This development, which has created excitement in the crypto world, has attracted the attention of investors. Binance Alpha is known as a platform that highlights early-stage projects. $PUFFER is the token of Puffer Finance, an Ethereum-based liquid restaking protocol. This listing has increased the project’s visibility. It is also known that Binance Labs invested in Puffer in 2024.

Following the listing, the $PUFFER price surged rapidly. According to PANewsCN, the token reached $0.4434, marking a 56.89% increase. It is currently trading around $0.29. Investors are closely monitoring the opportunities offered by the platform. Additionally, the $PUFFER token is traded on Gate.io, Bitget, Bybit, KuCoin, and Binance Alpha exchanges.

What is PUFFER and Why is it Important?

Puffer Finance is an innovative project in Ethereum’s decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. It offers a native liquid restaking protocol (nLRP). This system enhances Ethereum staking rewards and reduces risks for validators. In other words, Puffer strengthens decentralization using EigenLayer technology. The support from Binance Labs increases the project’s credibility.

Moreover, Puffer’s UniFi AVS and Based Rollup products offer innovative solutions that enhance Ethereum’s scalability and transaction speed.
Puffer Finance Announceded Airdrop

Puffer Finance, a re-staking protocol developed for the Ethereum network, launched the PUFFER token, which will be released to the market with a total supply of 1 billion.

The project also announced the airdrop with the launch of the PUFFER token and announced the details of the process. The airdrop demand period will start on October 14, 2024 and end on January 14, 2025. Initially, 102.3 million units of the total supply of 1 billion units will be on the market.

The airdrop distribution will be carried out in two stages, and the project team has stated the distribution of PUFFER tokens as follows:

40% for the ecosystem and community,

13% for airdrops,

1% for Ethereum core developers,

20% for early adopters and advisors,

26% for investors

In addition, based on the snapshot on October 1, 7.5% of the total supply (75 million tokens) will be allocated for the first season of the airdrop campaign called “Crunchy Carrot Quest” and 5.5% for the second season.

Might interest you: What is BabyDoge?

In addition to the PUFFER token, there will be another token called PUFFER, which provides a staking and voting mechanism. This token will be used to determine the voting power of users.

Puffer raised $18 million in a Series A funding round led by Brevan Howard Digital and Electric Capital in April. While important names such as Coinbase Ventures and Kraken Ventures also participated in this round, Puffer also received investment from Binance Labs in 2024.

Binance has apparently spun off its venture capital and incubation arm, Binance Labs, as an independent entity, according to information on its website.

A disclaimer on the site now states that “Binance Labs is an independent venture and not part of the Binance Group nor is it involved in any of the businesses operated by the Binance Group (including but not limited to the Binance cryptocurrency exchange).”

The change seems to have occurred sometime between Feb. 19 and Feb. 24, as per the Internet Archive.

Bloomberg first reported on Friday that the newly independent entity quietly cut ties with the broader Binance Group earlier this year, citing a spokesperson for the former unit. Binance Labs staff contracts are now separate from employees of the crypto exchange, similar to the structure of the Binance-backed BNB Chain project, the spokesperson added, but little will change operationally.

Binance has faced increased scrutiny since agreeing to pay more than $4 billion in fines to U.S. agencies in November — one of the largest corporate settlements in U.S. history.

Following this, Binance’s co-founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao stepped down from his position, having pleaded guilty to willfully violating the Bank Secrecy Act and is currently awaiting sentencing in the U.S.

Richard Teng, Binance’s former Global Head of Regional Markets, took over as CEO in the same month, with the spin-off being one of the significant changes under his tenure so far.

Binance Labs, led by fellow Binance co-founder Yi He, has invested in over 200 crypto projects since 2018, including Aptos Labs, LayerZero, Polygon, and The Sandbox, primarily funded by the crypto exchange’s profits — with its total assets valued at over $10 billion.

Last week, Binance Labs’ incubation season 6 concluded, with investments made in seven startups, including synthetic dollar protocol developer Ethena Labs and zkSync-based decentralized derivatives exchange Derivio. Its season 7 program is set to launch soon.

Binance Labs has recently increased its investment activity, backing Bitcoin staking protocol Babylon and Ethereum restaking protocols Renzo and Puffer Finance this year.

Last year, Binance Labs accepted its first external capital when it closed a $500 million fund. However, it later started sending undeployed capital back to Limited Partners over the summer.

Puffer Finance locked 850 million dolar in TVL and now becomes second largest liquid staking protocol operating on Ethereum.

In 13 Days, Puffer Finance Becomes Second Largest Liquid Staking Protocol on Ethereum

Since Puffer’s debut on February 1st, Puffer Finance has rapidly surged to secure a total value locked (TVL) of $850 million within its smart contracts. This achievement now positions it as the second-largest liquid restaking protocol operating on the Ethereum network.

Puffer Finance offers users the ability to deposit Ether and receive a liquid staking token in return, which earns yield from both ETH staking and restaking activities.

In its initial stages, Puffer Finance witnessed a TVL of $146 million on its launch day, as reported by DefiLlama. Within days, it surpassed competitors Renzo and Kelp DAO to secure its place among the top liquid restaking protocols. As of February 10th, it has reached the impressive milestone of $850 million in TVL, trailing slightly behind the market leader, ether.fi, which boasts a TVL of $1.04 billion – a figure that has been steadily climbing.

To drive adoption, Puffer Finance has implemented a five-stage points program, incentivizing users to deposit assets and engage with the platform. This strategy likely contributed to the surge in TVL. Points programs are becoming increasingly common in the industry, often serving as a precursor to potential airdrops, although such airdrops are typically not guaranteed.
