A new wave of scam is targeting hardware wallet owners through an unexpected channel: physical mail. As of February 2026, reports indicate that users of Ledger and Trezor have received counterfeit letters posing as official support communications. The goal is simple but dangerous: trick recipients into revealing their 24-word recovery seed phrases.

Unlike typical phishing emails, this campaign leverages the perceived legitimacy of printed correspondence. The letters feature realistic branding, formal layouts, and urgent language designed to pressure users into taking immediate action.

How the Scheme Operates

The scammer letters typically claim that a “mandatory authentication check” or “transaction verification” is required to maintain wallet access. Some warn recipients that failure to comply by a specific deadline could result in loss of access to their funds. Others instruct users to scan a QR code for what is described as a critical security update.

Scanning the code directs victims to websites that closely imitate official domains. These fake portals prompt users to enter their recovery phrases under the guise of verification. Once the seed phrase is submitted, attackers gain full control of the wallet and can transfer all stored crypto assets.

To build credibility, the letters often include reminders never to share recovery phrases online—an ironic tactic that lowers suspicion before directing users to malicious sites.

Why Hardware Wallet Users Are Vulnerable

Previous security incidents have made hardware wallet customers attractive targets. In 2020, a data breach exposed the personal information of more than 270,000 Ledger customers, including email addresses and physical mailing details. In 2021, scammers distributed tampered devices and fake executive letters urging users to migrate funds. A 2023 supply-chain compromise affecting Ledger’s Connect Kit software also resulted in significant losses tied to Ethereum-based applications.

These past exposures provide attackers with verified contact data, enabling more convincing and targeted campaigns.

How to Stay Protected

Legitimate wallet providers never request recovery phrases under any circumstances. If an unexpected letter arrives, users should independently visit the company’s official website by manually typing the address into their browser rather than scanning QR codes or clicking links.

Seed phrases must remain strictly offline and should never be entered on any website. Additional safeguards such as two-factor authentication, multi-signature setups, and regular wallet monitoring can further reduce risk.

This campaign highlights an evolving threat landscape where offline communication channels are weaponized. Hardware wallet owners must treat every unsolicited request with skepticism and rely on verified sources before taking action.

The worlds of crypto security and luxury automotive have come together in a striking collaboration. Ledger has officially announced a special-edition Ledger Stax hardware wallet developed jointly with Lamborghini. The project delivers a high-end product both in aesthetics and security, aiming to offer digital asset owners a unique experience.

Crypto Security Meets Supercar Aesthetics

Ledger Stax is already regarded as a premium hardware wallet, but the Lamborghini partnership takes its design vision to a new level. The signature elements of luxury automotive design have been combined with Ledger’s security architecture to create a limited-edition, collectible product.

This special model features:

Supercar-inspired sharp lines

Premium material choices

Customized surface designs

Ledger states that the product is created both for collectors and advanced crypto users.

Special-Edition Stax Maintains High Security Standards

The collaboration is not limited to design — it also enhances security and user experience. The special edition maintains the original Ledger Stax features, including:

Hardware-level security architecture

E Ink touchscreen

Multi-chain support

Bluetooth connectivity

Long-lasting battery

Thus, while bearing Lamborghini’s design fingerprint, it delivers Ledger’s industry-leading security without compromise. In the partnership announcement, Ledger emphasized:

“We partnered with Lamborghini to create a special Ledger Stax. Bringing the pinnacle of automotive design together with the highest security standard and our most advanced signer.”.

Luxury Brands Continue Entering the Crypto World

The Ledger–Lamborghini collaboration is another example of traditional luxury brands increasing their presence in Web3 and the crypto ecosystem. In recent years, brands from fashion, automotive, and art have entered the space through Web3 integrations, NFT projects, and hardware partnerships.

This Lamborghini-branded Stax edition is expected to attract strong interest both among collectors and crypto users.

The collaboration highlights how crypto security devices are evolving beyond purely technical tools to become prestige design products. The distinctive look brought by the Lamborghini partnership strengthens Ledger’s innovation profile while offering crypto users a high-end, premium experience.

Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet warned users against certain crypto transactions. The npm supply chain attack is emptying the most commonly used crypto wallets. In this case, users are advised to avoid common-based transactions. However, warnings were issued regarding the use of hardware wallets only.

A JavaScript npm account that can both track and direct crypto transactions was found to be distributing packages containing malicious code. This highlighted that developers and affected packages were at great risk shortly after the attack. Since secure versions have not yet been released, the community was notified of this situation via the Hackernoon profile.

It is emphasized that the stolen npm maintainer account could not be recovered and was most likely stolen through a fake 2FA process. GitHub users have also reported receiving suspicious emails sent via npmjs support. This incident is considered the largest npm supply chain attack in history. Warnings have been issued that if the emails succeed in compromising other user accounts, more suppliers could be at risk.

