]]> Bitcoin (BTC) became the first asset to enter the macro asset class after 150 years. Willy Woo, a leading figure in the cryptocurrency world, announced that Bitcoin has reached a turning point in the traditional financial system. According to Woo, despite its 16-year lifespan, BTC has entered the same league as established assets such as real estate, stocks and gold, becoming a “global macro asset”.

Bitcoin’s Historic Success: 1 Trillion Dollar Threshold

The most important criterion Woo emphasizes is the market capitalization, which has reached $1 trillion. Bitcoin currently has a market capitalization of $2.05 trillion. This rate corresponds to 61% of the entire cryptocurrency market at the moment. It is the first member of the “macro asset club” in 150 years, joining oil in the 1850s and real estate in the 1800s. It is also the only asset to set a record for the speed at which it gains status (in as little as 16 years).

  • Store of Value: Bitcoin being the official currency of El Salvador, as well as companies like MicroStrategy holding BTC on their balance sheets, is being used in every financial field globally.
  • Medium of Exchange: Bitcoin is now used for daily payments in many areas around the world. This makes it one of the most important parts of daily life.
  • Anti-Inflation: Unlike central banks, which have a fixed supply (21 million BTC), there is no such thing as increasing the supply. This acts as a great shield against inflation

Can Ethereum Rival BTC?

The fact that BTC has reached a financial dimension that reaches global macro asset status for the first time in 150 years brings the same question to mind for ETH. The ETH community is also wondering whether ETH, like BTC, can reach a new global macro asset status point as it has many aspects that are used in daily life and has started to be adopted globally. We will see this in the coming years. But being the first in its field and holding a much larger share of the market volume than other cryptocurrencies makes BTC unique compared to other cryptocurrencies.
