The RGB protocol leverages Bitcoin’s UTXO model to enable off-chain smart contracts and asset issuance, making Bitcoin more scalable and functional. The LIGHT token serves as an RGB-20 asset, and the project aims to expand the BitcoinFi (Bitcoin-based DeFi) ecosystem. As of September 2025, Bitlight has a market cap of $7M and is preparing for listings on Binance Alpha and Futures, with its TGE (Token Generation Event) scheduled for September 27, 2025.

Bitlight combines the RGB protocol with the Lightning Network to enable off-chain smart contracts and fast payments on Bitcoin.

RGB Protocol: Uses Bitcoin’s UTXO model; smart contracts (via AluVM) operate off-chain, with settlement secured on-chain. This increases scalability (high throughput, low fees).

Lightning Integration (RLN): RGB assets (e.g., stablecoins) are transacted over Lightning channels. Asset-aware routing enables real-time settlement with channel operations aware of asset types.

LIGHT Token: RGB-20 token imported, minted, and transferred via Bitlight Wallet. Non-custodial design ensures sovereign control over Bitcoin/RGB assets.

Applications: Stablecoin payments, asset issuance (custom RGB assets), and DeFi (lending, trading). Example: a stablecoin moves instantly and cheaply over Lightning while RGB contracts enforce smart rules.

The prominent stablecoin provider in the cryptocurrency world, Tether, is taking steps to make its most widely used stablecoin, USDT, available on the Bitcoin blockchain and Lightning Network. This development is part of the company’s strategy to increase the accessibility of crypto payments across major devices and networks.

Tether’s Bitcoin integration is made possible through the Taproot Assets protocol, developed by Lightning Labs. This protocol allows digital assets to be issued on the Bitcoin mainchain and transferred quickly via the Lightning Network. As a result, the use of USDT in Bitcoin-supported payment systems will be efficiently enabled.

Innovation in payment systems: Stores and digital service providers will be able to accept USDT using existing Lightning payment infrastructure — providing significant flexibility for stablecoin payment models.

Entry into the Bitcoin ecosystem will further solidify Tether’s leadership in the stablecoin market.

Technical Infrastructure and Strategy

According to Cointelegraph, through Tether’s Wallet Development Kit (WDK), developers will be able to create self-custodial wallets supporting both USDT and Bitcoin payments. Additionally, supported by the Tether AI platform, this system is designed to operate fully open-source and peer-to-peer (P2P) without any centralized control points.

What is Bitcoin Pizza Day?

On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two pizzas for 10,000 BTC. At the time, these BTC were worth just $40. However, today, that amount exceeds $1 billion. In 2025, BTC prices reached as high as $111,800, highlighting its remarkable value increase.

Key Milestones in Bitcoin’s History

BTC hit a value of $1 for the first time, beginning to attract attention.

BTC Surge to $20,000 and Beyond (2017)
BTC soared to $20,000 by the end of 2017. However, it later plummeted to $3,200 within the year, serving as a significant warning for investors.

Major companies like Tesla and MicroStrategy began purchasing BTC, signaling its acceptance in the corporate world.

Bitcoin Pizza Day represents the first real-world use of BTC. Additionally, events like the Mt. Gox hack and the 2017 price crash are critical milestones in BTC journey. These developments demonstrate that BTC continues to grow in the financial world. In 2015, the Bitcoin network was introduced to the Lightning Network concept, aiming to enable microtransactions and improve scalability. In 2021, El Salvador became the first country to adopt BTC as legal tender, marking a historic state-level adoption. In 2022, the use of cryptocurrencies expanded with NFT and DeFi projects. In 2023, several countries began testing central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). All these developments prove that BTC is not just an investment vehicle but a global digital financial system.

JPMorgan, one of the leading banks in the U.S. and worldwide, believes Bitcoin will maintain its dominance over Ethereum and other altcoins in 2025. Bank analysts have outlined 8 key reasons supporting this strong expectation. Here are the details!

Why Will Bitcoin Maintain Its Leadership?

In recent years, Bitcoin has gained significant momentum, particularly following ETF approvals, sparking ongoing debates among altcoin investors. However, JPMorgan analysts, led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, addressed this topic decisively in their report, stating that Bitcoin’s dominance will continue.

JPMorgan emphasizes 8 primary factors that reinforce Bitcoin’s dominance. The first is the devaluation of local currencies, which drives both individuals and institutions to seek safer, supply-limited assets. Gold and Bitcoin are the most popular options in this category. Investors looking to hedge against devaluation view Bitcoin as a secure haven.

Another critical factor is MicroStrategy’s massive Bitcoin purchase plan. The company has only achieved half of its $42 billion acquisition target and, according to analysts, will continue aggressive purchases this year. This is expected to increase Bitcoin demand and elevate its price.

The report also highlights countries planning to add Bitcoin to their reserves. Notably, the U.S. and other major countries adding Bitcoin to their reserves could trigger significant price increases this year.

Bitcoin’s Lightning Network and other second-layer solutions are also taking the leading cryptocurrency to a new level. These networks not only make Bitcoin a store of value but also position it as a competitor to Ethereum and similar platforms. Bitcoin’s support for smart contracts is expected to expand its use cases.

In the corporate world, another notable trend is the shift of transaction settlements and digital bond trading to private or consortium blockchains. While this reduces interest in open networks like Ethereum, demand for Bitcoin’s network is projected to remain steady.

