “We can see AI creating massive interfaces for humans to interact with the digital and real worlds. Sonic is focused on helping teams build towards infinite, asset-driven gaming experiences powered by AI.”

Multimodal AI agents, capable of interacting across social media platforms like X and TikTok, represent the greatest growth potential.

Zhu: “As agent creation and interaction become more sophisticated, there is a direct link between these agents’ social influence and economic value, and Sonic is at the perfect intersection for that.”

Interest in AI agents surged after Luna, an AI agent on Virtuals Protocol, executed an autonomous transaction with another AI agent on the blockchain on January 2, according to reports.

Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), the world’s largest Bitcoin ETF, has seen net inflows for the first time in months. According to data from Farside Investors, $63 million in net inflows were added to the fund on Friday.

GBTC had experienced billions of dollars in outflows after it began trading as an ETF in January, coinciding with the downturn in the cryptocurrency market and the approval of other Bitcoin ETFs.

During this period, the total amount of Bitcoin held in GBTC dropped from over 600,000 to around 290,000. One of the main reasons for this was GBTC’s higher management fee compared to other funds.

Promising Development

This net inflow into GBTC can be interpreted as a renewed interest in Bitcoin. The fund’s asset value has also been on an upward trend lately.

However, the future direction of Bitcoin’s price remains uncertain. Experts advise investors to follow the market closely and consider their risks.
