Gateway To Europe And Asia

Announced on June 2, the acquisition adds over 50 licenses and a strong institutional client base to Robinhood’s growing crypto division. Bitstamp serves more than 5,000 institutional clients and 50,000 retail users, with most of its trading activity coming from institutional players.

The acquisition significantly extends Robinhood’s crypto services beyond the US into key markets across Europe, the UK, and Asia. Bitstamp is already integrated with Robinhood’s Legend platform and Smart Exchange Routing system, streamlining cross-border access and performance.

Tokenization: The Next Big Move

CEO Vladimir Tenev said Robinhood’s next strategic goal in crypto is tokenization of real-world assets. He highlighted that making private equities like OpenAI and SpaceX investable via tokenized shares could revolutionize liquidity in secondary markets.

Robinhood also continues to explore further acquisitions, including the recently announced deal with Canadian crypto platform WonderFi for $179 million.

With a forward-looking strategy and strong financials, Robinhood is positioning itself not just as a trading app, but as a global crypto powerhouse.

The online brokerage platform Robinhood, along with its two subsidiaries, Robinhood Securities LLC and Robinhood Financial LLC, has been fined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for failing to comply with critical regulatory requirements.

According to the SEC’s statement on January 13, Robinhood’s subsidiaries were found to have violated various securities laws, including failing to accurately report trading activities, adhere to short-selling rules, submit timely suspicious activity reports, maintain proper books and records, and fulfill obligations to protect customer information.

The SEC revealed that during 2020 and 2021, Robinhood failed to digitally store and safeguard customer communications as required. Additionally, 11,849 electronic information requests (Electronic Blue Sheets) submitted by Robinhood contained inaccurate or incomplete data, resulting in erroneous reporting of 392 million transactions.

Despite the fines, Robinhood’s (HOOD) stock price remained relatively unaffected. On January 13, the stock fell by 1.22%, closing at $39.59. However, it recovered slightly in after-hours trading, rising by 0.48%.
