Arthur Hayes, widely known for his bold market commentary and macro-driven investment outlook, has disclosed the current composition of his portfolio. While he has historically been associated with aggressive altcoin exposure, his latest allocation shows a far more concentrated approach—particularly in crypto.

What Does Hayes Hold in His Crypto Portfolio?

According to his recent statement, Hayes currently holds four cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ether, Zcash, and HYPE. For an investor previously recognized for broad altcoin exposure—including speculative segments such as meme tokens—this streamlined selection marks a notable shift.

Of the four, only Zcash and HYPE fall outside the two largest digital assets by market capitalization. The absence of a wider basket of alternative tokens suggests a more selective stance in the current market cycle. This repositioning may reflect a recalibration of risk amid evolving liquidity conditions and macroeconomic uncertainty.

Hayes is also a co-founder of the Maelström fund, which has previously taken sizable positions across various altcoin sectors. In contrast, his present holdings indicate a tighter and more deliberate crypto strategy.

Exposure Beyond Digital Assets

The portfolio is not limited to cryptocurrencies. Hayes outlined allocations to equities, mining companies focused on gold, silver, and copper, major oil producers, and energy firms operating in Latin America. He also referenced defense industry companies—described in his own words as “merchants of death”—indicating exposure to large-scale military and defense contractors.

In addition, he confirmed ownership of physical gold. This detail reinforces a broader macro thesis centered on hard assets and inflation resilience.

No Cash Position, Focus on Productive Assets

Another striking aspect of Hayes’ allocation is the absence of cash. He has previously noted that U.S. Treasury holdings can provide passive income sufficient to cover expenses. Rather than holding idle liquidity, his approach appears oriented toward income-generating or store-of-value assets.

Overall, the structure of his portfolio reflects a macro-conscious framework: limited but high-conviction crypto exposure combined with commodities, energy, and defensive equities. The reduced number of digital assets suggests heightened selectivity rather than retreat, signaling a disciplined approach in uncertain market conditions.

In the fast-paced world of cryptocurrencies, accessing accurate and reliable data is crucial for investors. CoinGecko stands out as a leading platform for crypto data aggregation, offering a wealth of information for both beginners and seasoned traders. From cryptocurrency prices to market insights and NFT tracking, CoinGecko serves as a go-to resource for navigating the crypto space. In this guide, we’ll explore what CoinGecko is and how to make the most of its features.

What Is CoinGecko?

Founded in 2014 by TM Lee and Bobby Ong, CoinGecko is a Singapore-based crypto data platform that tracks over 17,000 digital assets and more than 1,000 exchanges worldwide. It provides real-time market data, including prices, market capitalization, trading volumes, and other key metrics. Beyond cryptocurrencies, CoinGecko also offers insights into NFTs and DeFi (Decentralized Finance) projects. With its intuitive interface and robust analytics, it’s an essential tool for investors, developers, and enthusiasts alike.

One of CoinGecko’s key strengths is its ability to aggregate prices from multiple exchanges to deliver a global average, ensuring more accurate and unbiased data. Its Trust Score system further enhances reliability by evaluating exchanges based on liquidity, security, and transparency.

How to Use CoinGecko

CoinGecko’s features cater to a wide range of users, from novices to professional traders. Below is a breakdown of its main sections and tips for effective use:

1. Homepage: A Snapshot of the Crypto Market

The homepage is CoinGecko’s most visited section, attracting millions of users monthly. It displays the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, along with their current prices. You’ll also find an overview of the total crypto market cap and 24-hour trading volume, as well as trending coins and top gainers or losers.

Sort the table by 1-hour, 24-hour, or 7-day price changes to identify coins with significant recent movements. This is especially useful for spotting opportunities among low-cap coins by navigating through different pages.

2. Search Bar: Your Gateway to Discovery

The search bar is a powerful tool for quickly finding information on specific cryptocurrencies, NFTs, or categories. Search results include trending tokens, related articles, and GeckoTerminal charts, making it ideal for exploring new projects or staying updated on market trends.

3. Coin Pages: In-Depth Project Analysis

Each cryptocurrency has a dedicated page packed with essential data for research. Key sections include:

Market Data: Price, market cap, 24-hour trading volume, circulating supply, and maximum supply.

Project Details: Official website, social media links (Twitter, Discord, Telegram), blockchain explorer, and token contract addresses.

Price Charts: Historical price movements, market cap trends, and TradingView integration for advanced analysis.

Related Coins: Category tags to discover similar projects.

4. Categories: Stay Ahead of Market Trends

CoinGecko organizes coins into popular categories like Meme, GameFi, and AI Agents. You can sort these categories by market cap, 24-hour volume, or price changes. Detailed charts also track the performance of subcategories, such as Solana-based meme coins, helping you identify trending narratives.

5. Exchanges: Assess Reliability and Liquidity

CoinGecko lists both centralized and decentralized exchanges, showing which coins are available for trading, along with their Trust Score and liquidity metrics. This helps you decide where to trade a specific coin. For instance, a coin not yet listed on major exchanges may signal high growth potential but also higher risk.

6. NFTs: Explore the World of Digital Collectibles

CoinGecko tracks NFT collections, including floor prices, market caps, and 24-hour sales volumes. The NFT Heatmap visualizes the market share of top collections, and users can filter by blockchain to discover trending NFTs.

7. Portfolio: Track Your Investments

The portfolio feature allows you to monitor your holdings or create watchlists. You can log real investments or simulate virtual trades to test profit-and-loss scenarios. Setting price alerts ensures you stay informed about significant market movements.

8. API for Developers

CoinGecko offers a robust API for developers, providing access to real-time prices, historical data, exchange information, and NFT floor prices. Used by platforms like Etherscan and MetaMask, the API supports the creation of trading bots, portfolio trackers, and market analysis tools. Both free and paid plans are available.

Advantages of CoinGecko
