Ripple Prime: Expanding Institutional Access

Following its acquisition of multi-asset prime brokerage firm Hidden Road, Ripple has merged its licensing structure and trading solutions under the unified brand Ripple Prime. This move has created a robust financial infrastructure that allows institutions to access multiple asset classes — from foreign exchange (FX) and digital assets to derivatives, swaps, and fixed income products.

Michael Higgins, International CEO of Ripple Prime, emphasized how this launch enhances Ripple’s service portfolio:

“We’re expanding our capabilities to deliver a comprehensive suite of trading solutions for U.S. institutions. This development marks an important step toward providing a full-spectrum brokerage experience in the digital asset market.”

Through Ripple Prime, institutional clients in the U.S. can now cross-margin OTC spot positions with other parts of their portfolio, including OTC swaps and CME-listed futures and options — offering greater flexibility and capital efficiency.

Ripple (XRP) Spot ETFs Could Arrive Within Two Weeks

According to financial expert Nate Geraci, the first spot XRP ETFs could be approved in the United States within the next two weeks. Geraci pointed out that the SEC’s five-year legal battle with Ripple concluded only three months ago, marking the end of a long regulatory standoff.

In his view, the potential launch of XRP spot ETFs represents a symbolic shift — signaling the closing chapter of anti-crypto regulatory resistance and the beginning of a new era of institutional acceptance for digital assets like XRP.

Ripple continues to strengthen its position across the blockchain and digital finance ecosystem:

“The launch of XRP futures on CME Group marks a significant institutional milestone for XRP.” Garlinghouse also noted that liquidity provider Hidden Road executed the first block trade at the opening. 

CME XRP Futures and Their Features 

CME Group offers two types of futures contracts: Micro XRP futures representing 2,500 XRP and standard futures covering 50,000 XRP. Both contracts are based on the CME CF XRP-Dollar Reference Rate, providing investors with a transparent and reliable trading platform. The cash-settled structure enables institutions to take positions without holding XRP, and an increase in institutional demand is expected. Crypto lawyer Bill Morgan highlighted that this structure is attractive to institutions. Additionally, the futures enhance price discovery and hedging options. 

The company Global Head of Crypto Products, Giovanni Vicioso, stated that demand for XRP comes from both retail and institutional investors. As a result, CME’s move accelerates Ripple’s mainstream adoption. The recent launch of an XRP ETF in Brazil indicates growing global interest. However, spot XRP ETFs in the U.S. are yet to be approved. CME’s trusted platform supports XRP’s institutional adoption. 

Additionally, XRP’s current market capitalization is approximately $138.9 billion. As of May 20, the price is trading at $2.37.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated: “The U.S. market is open for the first time with the former SEC overhang gone, and the industry is maturing to meet TradFi needs. We’re accelerating digital asset adoption at scale.”
