CryptoQuant, a cryptocurrency analysis firm, suggested that whales might be preparing to enter an unexpected altcoin.

Whale Activity Expected for The Open Network (TON)

CryptoQuant shared its latest analysis of The Open Network (TON) in its recent report. The firm suggests that TON’s sharp decline in recent times could present opportunities for large investors (whales).

Decline in TVL: Investors Exiting Positions

According to the report, TON has experienced a significant drop in Total Value Locked (TVL) across decentralized exchanges (DEXs), centralized exchanges (CEXs), derivatives, and options markets. This indicates that investors have been liquidating their assets and generally reducing their exposure by avoiding market downturns. However, CryptoQuant suggests that this decline could be used as an opportunity for whales to accumulate assets.

Whales Tend to Move Based on Investor Sentiment

Looking at historical data, it’s evident that large investors tend to buy when market sentiment is at its lowest, during capitulation periods. During these times, whales often view negative market conditions as an opportunity to accumulate assets. CryptoQuant suggests that such actions may have the potential to trigger a future price rebound.

Staking TVL Ratio: A Sign of Investor Confidence

CryptoQuant notes that the ratio of Total Value Locked (TVL) allocated to staking has begun to rise again. Despite selling pressure in the markets, this indicates that a portion of investors still have long-term confidence in TON and prefer staking over selling their assets. This suggests that investor confidence remains strong and could potentially signal the beginning of a recovery phase.

Summary: A New Recovery May Be Underway

According to CryptoQuant’s report, the decline in TON and the subsequent rise in staking show that market investors have not lost their trust and that whales are looking for opportunities to make purchases. This could mean that price recoveries may occur in the coming days, with investors continuing to follow long-term strategies.

Telegram will exclusively support Toncoin and the TON network for its apps and services following a new partnership.

Telegram Will Only Support TON Network and Toncoin

According to a statement shared on January 21, Telegram will discontinue support for all other blockchains and cryptocurrencies, including its messaging services and Mini Apps, and will exclusively continue with The Open Network (TON).

As part of a new partnership between Telegram and the TON Foundation, TON will become the exclusive blockchain infrastructure for Telegram’s Mini App ecosystem.

The statement also noted that Telegram will continue to accept only Toncoin for non-fiat payments in exchange for assets and services offered by Telegram.

The new partnership strengthens Telegram’s ongoing support for TON as its preferred blockchain network for Web3 infrastructure, stemming from the close collaboration between Telegram and the TON Foundation.

Deepening Ties Between TON and Telegram

The TON Foundation stated that Telegram’s TON features have played a significant role in the network’s growth through updates to Mini Apps, the use of TON for pay-ins and payouts, and its advertising platform.

“The new exclusivity agreement deepens the technological ties between TON and Telegram,” the announcement said.

As part of the partnership, Telegram will continue to accept TON as the only token for payments made for Telegram services such as Telegram Stars, Telegram Premium, Telegram Ads, and Telegram Gateway, an alternative platform to traditional SMS verification.

Additionally, Toncoin will be the only currency used to pay Telegram Mini App developers and channel owners for their earned Telegram Stars and advertisement revenue.

TON Connect, Exclusive Protocol for Linking Telegram Mini Apps to Blockchain Wallets

A spokesperson for the TON Foundation said, “Many builders chose to deploy on TON before, but some added blockchain functionality through other networks instead.”

The representative mentioned Mini App launches on networks like Sui, Solana, Aptos, and others, adding:

“The expanded partnership will make TON Connect the exclusive protocol for linking Telegram Mini Apps to blockchain wallets — so Mini Apps will now only be able to deploy blockchain functionality on TON.”

Manuel Stotz, the new president of the TON Foundation, emphasized the importance of the exclusive partnership with Telegram as a significant step in its roadmap.

“After laying foundational groundwork over the last years, TON is now ready for explosive growth in 2025,” he said, adding:

“Telegram is the sixth most downloaded app in the world, a beacon for free speech, and the default messaging platform for the global blockchain community. No other blockchain has a comparable distribution vector.”

The year 2024 drew attention with the integration of Blockchain with DeSci (Decentralized Science), Artificial Intelligence, Meme Coins and Telegram bots.

