XChat is developed using the Rust programming language and employs a Bitcoin-like encryption architecture. This provides users with high-level digital security and privacy. Users protect their messages with a four-digit PIN and can set them to auto-delete after a certain period. Additionally, features such as file sharing and group chats are also available.

Currently in beta, XChat is available only to X Premium subscribers but is planned to be rolled out to all users in the future. This move is seen as part of Musk’s goal to turn the X platform into an “everything app.”  

All new XChat is rolling out with encryption, vanishing messages and the ability to send any kind of file. Also, audio/video calling.

This is built on Rust with (Bitcoin style) encryption, whole new architecture.

Elon Musk’s Competition and Future Plans  

Musk aims to directly compete with popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. The phone number-free communication feature emphasizes a privacy-first approach.  

Meanwhile, Musk’s AI company xAI plans to integrate with Telegram’s Grok platform through a $300 million deal. However, Musk stated that no agreement has been signed for xAI integration with Telegram Messenger beyond XChat. This statement highlights that XChat is an independent initiative and Musk intends to develop the X platform within its own ecosystem.
