At the beginning of July, Ripple unlocked 500 million XRP. Shortly after, it re-locked 400 million XRP. This move has brought the company’s strategic balancing plans back into the spotlight.

Ripple follows an unusual pattern in managing its XRP holdings. The platform regularly unlocks 1 billion XRP every month. However, this month, only 500 million XRP were unlocked. Of this, 300 million and then 200 million XRP were transferred in two separate transactions to Ripple accounts.

Despite these developments, XRP’s price showed a downward trend. Its lowest level during the day was $2.1538. It later recovered to $2.19. However, there was still a 0.6% decline on a 24-hour basis.

What Does Ripple’s XRP Locking Strategy Mean?

The unlocking of 500 million XRP followed by the re-locking of 400 million may seem routine on the surface, but it actually signals a significant structural shift. These operations are interpreted as steps toward optimizing funds reserved for on-demand liquidity (ODL) operations, ETP products, and strategic partnerships.

Meanwhile, a third unlocking attempt involving 300 million XRP was recorded, but the transaction did not complete. This indicates that the process is being restructured due to technical or strategic reasons. Notable transfers between Ripple wallets were observed before the re-locking, where 200 million XRP were moved from two different wallets to the related address. First, 200 million XRP were transferred from the ‘rGKHDy’ address, followed by another 200 million XRP from the ‘rHGfmg’ address.

Is Ripple Moving Away from the Traditional Escrow Model?

Since the beginning of this year, Ripple’s deviation from the traditional escrow release model has been closely followed by the crypto community. Changes observed since March suggest that Ripple is creating new escrow structures from its own reserves. This approach helps ensure asset security while controlling supply pressure on the market.

In addition, one of Ripple’s partners, SBI Holdings, recently moved $703 million worth of XRP to its internal wallet. This development is believed to be directly linked to Ripple’s new escrow and asset structures.

These complex operations by Ripple reveal that the company is entering a new phase in its digital asset management strategy. Moreover, this situation directly impacts the market dynamics of XRP.