2024 became a year where the strong integration of Blockchain with DeSci, artificial intelligence, Telegram bots, and meme coins stood out. DeSci made science more transparent and decentralized, while the combination of artificial intelligence and blockchain introduced innovations in automation and data security. Telegram bots provided new use cases in gaming and finance, while meme coins, by combining community-driven projects with pop culture, brought a fun breath to the crypto world.

These developments highlighted the future potential of blockchain.

2024 Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Integration

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain gained significant momentum in 2024 as two complementary technologies. The speed and accuracy of AI in data analysis, when combined with Blockchain’s transparency and security features, has led to the creation of more efficient and reliable systems.

This integration presents significant opportunities, particularly in financial services, healthcare, and supply chain management. AI algorithms optimize data transactions conducted over Blockchain, enabling smarter decision-making processes.

In 2024, several prominent AI projects made significant strides in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) with blockchain technology. Here are some notable examples:

NEAR: Launched in 2020, NEAR is a blockchain platform supporting dApp development with high transaction volume and low fees. In 2024, it integrated AI, introducing an open-source AI model with 1.4 trillion parameters and the NEAR Intents feature. With a market cap of $6.7 billion, it leads among AI-powered crypto projects.

Fetch.ai: The Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) Alliance was founded in 2024 by Fetch.ai, SingularityNET, and Ocean Protocol, aiming to develop decentralized AGI and ASI. The FET, AGIX, and OCEAN tokens will be merged to create the ASI token. Fetch.ai, with a market cap of $3.3 billion, is among the top 50 cryptocurrencies.

Arkham: This blockchain analysis platform enhances transparency by de-anonymizing blockchain transactions. Using AI, it links blockchain addresses to real-world assets. The ARKM token provides access to platform services and is used on Intel Exchange. Launched in 2023, it reached a market cap of $626 million with a token price of $1.99 in 2024.

io.net: A decentralized network providing cost-effective GPU power for AI and machine learning (ML) applications. In 2024, it partnered with Zero1 Labs and secured $30 million in investment, reaching a $1 billion valuation. The IO token facilitates transactions within the ecosystem.

Render: A decentralized GPU rendering platform that collaborated with Stability AI and OTOY in 2024 to develop AI-driven rendering services. The RENDER token facilitates transactions and rewards GPU providers. By November 2024, it reached a market cap of $4.1 billion.

These projects highlight the growing intersection of AI and blockchain, showcasing their potential to transform various industries with decentralized, secure, and efficient solutions.

Another Trend of 2024 Is Telegram Bots

Telegram, with millions of users worldwide, continued to host Blockchain projects in 2024. Telegram bots have become tools that provide users with easy access to Blockchain applications.

In 2024, “tap-to-earn” games on Telegram allowed users to earn cryptocurrency by actively playing. Notable games included Notcoin, Hamster Kombat, and Catizen, offering opportunities to earn tokens such as $NOT, $DOGS, $HMSTR, and $CATI. These games operated on various blockchain networks, including The Open Network (TON) and Solana, facilitating token integration and decentralized transactions.

As this trend gained popularity, major cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance, OKX, Bitget, and KuCoin also joined in.

The Memecoin Frenzy That Shaped 2024

Memecoins are cryptocurrencies inspired by internet memes, with Dogecoin being the pioneer in this space. Created as a joke in 2013, Dogecoin quickly transformed into a serious investment asset with the support of its community. The influence of social media, especially by celebrities like Elon Musk, led to the rapid rise of Dogecoin and other coins like Shiba Inu (SHIB).

Meme coins represent the fun side of the cryptocurrency market while highlighting the impact of community movements and popular culture on financial markets.

According to a CoinGecko study, meme coins have captured nearly a third of investor interest in the cryptocurrency space this year, becoming one of the most attention-grabbing topics.

CoinGecko research analyst Lim Yu Qian noted in a report dated December 23rd that between January 1st and December 21st, meme coins and related categories attracted 31% of investor interest. These coins experienced significant gains and losses throughout the year, while Bitcoin saw a 123% increase in value in 2024.

These tokens are typically high-risk with short-term volatility, but some experienced investors managed to secure quick profits.

Despite fluctuating popularity, the most popular meme coins remained Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB), with coins like PEPE, Bonk, Pengu, WIF, and Floki also joining the trend and catching the attention of investors.