Crypto Wallets Under Supply Chain Threat

Cryptopolitan recently announced that two packages were compromised in a crypto theft attack via Ethereum. It was also stated that the attack was quite large in scale. It was emphasized that 2 billion downloads per week affected 18 popular npm packages. Warnings were also issued about the need to avoid these packages. Supply chain attacks are considered one of the most significant risks in the crypto world. Even if users perform their transactions correctly, the destination of funds may still be subject to this risk.

One of the oldest assets in the crypto world, Monero (XMR), is reportedly under a 51% attack. Experts claim that this attack, allegedly carried out by the Qubic mining pool, has been successful.

Attack Details

Charles Guillemet, CTO of hardware wallet producer Ledger, stated:

“We detected major changes in the Monero chain this morning. Qubic mining pool has been working for months to grow its hashrate capacity. With its current power, Qubic can rewrite the blockchain, perform double spending, and censor any transaction.”

A 51% attack occurs when more than half of a blockchain’s control power is taken over by a single entity. This poses significant security risks, especially for privacy-focused altcoin projects.

What is a 51% Attack?

This attack happens when an entity controls more than 50% of the network’s hash power, enabling them to censor transactions, execute double spends, and rewrite the blockchain’s history. While it’s challenging to carry out on larger networks, smaller ones face higher risk.

Monero (XMR) Price Outlook

Following the attack claims, Monero’s price saw a sharp drop. XMR is currently trading at $251, down -6.11% on the day. From a technical standpoint, slipping below this level could increase selling pressure. However, if news flow stabilizes and network security is restored, a short-term rebound remains possible.

For investors, this incident once again highlights the critical importance of blockchain security. How Monero navigates this crisis will be decisive for both its price performance and the broader trust in privacy-focused crypto projects.

Masked Men Tried to Kidnap Crypto CEO’s Daughter

In a shocking attempt, masked assailants tried to kidnap the daughter of a French crypto CEO. However, thanks to the resistance of the mother and intervention from bystanders, the kidnapping was thwarted.

You Might Be Interested In: Elon Musk Talks About the Name of a New Memecoin!

While the girl is reportedly unharmed, her mother suffered severe blood loss and is currently receiving treatment. One of the attackers dropped his weapon, which a nearby citizen picked up and used to defend against the assailants — likely saving lives in the process.

Third Attack in France: Crypto Wealth Under Siege

This is now the third crypto-related kidnapping attempt in France within just a few months. Earlier this year, the CEO of Ledger, a leading hardware wallet company, was abducted and had his finger severed in a gruesome ransom plot.

Why Are Crypto Millionaires Always the Target?

Despite crypto billionaires not ranking high on global wealth lists, they are often in the spotlight due to their online presence and lifestyle. In contrast, traditional “old money” wealth tends to avoid attention, staying out of the public eye.

This visibility makes crypto figures prime targets for organized crime, especially since digital assets offer little physical protection. Experts warn that personal security should become a top priority for public crypto figures.

Tangem, a crypto wallet maker focused on crypto self-custody, has received official approval from the US patent office for its private key backup and transfer technology. The patent, granted on January 28, covers a method that allows users to securely back up their private keys and transfer them between different devices.

Secure Transfer of Private Keys

Tangem’s new technology allows private keys to be transferred securely even over a smartphone or an untrusted intermediate device. The patent is entitled “Systems and methods for transferring confidential data through an untrusted intermediate device”.

The technology allows users to make encrypted and secure backups without the need to manually store their private keys. Advanced cryptography techniques such as the Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) encryption protocol are used to securely exchange the private key between two trusted devices.

Why Tangem’s Private Key Backup Solution Matters

Self-custody allows users to manage their crypto assets without depending on third parties. However, the loss or theft of private keys is a common risk. The technology developed by Tangem allows users to enjoy the benefits of self-storage without directly storing their keys.

Main features of the technology:

Seedless (Keywordless) Backup

End-to-End Encryption

Secure Transmission over Untrusted Intermediate Devices

Tamper Resistant Authentication

This innovation allows users to securely store private keys without the need to manually note them down or depend on physical backup devices.

Criticisms of Private Key Backups

Private key backup systems have always been a controversial topic in the crypto community. Adopting the “if you don’t own your keys, you don’t own the coins” mentality, many investors argue that only they should keep their private keys.

For example, Ledger faced a huge backlash when it announced a cloud-based private key recovery system in 2023. Similarly, at the end of 2024, Tangem leaked some users’ private keys via email due to a security flaw. The company announced that this was due to a bug in their mobile app and that the issue had been fully fixed.

This criticism of private key backup has led some traders to still prefer traditional methods such as fire-resistant metal plates or Shamir Backup.

Ledger Flex is a new cold wallet model equipped with a touchscreen, designed to securely store your crypto assets. Unlike previous models that required physical buttons, which often resulted in time-consuming and challenging operations, the Flex model eliminates these issues, offering a user-friendly experience.

Differences Between Exchange Platforms and Cold Wallets

The methods of storing your crypto assets are broadly divided into two. On exchange platforms, your assets are held on exchanges. You do not have full control over these assets. In cold wallets, your private keys are completely under your control and stored offline. Ledger Flex is one of the secure solutions among cold wallets.

