After France, Telegram has suffered another blow from India. Following the detention of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in Paris, authorities in India have also launched an investigation into Telegram. This investigation could lead to a complete ban on the app in the country.<\/p>\n

The investigation, conducted by the Indian Cyber \u200b\u200bCrime Coordination Center under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is examining allegations that Telegram is being used for illegal activities such as blackmail and gambling. It has been stated that Telegram could be banned in India depending on the findings of the investigation.<\/p>\n

Pavel Durov was detained by French police while arriving at Le Bourget Airport near Paris from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on his private jet. The reason for his detention was cited as the lack of adequate measures to combat criminal activities on the Telegram app. Durov\u2019s detention period was extended to 96 hours and he will therefore remain in custody until August 28.<\/p>\n

Pavel Durov founded VKontakte (VK), a social media platform similar to Facebook, in Russia in 2007, and became known as the \u201cMark Zuckerberg of Russia\u201d for this reason. As VK grew to become Russia\u2019s largest social media platform, the Russian government sought to increase its control over the platform. In 2014, the government demanded that opposition groups on VK be shut down. Durov, who opposed this demand, sold his shares in VK and left Russia.<\/p>\n

Durov also founded Telegram in 2013. The messaging platform quickly gained popularity, reaching nearly 1 billion users today. Pavel Durov holds French and United Arab Emirates citizenship.<\/p>\n