DeSci: A Decentralized Revolution in the World of Science

Decentralized Science (DeSci) is an approach that aims to make science more transparent, community-driven, and accessible through blockchain technology. Focusing on principles of transparency, decentralization, incentives, and collaboration, DeSci ensures broader access to scientific data, enhances the reliability of research, and promotes collaborations.

With blockchain, data is securely stored, while DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) decentralize decision-making processes. IP-NFTs (Intellectual Property Non-Fungible Tokens) enable researchers to retain control over the ownership of their work and commercialize it. By lowering the barriers to entry in science, DeSci fosters greater collaboration, accessibility, and transparency in the research ecosystem.

Decentralized Science (DeSci) gained significant momentum with Binance’s announcement to launch Bio Protocol (BIO) on its Launchpool. This development has given a substantial boost to the DeSci ecosystem, highlighting the growing market interest in decentralized scientific solutions. The introduction of Bio Protocol demonstrates the strengthening integration of blockchain technology in science and research fields.

Furthermore, it aims to decentralize funding and data sharing processes. With Bio Protocol ($BIO) leading the way, the DeSci sector is rapidly expanding, and the rise of projects like $URO and $RIF clearly showcases the market’s confidence and excitement in the transformative potential of DeSci.

As DeFi expands, the oracle market is facing competition from emerging providers challenging established players like Chainlink.

As decentralized finance (DeFi) continues to grow, the demand for oracles key tools that connect blockchains to real-world data is rapidly increasing.

Established providers like Chainlink are facing increased competition from new players as decentralized applications (DApps) require more efficient data delivery solutions.

RedStone co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Marcin Kaźmierczak noted that the oracle market has entered a new phase driven by innovation and multichain adoption, highlighting the rapid changes in DeFi and the potential reshaping of oracle providers.

Scaling a Multichain Ecosystem

Kaźmierczak stated that the rise of Layer-2 networks and non-Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains, such as The Open Network (TON) and Starknet, has exposed scalability limitations in existing oracle designs.

“When Chainlink was created, there was no such thing as L2 or DeFi on multiple L1s, therefore, the design wasn’t optimized for multichain delivery.”

Kaźmierczak stated that each new network presents “a big dependency and technical cost” that was not initially considered, but this demand has led to the emergence of new “challengers.”

The RedStone co-founder described these new networks as “far more efficient in supporting new ecosystems” and cited networks like Berachain, Unichain (Uniswap’s L2 network), and Ink (Kraken’s L2 network) as examples.

Decentralizing Without Over-Engineering

The decentralization of oracles is still a topic of debate. Some experts, like Hugo Philion, co-founder of Flare Network, advocate for directly embedding oracles on-chain.

Kaźmierczak expressed concerns about this embedding approach, stating that it “stifles innovation at the base layer and locks protocols into specific designs.”

He argued that a better and more efficient path could be achieved by using staking technology to distribute security risks, allowing oracles to remain independent and adaptable to technological changes.

What Will the Future of Oracles Look Like?

Acknowledging that Chainlink remains a powerful force with deep and growing industry roots, Kaźmierczak reiterated that the fast-paced nature of DeFi also provides opportunities for challengers.

“We are not so much obsessed with being first, as we are with delivering value to clients and constantly growing.”

He added that the total value secured (TVS) of the oracle provider has grown “1,250% year-over-year, reaching $6.3 billion.”

In an environment expected with crypto-friendly policies under the incoming Donald Trump administration, RedStone’s co-founder mentioned that he anticipates a “bullish wave” across DeFi platforms.

Providing digital asset custody and wallet, Cobo has declared its support for The Open Network (TON), therefore adding its complete custody solutions to the TON blockchain.

Integration Details and Strategic Benefits

This integration covers TON’s native Toncoin (TON), Notcoin (NOT), and stablecoins like Tether along with custodial wallets and multiparty computation wallet technologies. The cooperation seeks to increase Cobo’s service offers and improve the security and adaptability of digital asset management for institutional customers.

This Might Interest You: Binance Spot Expands Trading Options with New Listings and Discounted USDC Fees

The integration tracks a notable flood of Web3 support for the TON blockchain, which drives Telegram’s new advertising platform. Despite technical difficulties these features may create, Cobo’s decision to assist TON’s ecosystem fits its approach to increase token acceptance and exploit TON’s sophisticated multichain architecture and sharding technologies.

