Poland surpassed El Salvador to become the fifth-largest Bitcoin ATM hub globally, recording 219 active machines in just four months.

Poland Rises to Fifth in Global Bitcoin ATM Count

On January 27, Poland added 10 new Bitcoin ATMs, bringing its total to 219 active machines and surpassing El Salvador to become the fifth-largest cryptocurrency ATM network globally, following the US, Canada, Australia, and Spain.

Poland has added 24 more crypto ATMs during its four-month-long installation spree that started in October 2024. According to Bitcoin ATM Radar data, several other countries, including current leaders Canada, Spain, and Australia, continue to see an increase in local active crypto ATMs month after month.

Net Change of Cryptocurrency Machines Installed and Removed Monthly in Poland

El Salvador Lags Behind, Despite an Impressive Start

While the US and Canada dominate the global Bitcoin ATM network with thousands of active machines, El Salvador was once the third-largest crypto ATM hub in October 2022, after installing 215 machines to support Bitcoin adoption.

However, the country has not increased its existing capacity, which contrasts with other major economies.

In contrast, Poland installed 12 new ATMs in January alone, with more installations expected before the end of the month.

The current top 10 countries for Bitcoin ATM networks are as follows:

United States – 30,780 ATMs (80.8%)

Canada – 3,062 ATMs (8%)

Australia – 1,389 ATMs (3.6%)

Spain – 276 ATMs (0.7%)

Poland – 219 ATMs (0.6%)

El Salvador – 215 ATMs (0.6%)

Hong Kong – 196 ATMs (0.5%)

New Zealand – 191 ATMs (0.5%)

Germany – 173 ATMs (0.5%)

Puerto Rico – 162 ATMs (0.4%)

While crypto ATMs don’t directly impact local Bitcoin adoption, they provide an opportunity for grassroots exposure and serve unbanked populations. Regulators have raised concerns about the potential misuse of these machines for money laundering and financing terrorism, yet they remain crucial infrastructure for enhancing cryptocurrency accessibility.

Currently, there are approximately 38,100 active crypto ATMs worldwide, distributed across 65 countries and operated by 356 providers.

Australia has seen the most consistent growth in crypto ATMs over nearly three years. The country joined the 1,000+ Bitcoin ATM club alongside the US and Canada in April 2024.
