XRP price increased by 12%, despite the overall uncertainty in the crypto market. According to crypto analysis firm Santiment, this surge is driven by whales accumulating large volumes of XRP and speculation about a potential ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund) listing in the US. Additionally, the optimism surrounding Donald Trump’s upcoming presidential inauguration is also fueling the market sentiment.

XRP’s Surge and Whale Accumulation

Santiment reported that XRP reached $2.69 on January 14, 2024, its highest level since December 17, 2024. By the time the article was published, XRP had surged further to $2.83, a level not seen since early 2018.

Santiment highlighted that XRP whales, particularly those holding between 1 million and 10 million XRP tokens, have accumulated a total of 1.43 billion XRP since November 12, 2024. This accumulation represents a 37.4% increase.

XRP ETF Speculation

Derive’s Head of Research Sean Dawson mentioned that XRP‘s strong momentum is likely driven by the expectation of a potential XRP ETF listing in 2025. With strong purchases of Bitcoin, investors may rotate their capital into alternative coins like XRP, further boosting the bullish sentiment around it.

It is speculated that XRP’s legal battle with the SEC could conclude in favor of XRP this year. Dawson stated that while the SEC may appeal the decision, the “pro-crypto” stance in the White House could influence SEC appointments and provide more support for the crypto market.

JPMorgan’s XRP and SOL Predictions

Billion-dollar bank JPMorgan predicts that Solana (SOL) and XRP ETPs (Exchange-Traded Products) will outperform Ether (ETH) ETFs in the first six months. According to JPMorgan‘s report, SOL is expected to attract between $3 billion and $6 billion in net assets, while XRP is expected to gather between $4 billion and $8 billion in new assets.

Though the organization has not formally confirmed these intentions, speculation is mounting that Polymarket, a prediction market platform, may release its own cryptocurrency and maybe organize an airdrop event. This speculating has been stoked by the increase in trade volume, particularly during the US election season. Active boosting their trading volumes in hopes of being rewarded in a possible airdrop, traders often referred to as “volume farmers,”

Earlier this year Polymarket secured $70 million in Series B money, implying that the future expansion plan of the platform may be connected to a token launch. Since the network does not yet charge transaction fees, the creation of a token might provide a means of income or feature enhancement.

Prominent Polymarket users think a token may be introduced some time next year, maybe after the U.S. presidential election. These users warn, meantime, that the token release may be restricted and that more cash raising than token distribution should take front stage.

In essence, even if there is a lot of conjecture about a token launch, Polymarket has not released any official statement on a token release or airdrop, therefore keeping the timeframe and specifics unknown for now.

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has been spotted moving around $240 million worth of Bitcoin to an unknown address. This has raised eyebrows in the crypto community, with many speculating about the reasons behind the transfer.

On-chain data shows that Binance transferred approximately 240 million Bitcoin (BTC) to an unknown wallet on June 19, 2024. The transaction value is worth around $240 million at current market prices.

Possible Reasons:

There are several possible explanations for this large Bitcoin transfer:

Large Investor Withdrawal: It is possible that this transfer represents a single large withdrawal from a Binance customer. This could be due to a variety of factors, such as concerns about market volatility, regulatory changes, or personal investment decisions.

Internal Binance Transfer: Binance may also have transferred the funds for internal operational or security purposes. For instance, they could be moving funds between different company wallets or implementing new security measures.

Market Manipulation: Some have speculated that the transfer could be an attempt to manipulate the Bitcoin market. However, there is no evidence to support this claim at this time.

The transfer has had a noticeable impact on the Bitcoin market. The price of Bitcoin dipped slightly following the news, but has since recovered. It is still too early to say what the long-term impact of this transfer will be.

According to data shared by on-chain analysis platform Lookonchain, a crypto investor stood out with their purchase made before Elon Musk’s Dogecoin and Harambe tweet.

On May 24, Elon Musk commemorated the death of Doge’s official mascot, the Shiba Inu dog, alongside a Harambe meme. Following Musk’s tweet, both DOGE and HARAMBE prices experienced an increase.

Around 1 day before this tweet, an anonymous investor withdrew 661 Solana (SOL) worth $116,000 from Binance and purchased 1.94 million HARAMBE.

The investor quickly made a profit of around $200,000 following Musk’s tweet. Some social media users speculated that this wallet might belong to Musk or someone connected to him.

Synthetix founder Kain Warwick has argued that meme coins play a valuable role in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Warwick emphasized that meme coins, through speculation, can drive interest and investment in DeFi.

Warwick countered criticisms that meme coins are “pure speculation” by asserting that “speculation is good and valuable.” He noted that the ecosystems formed around meme coins contribute to the development of DeFi infrastructure.

Warwick pointed out that retail investors find meme coins more engaging compared to complex DeFi protocols, and this leads to their involvement in DeFi. “Financial engineering is not that interesting,” he said. “There aren’t that many people who find it deeply interesting.”

The Synthetix founder maintained that meme coins are “quite useful” in attracting new investors to DeFi and bringing the space to a wider audience.