Moreover, the focus of new projects is changing. Many are now prioritizing infrastructure development over token issuance. This strategic shift strengthens Bitcoin’s position while paving the way for innovation rooted in infrastructure.

The report also points to the decline of decentralized projects. Platforms like Friend.tech, Farcaster, and Lens have yet to achieve widespread adoption. Analysts believe these projects need more time for broader acceptance.

Finally, the report underscores the uncertainty surrounding potential positive regulations in the U.S. While such regulations are expected to benefit Bitcoin, their impact on altcoins remains unclear. This regulatory shift is anticipated to further solidify Bitcoin’s leadership.

These 8 key reasons clearly illustrate why Bitcoin will retain its dominance in 2025. For altcoins to challenge this narrative, more time and robust strategies will be essential.

Ark Labs, a new company focused on developing a self-custodial Bitcoin Layer 2 payments network, officially launched on Tuesday. This network leverages the Ark protocol, aiming to simplify Bitcoin payments while maintaining user control over funds.

While acknowledging the benefits of the Lightning Network (LN) in enabling faster and cheaper Bitcoin transactions, Ark Labs highlights the need for channel management and liquidity as a barrier to entry. This often pushes users towards custodial LN wallets, sacrificing self-custody for convenience.

The Ark Protocol: A Simplified Layer 2 Solution

Proposed in 2023, the Ark protocol offers an alternative Layer 2 scaling solution for Bitcoin. It operates alongside the Lightning Network, aiming to provide a more user-friendly experience while preserving self-custody.

Unlike the Lightning Network, users within the Ark ecosystem don’t require managing payment channels or inbound/outbound liquidity. Additionally, setting up personal nodes becomes unnecessary. Transactions can be sent and received using just a light wallet on a smartphone, according to the Ark Labs team.

How Ark Works

The Ark network relies on Ark Service Providers (ASPs) that users connect to through Ark-compatible wallets. ASPs function as trustless servers. Upon receiving a deposit, they issue “virtual transactions” to users. These virtual transactions can be:

Transferred at minimal cost between users within the same ASP.

Sent to users on different ASPs via the Lightning Network.

Redeemed directly on the Bitcoin blockchain at any time.

“By enabling on-chain redemption, users retain full control over their funds even if their chosen ASP goes offline,” the Ark Labs team emphasizes. ASPs have the ability to collect transaction fees from users making payments within the Ark layer.

Open-Source Development and Commercial Applications

Ark Labs operates under the leadership of experienced Bitcoin developers and receives funding through a grant from bitcoin-native financial services firm Vulpem Ventures. The company will manage an open-source implementation of the Ark protocol, allowing anyone to build ASPs or Ark-enabled wallets.

Several commercial services leveraging the Ark protocol are already under development by Ark Labs, with the first expected to launch later in 2024.

“It’s evident that Bitcoin needs more scaling solutions,” said Cory Klippsten, CEO of Swan Bitcoin and an advisor to Ark Labs. “We’re constantly evaluating new technologies that can improve our Bitcoin services, and Ark is at the forefront. We’re excited to explore ways to integrate Ark to offer users more options for efficient deposits, withdrawals, and payments.”

Bitcoin Lightning Network Vulnerability Issue! Famous Bitcoin and Lightning Network developer Antoine Riard, announced via an email visible to everyone that he will no longer work on the Lightning project and explained the reason for this decision.

Riard reported that he discovered a new type of attack on the Lightning project, a second layer solution targeting low-cost and fast transactions on Bitcoin.

This type of attack, called “relayed loop attacks,” involves the manipulation of payments on the Lightning Network where honest transactions should be made by malicious actors. This situation may lead to either a loss of funds or a loss of service for network users.

Riard emphasized that he followed a responsible notification process and reported the issue to senior Lightning developers. However, at the same time, he warned that a sustainable solution to such a problem would only be possible at Bitcoin’s base layer. This could require consensus updates or a significant change in full node transaction requirements.

You might like: Michael Saylor : Bitcoin is Stronger!

Riard stated that he faced a tough dilemma between explaining why such changes are necessary for Lightning’s future and unearthing critical attacks targeting this network containing more than 5,000 BTC. He also stated that he would no longer work on it due to the Bitcoin Lightning Network Vulnerability.

As a result, Riard announced that he will cease development of the Lightning Network and related applications and focus more on the Bitcoin Core, the main software client for Bitcoin.

The Lightning Network is like a power-up for Bitcoin that enhances its speed and affordability. It’s a smart solution to fix Bitcoin’s issues by introducing off-chain transactions. These transactions occur through channels between two parties.

You might like it: What’s Polygon (MATIC)?

To address the issues of slow transactions and excessive energy usage, developers created additional layers for cryptocurrencies. The primary layer is the main blockchain and further layers build upon it, adding function. The Lightning Network can also handle off-chain transactions between different cryptocurrencies.

Here is the point you should remember:

The Lightning Network solves the problem of slow transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain by enabling off-chain transactions.

Similar to the main blockchain, the Lightning Network eliminates the need for a middleman, such as a bank, that currently handles most transactions.

Joseph Poon and Thaddeus Dryja were the first to propose the Lightning Network in a 2016 paper.

There are concerns regarding the Lightning Network:

It may lead to a replication of the financial systems. In the current model, banks and financial institutions act as intermediaries for all transactions.

Other concerns include fraud, fees, hacks, and price volatility.

In conclusion, the Lightning Network presents a promising solution to enhance the speed and scalability of Bitcoin transactions.
