October is usually an active month for investors in the crypto market, and this year is expected to follow the same trend. A total of 13 altcoins are scheduled for major token unlocks, releasing approximately $575 million worth of tokens into circulation. While this will increase market liquidity, it may also cause short-term price volatility.

The largest token unlocks in October will take place on the Grass network with $144 million worth of tokens. In second place comes the Plasma (XPL) network, with a $92 million unlock. Other altcoins will also see small and mid-sized unlocks, offering additional opportunities for investors.

Key Unlocks and Dates

Immutable X (IMX) – October 2
Unlock: 24.52M tokens ($17.6M), 1.26% of circulating supply.
For IMX, this unlock means tokens allocated for ecosystem projects will enter circulation.

Linea (LINEA) – October 10
Unlock: 480M + 600M long-term tokens ($28M), 6.57% of circulating supply.
LINEA will view this period as a critical opportunity for ecosystem development and liquidity support.

Fasttoken (FTN) – October 18
Unlock: 20M tokens ($40.4M), 2.04% of circulating supply.

Jupiter (JUP) – October 28
Unlock: 53.47M tokens ($24.5M), 1.72% of circulating supply.

Outlook

The major token unlocks in October bring both opportunities and risks for investors. Large releases such as Grass and Plasma could exert selling pressure in the short term, while medium and smaller unlocks across other altcoins may offer investment opportunities.

For crypto investors, closely monitoring market movements during this period will be crucial to anticipate liquidity changes and potential price fluctuations. In the long run, token unlocks play a key role in strengthening ecosystems and improving token liquidity.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided to drop its investigation into Immutable, an Australian Web3 gaming platform, and will not proceed with enforcement charges, the company announced on Tuesday.

Immutable had previously disclosed receiving a Wells notice from the SEC in November 2024, signaling a potential enforcement action related to the listing and private sales of its native IMX token in 2021. However, the regulator has now decided to close the case, marking another shift in the SEC’s evolving crypto regulation approach under Acting Chair Mark Uyeda.

Regulatory Clarity for Web3 and Gaming

Immutable’s co-founder and president, Robbie Ferguson, expressed optimism about this decision, calling it a “significant milestone” for both the crypto industry and gaming sector. He added that with growing regulatory clarity, Immutable plans to accelerate efforts to expand digital ownership for over 3.1 billion gamers worldwide.

You Might Be Interested In: Elon Musk Talks About the Name of a New Memecoin!

The SEC declined to comment on the matter, maintaining its standard stance of not confirming or denying the existence of investigations.

SEC’s Shift in Crypto Regulation

This development is part of a broader trend, as the SEC has recently dropped investigations into several major crypto companies, including:

Crypto exchange Gemini

Trading platform Robinhood

NFT marketplace OpenSea

Yuga Labs (BAYC NFT creators)

Additionally, litigation against crypto firms such as Kraken, Coinbase, Ripple, ConsenSys, and Cumberland DRW has been dropped, while cases involving Tron and Binance have been paused.

This shift aligns with President Donald Trump’s administration, which has brought a regulatory overhaul in favor of a more structured and transparent crypto framework. The SEC has established a Crypto Task Force, led by crypto-friendly Commissioner Hester Peirce, to conduct roundtable discussions with industry players.

Ongoing Crypto Investigations

Despite these dismissals, not all crypto companies are off the hook. Unicoin remains under review, facing potential fraud and unregistered securities allegations. Similarly, Crypto.com, which previously received a Wells notice and sued the SEC and former Chair Gary Gensler, has not publicly updated the status of its investigation.

These ongoing cases highlight that while the SEC’s stance on crypto is evolving, enforcement actions have not completely disappeared.

Ethereum-based NFT collections saw a significant surge last week, driving the total digital collectible weekly sales volume to $304 million.

On December 21, data tracking platform CryptoSlam reported that Ethereum-based NFTs experienced a 76% increase week-on-week, reaching $201 million in sales. This represents 66% of the total NFT sales volume over the past seven days.

In comparison, Bitcoin-based NFTs recorded $40 million in sales, while Solana-based collections reached $29 million in sales. Mythos Chain, Immutable, Polygon, and BNB Chain collectively recorded a weekly volume of $25.9 million.

This weekly record also surpassed the previous NFT sales record of $296 million set in September, when digital collectibles saw their lowest monthly sales volume since 2021.

Ethereum Collections Lead the NFT Rankings

Last week, seven out of the top 10 NFT collections by sales volume were Ethereum-based.

Pudgy Penguins collection topped the week with a sales volume of $54.4 million.

In second place was the project’s LilPudgys collection, which recorded approximately $20 million in sales.

7 Out of The Top 10 NFT Collections For The Week Are Ethereum-based Collections

The Azuki NFT collection saw a 130% increase compared to last week, reaching $18 million in sales volume.

The project’s Azuki Elementals collection recorded a 226% week-on-week increase, achieving $7 million in sales.

Popular NFT collections like Doodles and CryptoPunks also made it into the top 10 collections by sales volume last week. Doodles recorded $13 million, while CryptoPunks achieved a sales volume of $7.4 million.

NFTs Maintain Momentum from Early December

NFT weekly volumes have been strong since the beginning of December. Digital collectibles recorded $187 million in sales during the first week of the month, with the Pudgy Penguins collection leading the week with $25 million in sales.

While Pudgy Penguins NFTs dominate in volume, the collection’s crypto token has not shared the same success. On December 17, the Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) token dropped by over 50% after its launch.

According to CoinGecko data, the token is currently trading at $0.03, which is about a 55% decrease from its peak price.

In just 21 days, December’s NFT sales volume reached $678 million, surpassing the previous month’s record of $562 million.

