According to a statement by the US Department of Justice, Ver was arrested in Spain on charges of fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns.<\/p>\n<p>Allegedly, Ver failed to report his Bitcoin holdings to the IRS and caused a total loss of $48 million.<\/p>\n<p>It is claimed that Ver&#8217;s two companies had approximately 70,000 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coinengineer.net\/blog\/nyc-woman-sentenced-for-funding-terrorists-with-bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a><\/strong> in June 2017. Ver owned this Bitcoin at the time and sold tens of thousands of them through cryptocurrency exchanges for approximately $240 million in November 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice statement also said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although Ver is not a US citizen, he was required to file and pay taxes on dividends he received from US companies MemoryDealers and Agilestar.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ver renounced his US citizenship in 2014 after taking citizenship in Saint Kitts and Nevis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ver is considered one of the early proponents of Bitcoin and served as the former CEO of Bitcoin.com.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Roger Ver, an early investor in Bitcoin (BTC), has been arrested in Europe.