The platform of Cobo is well-known for institutional customer services and regulatory compliance. Particularly since Toncoin has permission from the Kazakhstan Financial Services and Regulatory Committee (AFSA), the relationship is strategically important. Toncoin ranks among 107 cryptocurrencies approved by Kazakhstan’s government here.

Security Concerns and Ecosystem Challenges

As SlowMist creator Yu Xian points out, phishing attempts on the blockchain have increased even with the success and rising acceptance of the TON ecosystem. Xian said on June 24 that the open character of the Telegram ecosystem helps phishing links to proliferate via messaging groups, airdrops, and other dishonest techniques. Users with anonymous numbers, which are not connected to SIM cards, he pointed out have more phishing risks and possible account losses should targeted criminal actors on the network target them.

Originally set for May 30, Tapswap postponed the airdrop until July 1 owing to an inflow of bots meant to farm airdrop points, according to a previous Decrypt story. The team claimed that it required more time to work on its approach; hence, the token-generating event has now been canceled.

“The whole point is that you’ll actually benefit from this,” Tapswap posted on X. “There have been certain ‘inconveniences’ accompanying our triumph. This degree of focus calls for a much more thorough study of tokenomics and the appropriate launch plan. Extra time follows from this as well,” as stated, adding:

“Know that this is all to ensure that our launch in Q3 is fair and, more importantly, profitable for all of you who stand by us no matter whatever.”

Tapswap did not offer a certain date for the release of its token, TAPS, on The Open Network, or TON. It also omitted particular information about the eligibility criteria for the airdrop.

Started in February, the game pays gamers for touching the displays of their computers or phones. The level one has attained determines the rules and limits on the number of tokens one can tap each time. According to the developers, the game is played by around 50 million enthusiasts. Its success, according to it, has drawn tier 1 exchange partners as well as frauds.

Tapswap underlined at a recent Ask-Me-Anything session on X that “a significant portion of all tokens will be allocated to the community.” Once the tokenomics, a mix of the words “token” and “economics,” define the aspects that make a cryptocurrency valuable, people will be informed about the endeavor.

The project promised to be exact in its airdrop token distribution. Said to have established a monitoring system to track user behavior, “identifying accounts that deserve to be banned,” Tapswap also wants to provide “unscrupulous users the option to voluntarily surrender for a percentage of the drop, so ensuring a win/loss for all.”

“Although these cannot be revealed ahead of time to prevent abuse, we are developing clear rules for token distribution to ensure justice,” it said.

Toncoin (TON), the native token of The Open Network (TON), has surged into the top 10 digital assets by market capitalization. This jump follows recent developments within the TON network, particularly related to Telegram integration.

TON Blockchain Linked to Telegram

The Open Network (TON) is a layer-1 blockchain network with close ties to the popular social messaging platform Telegram. This connection fuels speculation about TON’s potential and future adoption.

On April 8th, TON Society, a community supporting the TON blockchain, announced a partnership with AI company HumanCode. This collaboration aims to launch a novel identity verification system utilizing palm scanning technology.

To encourage user participation, TON Society is offering a significant incentive. They are allocating one million TON tokens, valued at roughly $7 million, to users who verify their identity using the new system.

Telegram Integrates Toncoin Payments for Advertising

Adding to the recent momentum, Telegram recently integrated Toncoin payments for its new advertising initiative. This program allows users to purchase ads using TON and offers revenue sharing with public channel creators exceeding 1,000 subscribers.

Furthermore, Telegram transitioned from using Euros to the TON network for facilitating ad service payments. This move further strengthens the connection between the two platforms.

TON Price Surge and Market Performance

Following these developments, TON’s price has experienced a significant increase. Over the past 24 hours alone, TON has seen a surge of over 22%. This upward trend extends over the past week, with gains exceeding 30%. As of today, TON has reached a record high of nearly $7, according to data from CryptoSlate.

TON Market Cap and Network Activity

This price surge has propelled TON’s market capitalization to over $23 billion. This impressive valuation surpasses established blockchain networks like Cardano, Avalanche, and Dogecoin.

Coinciding with the price increase, the TON blockchain ecosystem has witnessed a surge in network activity. TonStat data reveals that the number of active Ton blockchain wallets has skyrocketed to 1.65 million in the past month. This exponential growth in active wallets has also spurred other blockchain metrics, with daily transactions exceeding 4 million during the last day.