What’s in the Ledger Flex Box?

When you open the box of the product, Ledger Flex device, Recovery Sheet where you can save your private keywords, Type-C to Type-C connection cable and user manuals welcome you.

Verify that the device’s software is genuine and up-to-date using your phone. Approve any necessary updates to complete the process.

At this stage, your device has been paired with your phone, and all required updates are complete. Now, let’s move on to the exciting part—setting up your device. Follow these steps:

Assign a name to your device using the Set name option, then confirm it by selecting Confirm name.

Create a PIN code between 4 and 8 characters to unlock your Flex device.

Choose Set up as a new Ledger for a fresh setup.

This next step is perhaps the most critical. Write down the 24-word recovery phrase shown on the screen in a secure location. Do not store it digitally, take photos of it, or divide it into parts. Ensure it is protected against theft, hacking, fire, and water damage. Your recovery phrase grants access to your assets. If it is lost or compromised, your assets could be at risk.

After recording the words, select them in the correct order on your Flex device to finalize the setup.

Ledger Flex is an innovative wallet designed for the secure storage of your crypto assets, standing out with its touchscreen and ease of use. In the crypto world, security is paramount, and Ledger Flex offers an exceptional experience for its users. If you encounter any difficulties during the setup process, feel free to ask in the comments!

XRP Ledger has made a significant update to its reserve requirements to simplify new users’ participation in the network. Effective December 2, 2024, the base reserve amount required to open a wallet has been reduced by 90%, from 10 XRP to 1 XRP. This update aims to lower entry costs for users while accelerating network adoption.

Purpose of the Reserve System

The previous reserve system of XRP Ledger was designed to prevent the network from being overloaded by spam accounts or malicious actors. Opening a wallet previously required 10 XRP, with an additional 2 XRP for each object (e.g., NFTs, trust lines). However, this high reserve rate posed a barrier for small investors, slowing the pace of network adoption. The new rules reduce the base reserve to 1 XRP and the object reserve to 0.2 XRP per item.

Technical and Economic Implications for the Ecosystem

While the reserve adjustment has the potential to increase network activity, it also poses challenges for the ledger’s storage capacity. Wietse Wind from XRPL Labs acknowledged that lower reserve requirements could boost transaction volumes, potentially stressing the infrastructure. However, he noted that such growth would occur as the network expands, and developers could implement suitable solutions to address these issues.

This update was implemented with the overwhelming approval of XRP Ledger validators. Initially tested on October 16, 2024, the change was fully activated on December 2. It is seen not just as a technical upgrade but as a strategic move to encourage community engagement.

XRP Market Performance

The reserve reduction coincides with a period of rising market value for XRP. Toward the end of 2024, XRP reached its highest levels since 2018, drawing significant investor attention. The updated reserve requirements aim to lower the entry barrier for investors while increasing network activity.

These developments unfold amid Ripple Labs’ ongoing legal battle with the SEC, which fined the company $125 million, claiming XRP is a security. While Ripple has appealed the decision, XRP continues to grow with the support of its community, as demonstrated by this reserve update.

Broader Access for Small Investors

The update facilitates participation by smaller investors, making XRP Ledger more accessible to a wider audience. It not only reduces costs but also allows users greater flexibility with their funds, which were previously locked in reserves.

This move is viewed as a significant step toward broader blockchain adoption. Along with increased transaction volumes and growing user interest, the reserve update highlights XRP Ledger’s innovative approach to fostering a more inclusive network.

Crypto phishing scammers are reportedly impersonating Coinbase support and leveraging leaked data to target high-ranking crypto executives and software engineers. These scammers claim to earn five-figure weekly profits, with one scammer stating, “We make at least five figures a week. Two days ago, we made $35,000. There’s a reason we do this — because there’s money here.”

Nick Neuman, CEO of Casa, recently had a conversation with a scammer and shared insights on November 20 via X (formerly Twitter). The scammer described a process involving phishing notifications that falsely claim a password change request has been canceled, prompting the victim to click on a malicious link.

The scammer revealed that their targets are primarily CEOs, CFOs, and software engineers, adding, “We don’t call poor people. Our data shows a minimum of $50,000 in holdings.” They also admitted that many targets’ information is sourced from databases belonging to companies like Unchained Capital.

Phishing Tactics and Techniques

The ultimate goal is not to steal passwords but to convince victims to transfer funds into wallets controlled by the scammers. To launder stolen crypto, they use tools like Tornado Cash and convert funds into privacy-focused cryptocurrencies like Monero (XMR).

The scammer also pointed out that accessing company databases is “too easy,” comparing the crypto space to the “Wild West.” For cashing out, they avoid KYC-compliant exchanges and prefer tools like hardware wallets (e.g., Ledger).

Rising Crypto Phishing Attacks

According to Web3 security firm Scam Sniffer, crypto phishing scams resulted in over $127 million in stolen funds during Q3 2024.
