As of July 30, the Polygon network is facing a major disruption. No new blocks have been produced on the network for more than two hours, raising concerns among blockchain users and developers.

What Happened on the Polygon Network?

The last block was generated approximately two hours ago.

Since then, the network has failed to produce any new blocks.

There is no official explanation yet regarding the cause of the interruption.

According to data from blockchain explorers, block production on the Polygon chain has completely stalled. Initial speculation points toward a possible system-wide crash.

Why It Matters

Polygon is one of the leading Layer-2 solutions compatible with Ethereum, known for offering high speed and low transaction fees. As a result, such a network halt could cause delays and disruptions across multiple platforms — from DeFi protocols to NFT marketplaces.

This type of disruption is not only a technical issue but also a significant trust concern for both investors and developers. As one of the most prominent altcoin ecosystems, Polygon is expected to address this issue transparently and swiftly.

Ongoing Investigation

So far, no technical explanation has been provided. Neither the Polygon team nor its official social media channels have shared detailed updates. However, the community is closely monitoring the situation and actively sharing insights through forums and social platforms.

System-wide halts like this could stem from internal infrastructure failures or extended maintenance tasks that exceed their planned durations. Still, possibilities such as a hard fork, malicious attack, or unforeseen upgrade complications are also being considered.

Binance has announced that it will offer support for the native USD Coin (USDC) on the Polygon network, issued by Circle. Also deposits and withdrawals will be opened soon and a separate announcement will be made regarding these.

The bridged version, i.e., USD Coin (PoS) (USDC.e), already supported by Binance, will be represented as the MATICUSDCE symbol on Binance.

Also:

As of 2023-10-25 06:00 (UTC), Binance will suspend deposits and withdrawals of the existing USDC on the Polygon network.

USDC spot transactions, margin transactions, futures transactions, Binance Earn and Binance Pay services will not be affected.

Additionally the bridged USD Coin (PoS) (USDC.e) tokens will be adopted on Binance as MATICUSDCE. So the deposit and withdrawal operations of MATICUSDCE will continue to be supported.

A separate announcement will be made when the deposits and withdrawals of the Native USD Coin (USDC) are opened.

Google Cloud, will join the validators in the Polygon blockchain network and will have a say for Polygon .

According to recent developments, Google Cloud, will be part of a decentralized group of over a hundred validators to ensure the security of the Polygon network.

Validators in the Polygon network strive to ensure the security of the network by running nodes, staking MATIC, and participating in the proof of stake consensus mechanism.

Google Cloud, in addition to confirming its collaboration with the Polygon network via its official account, also published a video containing details about the collaboration.

This month, @GoogleCloud became part of the decentralized validator set for Polygon PoS.

The same infrastructure used to power @YouTube and @gmail is now helping to secure the fast, low-cost, Ethereum-for-all Polygon protocol.

With 100+ validators securing the Polygon PoS…

— Polygon (Labs) (@0xPolygonLabs) September 29, 2023

It is very pleasing and essential that the Google Cloud’s power, which powers widely used platforms such as YouTube and Gmail, takes such a significant step for the crypto sector.

This collaboration not only contributes to efforts to secure the Polygon network but is also a promising step towards the future of the crypto sector.

Despite the ongoing downturn in the crypto market and regulatory pressure from the US government, the relationship between Google Cloud’ and Polygon Labs is emerging as an indicator of the company’s increasing interest in Web3 from late 2022 to 2023.
