Bitcoin ‘s First Wallet Receives $1.17 Million in Surprise Transaction! Coinbase director Conor Grogan suggested that the anonymous Bitcoin transfer could be a strange type of ETF marketing campaign.

An anonymous Bitcoin user transferred 26.9 Bitcoin (BTC) worth $43,946 in a surprise transaction to the Genesis Wallet on January 5 at 1:52 AM Eastern Time. The Genesis Wallet is the first wallet on the Bitcoin network, created by Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto, and it gained a value of $1.17 million with this transaction.

The transfer originated from an empty wallet and included a transaction fee of $100, which is well above average. The wallet’s initial funding involved the movement of funds from three wallets to 12 other wallets. Most of the funds came from a wallet associated with Binance, according to Arkham Intelligence, a blockchain analysis platform.

Conor Grogan stated this Bitcoin transaction could be Nakamoto

Coinbase director Conor Grogan stated that this transaction could be either Nakamoto waking up and depositing BTC from Binance or someone burning over $1 million. Grogan also suggested that the anonymous transfer could be a strange Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) marketing campaign.

Since Nakamoto disappeared in December 2010, there has been no movement of funds from any of the wallets associated with Nakamoto, including the Genesis Wallet. It is possible that Nakamoto still holds the private keys to these wallets and controls the funds.

The Genesis Wallet initially contained 50 Bitcoin at the time of Nakamoto’s disappearance. Bitcoin’s 14th birthday was celebrated in various ways by BTC users around the world. Some chose to send BTC to the address where the rewards for mining the genesis block were located. These gifts increased the wallet’s balance to 72 Bitcoin by the end of 2023.

The latest transaction increased the current balance to 99.67 BTC, worth approximately $4.3 million.