This sales record makes December the highest-performing month for NFTs since May, when the market saw $602 million in sales.

Blockchain gaming platform Immutable has announced that it received a Wells notification from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it may initiate an enforcement action for violations of securities laws. The company noted that the notification was sent immediately following the initial SEC meeting. A Wells notification is a formal notification that SEC staff may recommend enforcement action against a firm.

“Normally, before a Wells notification is issued, there are months of discussions between the SEC and the company’s attorneys so that the SEC can fully understand the situation,” Immutable said in a statement on Thursday. “However, in our initial interaction with the SEC, we were told that the company would receive a Wells notification within a week, and we received the notification within hours.”

Might interest you: What is BabyDoge?

Immutable noted that the SEC believed the allegations could include a listing and private sale of the IMX token in 2021, but the notification provided little detail. The company also said, “We are aware of relevant investigations from the Department of Justice, but there are no actual or proposed legal actions at this time.”

While the SEC does not comment on potential investigations, Wells notices have been sent to several crypto firms over the past year, including Robinhood Crypto, Crypto.com, and OpenSea. The SEC has also taken enforcement actions against Coinbase, Kraken, and other major firms. SEC Chairman Gary Gensler emphasized that crypto firms must comply with the rules and register with the SEC, and that investor protections are vital. However, some in the crypto industry have argued that the rules made for traditional financial institutions do not apply to the digital asset industry, and therefore registration is not possible.

Immutable has argued that IMX is not a security and has announced that it will continue to fight on this issue if necessary. The company said, “We are confident in the value that digital property can bring to the 3.1 billion gamers in the world, and the power of blockchain to create a better internet,” and that it will fight resolutely to defend both its rights and the rights of the industry if necessary.

Blockchain and Web3 technologies continue to attract attention with the innovative solutions they offer to the gaming world. Among the possibilities that these technologies provide to the gaming industry, the ownership of digital assets by players and the portability of these assets between games stand out. Immutable, one of the leading projects supporting these features in the Web3 gaming industry, offers a more transparent, reliable and flexible infrastructure for game developers and players.

Immutable draws attention especially with the Immutable X platform. Immutable X, which offers Layer 2 solutions to solve Ethereum’s scalability problems, brings a new standard to the Web3 gaming industry with low transaction fees and high speed. This infrastructure enables game developers to make faster transactions and reach wider audiences.

Recently, Immutable has been signing many important collaborations and partnerships with the aim of growing the Web3 gaming ecosystem. The company has had a remarkable place in the Web3 ecosystem, especially with its agreements with industry giants such as GameStop, TikTok, and OpenSea. These partnerships show that Immutable is in a strong position not only as a gaming platform, but also in NFT trading.

Growing Interest and New Opportunities in the Web3 Gaming Industry

The web3 gaming sector is growing rapidly as it gives players full ownership over in-game assets. Through platforms such as Immutable, players can secure their in-game assets on the blockchain, trade them on trading platforms and use them in different games. These developments are further fueling interest in the Web3 gaming ecosystem and reshaping the traditional gaming experience.

Immutable’s recently announced projects and partnerships are attracting the attention of other projects in the industry and contributing to the mass adoption of Web3 games. Immutable’s strategy in this area is based on providing game developers with a platform where they can easily integrate into the Web3 world and introducing gamers to the advantages of owning blockchain-based assets.

Immutable’s ecosystem, strengthened by new investments and projects, is expected to increase competition in the Web3 gaming industry, with more innovations and opportunities for players and developers in the future. These developments reveal how the gaming world is evolving with Web3 technologies and position Immutable at the center of this transformation. Here are some of the popular Web3 games on the Immutable network that have been gaining traction recently.

What is Gods Unchained?

Gods Unchained is a strategic card game developed on the Immutable X platform that has gained a lot of attention in the industry. Offering similar gameplay to
popular card games such as Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering, Gods Unchained allows players to store their cards on the blockchain and trade them on trading platforms. This feature gives players full ownership over in-game assets, differentiating it from traditional games and making it both fun and lucrative.

What is Illuvium?

Illuvium is a blockchain-based RPG (role-playing game) and open world game developed on Immutable X. Players can capture and train creatures called “Illuvials”, which can be traded as NFTs. Illuvium stands out with its high graphics quality and unique gameplay mechanics. It offers a different experience in the Web3 game world with features such as making new discoveries in the game world, developing creatures and competing in PvP (player versus player) battles.

Polygon Labs announced that the first version of AggLayer will be released in February.

The goal is to enable developers to connect blockchains to support unified liquidity. AggLayer will provide uniform security between modular and monolithic chains, including those found in the Polygon ecosystem.

This innovative solution will be a critical component of the next network version, Polygon 2.0. Unlike typical interoperability solutions, AlgLayer will aggregate ZK proofs from all connected chains.

“As a central component of Polygon 2.0, AggLayer will use ZK proofs to create a seamless, collective environment that feels like a single chain, even if each chain in the ecosystem remains independent,” said Polygon Labs.

Polygon will primarily run a Layer 2 network based on sidechains and ZK-Rollups, which includes: Polygon zkEVM

In addition, it also offers a software development kit called AggLayer CDK. Many Layer 2 networks, including OKX, Immutable, Astar, Canto, Palm Network, Aavegotchi, and IDEX, have been developed using this CDK toolkit. AggLayer is expected to facilitate the integration of all these chains within Polygon 2.0.

Bitcoin is currently a bandack above 38,000 dollars and if it can hold at this level for two days and enter the weekend like this, it could be a positive scenario for Bitcoin. Currently, there is also movement in some altcoins alongside Bitcoin. For example, Avax is again above 21.50 dollars. Towards the weekend, we may start to see increases in some other altcoins again.
