The United States has now entered the 35th day of its ongoing government shutdown, marking the longest shutdown in the country’s history. The prolonged deadlock has disrupted federal operations, delayed paychecks for hundreds of thousands of workers, and heightened economic uncertainty across the nation.

Projections Suggest Shutdown Could Last Up to 44 Days

According to prediction market platform Kalshi, the current shutdown is expected to last around 44 days based on market data and sentiment. This projection suggests the impasse could extend for several more days. However, not everyone shares this view—some lawmakers believe a resolution may be imminent.

Senator Mullin: “I’m Very Confident It Will Reopen by the End of the Week”

Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, a member of the Republican Party, expressed optimism regarding the end of the standoff. Speaking to CNBC, Mullin stated, “I’m very confident the government will reopen by the end of this week,” emphasizing that negotiations between lawmakers are moving toward a potential breakthrough.

In a separate statement to Politico, Mullin predicted that the shutdown would likely conclude after Tuesday’s elections, with the government expected to reopen by Wednesday or Thursday. If his forecast proves accurate, the next few days could be decisive for Washington.

Economic Toll Continues to Grow

The ongoing shutdown has had a tangible impact on the economy. Many federal workers remain unpaid, while government-dependent contractors and small businesses are facing mounting financial pressure. Economists estimate that each additional week of the shutdown costs billions of dollars in lost productivity and consumer spending, further weighing on market confidence.

All Eyes on Washington for Shutdown

As the shutdown stretches into its second month, it highlights the growing political gridlock in Washington and its far-reaching economic costs. While forecasts point to a potential 44-day duration, the latest signs of cooperation between lawmakers have sparked hope that a resolution may be near.

Whatever the outcome, the decisions made in the coming days will not only shape U.S. domestic policy but also ripple across global markets, reinforcing just how deeply intertwined politics and the economy have become.

U.S. President Donald Trump recently pardoned former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ. This decision made by Trump created a huge stir, especially within the crypto community. At that moment, everyone had the same question in mind: “How was CZ pardoned?” The answer, according to Politico, is quite clear — this pardon came right after Binance and Zhao conducted high-budget lobbying activities in Washington.

How Did the Process Work for CZ?

In 2023, CZ was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $50 million for allegedly violating U.S. Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws. However, according to Politico, CZ’s case turned out to be much more than a simple legal process.

The revealed report shows that Binance transferred large sums of money to companies linked to Trump. The largest transfer went to Checkmate Government Relations, owned by Ches McDowell, a close associate of Donald Trump Jr. These transfers brought the firm $450,000 in just one month. During this period, Checkmate became one of the fastest-growing lobbying firms in Washington, generating a total of $7.1 million in revenue over three months.

Binance didn’t stop at working with Trump and his circle; it also began collaborating with former SEC nominee Teresa Goody Guillén for $290,000. This partnership is believed to be part of Binance’s strategy to gain legal and political support within regulatory circles.

Binance Continues Its Lobbying Expenditures!

Binance seems to understand that creating a lobbying presence is inevitable — and it’s acting accordingly. Since 2022, the company has spent over $1 million on lobbying efforts, which is not surprising. However, after reaching a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice in 2023, Binance temporarily paused its lobbying activities. That hiatus ended under Trump’s influence, and since then, the company has spent another $860,000. The community interprets this move as follows:

“Binance wants to be as big at the political table as it is at the crypto table.”

This statement clearly reflects the sentiment within the community, especially after Trump defended CZ by saying, “CZ was persecuted and politically targeted by the Biden administration.” Trump also argued that the accusations were excessive and could have dealt a major blow to the cryptocurrency market.

One of the most talked-about hiring moves in the crypto sector has been finalized. Former senior White House official Bo Hines, who left his public position earlier this month after receiving numerous private sector offers, has officially joined Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer. Hines will oversee the company’s U.S. expansion plans, a move seen as a major milestone for the crypto market.

Tether’s U.S. Expansion

Headquartered in El Salvador, Tether’s flagship token USDT currently holds a market capitalization of around $167 billion. The company has long been preparing its entry into the U.S. market. With Bo Hines on board, this process is expected to accelerate while also strengthening Tether’s ties with the Trump administration.

Tether’s biggest U.S. rival, Circle, recently went public. Hines’ move signals that competition in the stablecoin market will become even more intense.

Bo Hines’ Background

A former Yale football player, Hines had previously run twice as a congressional candidate in North Carolina. In January, he joined the Trump administration as the executive director of the President’s Council on Digital Assets, where he played a key role in shaping crypto regulation and engaging with lawmakers.

Rising quickly in the sector, Hines was actively involved in the stablecoin legislation recently passed by Congress. After announcing his departure in early August, he received multiple offers but ultimately chose Tether.

Regulation and Uncertainty

Tether has faced scrutiny from U.S. regulators in the past. In 2021, the company reached a settlement with the New York Attorney General and has reportedly been under investigation by the Department of Justice. Still, Tether has consistently denied wrongdoing, highlighting its cooperation with U.S. law enforcement to combat illicit activity.

Despite regulatory challenges, Tether has continued to build strong political connections in the U.S. The company works with Cantor Fitzgerald as custodian of the Treasuries backing USDT. Howard Lutnick, Cantor’s former CEO, now serves as Trump’s Commerce Secretary. Tether has also invested $775 million into Rumble, a video platform linked to Trump’s media group, and hired Republican lobbyist Jeff Miller.

A New Era for Stablecoins

By appointing Bo Hines to lead its U.S. operations, Tether is set to strengthen its presence in Washington and gain leverage in the competitive stablecoin sector. This strategic move could have ripple effects across the broader bitcoin and altcoin ecosystem, making it a development closely watched by investors worldwide.

US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky are accelerating their efforts to seek peace in Ukraine. After the summit held in Alaska, no final agreement was reached, but all sides emphasized that progress had been made at the negotiation table.

Trump: “No Deal Until There’s a Deal”

The US president described his meeting with Putin as “10 out of 10.” However, he acknowledged that no final consensus had been reached yet, particularly on security and territorial issues. Trump stressed that “the final decision belongs to NATO and Ukraine,” adding that he would hold direct talks with Zelensky.

Putin: “We Want to End the Conflict”

Putin stated that the talks were “comprehensive and useful.” Highlighting that US-Russia relations are at their lowest level since the Cold War, he said, “It was necessary to fix the situation.” Putin also emphasized that he agreed with Trump on ensuring Ukraine’s security.

Zelensky: “Ready for Constructive Cooperation”

Zelensky said he had a 90-minute call with Trump and expressed that Ukraine is open to “constructive cooperation.” He voiced support for a potential trilateral meeting and underlined that Europe should be included at every stage. Zelensky is scheduled to travel to Washington on Monday for a face-to-face meeting with Trump.

Outcome of the Summit

The Alaska talks did not result in a ceasefire or a definitive peace agreement, but the willingness to move directly toward peace was clear. Putin stressed that Russia is “sincerely interested” in ending the war, while Trump noted that “many points were agreed upon, with only one or two critical issues unresolved.”

In a significant move that could reshape the global economic landscape, China has reportedly suspended approvals for new investments by its domestic companies in the United States. This decision comes during a delicate phase in the ongoing trade negotiations between the world’s two largest economies and is seen by many observers as a direct response to rising tensions.

According to sources familiar with the matter, both local governments in China and the National Development and Reform Commission — the country’s top economic planning body — have ceased granting approvals for outbound investments into the U.S. since April. The halt appears to have been implemented suddenly, with no new Chinese investment projects directed toward the U.S. currently receiving regulatory clearance.

Increasing Economic and Political Strains Between China and the US

This development signals more than just an economic maneuver. It carries substantial geopolitical implications as well. China’s decision is widely interpreted as a countermeasure to increasing U.S. restrictions targeting Chinese firms, particularly in areas such as technology transfer, cybersecurity, and national security. The move suggests that Beijing is no longer willing to tolerate what it sees as hostile trade and investment practices.

Although Chinese officials have not issued a formal public statement on the matter, insiders suggest this investment freeze is a strategic response to Washington’s ongoing efforts to limit Chinese influence in sensitive sectors. The timing and execution of the decision suggest a deliberate effort to send a strong political message.

Waiting on Washington’s Response

So far, the U.S. government has not issued an official reply to China’s decision. However, analysts believe a reaction is likely imminent, potentially in the form of economic countermeasures or diplomatic initiatives. With Chinese firms scaling back plans for technology and infrastructure investments in the U.S., the mutual economic interdependence that once defined U.S.-China relations could begin to unravel.

The ripple effects of this decision may extend beyond the two nations. Global multinational corporations are expected to closely monitor the situation, as it could influence strategic planning, supply chains, and long-term investment decisions.

Implications for Global Trade and Geopolitics

Economists are already warning that this shift in China’s investment policy could disrupt international trade balances. Some countries may find themselves reassessing their own positions as the geopolitical rivalry between China and the U.S. intensifies. The broader ramifications of this move will likely become more apparent in the coming weeks, especially as global markets and policymakers absorb the news.

Ultimately, how this new flashpoint in U.S.-China relations evolves will have far-reaching implications, not only for the two nations involved but for the entire global economy. As of now, the world is watching closely for Washington’s next move.

Elon Musk has surprised many once again—but this time, it’s not about rockets or cryptocurrencies. The Tesla CEO is stepping down from his role as head of DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), a White House initiative aimed at cutting federal spending. What seemed like a bold cost-cutting adventure turned into a bureaucratic battle Musk was not prepared for.

A Mission More Difficult Than Expected

Appointed by President Donald Trump as a Special Government Employee, Elon Musk was legally bound to a 130-day term, which ends on May 30. On May 29, Musk confirmed via X that he is stepping down, thanking Trump for the opportunity to tackle wasteful expenditures.

You Might Be Interested In: Elon Musk Talks About the Name of a New Memecoin!

In a May 27 interview with The Washington Post, Musk admitted the “federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than expected,” calling the effort “an uphill battle.” DOGE, despite its bold goals, only achieved 8.5% of Musk’s original plan to cut $2 trillion from the budget. Reuters reported DOGE managed a 12% reduction in federal workforce—about 260,000 jobs.

Politics, Tesla, and the Media Spotlight

On May 28, Musk told Ars Technica he may have spent “a bit too much time” on politics, though he stressed the media exaggerated his involvement. “I didn’t leave the companies. It was just relative time allocation,” he said. Following Tesla’s Q1 report where Musk announced less time on DOGE, Tesla shares rose over 5%, despite an 80% drop in net income. Tesla still holds 11,509 Bitcoin, worth approximately $1.24 billion as of March 31.

Meanwhile, a federal judge has allowed a lawsuit to proceed, accusing Musk and DOGE of unconstitutional actions including unauthorized data access and unlawful termination of federal contracts. The case, filed by 14 states, could further challenge Musk’s foray into public service.
