The US government is negotiating with several political groups to return political donations made on behalf of former FTX<\/strong> executives Sam Bankman-Fried and Nishad Singh. A court filing shows that the government\u2019s request to extend negotiations with the groups until January 15 was granted by Judge Lewis Kaplan. Judge Kaplan is presiding over the case against former FTX CEO Bankman-Fried and his associates.<\/p>\n

The donations were largely to groups aligned with Democrats or that support liberal views. These groups include the Democrat-backed Senate Majority PAC, Future Forward PAC, Future Forward USA Action, Emily\u2019s List\/Women Vote and GMI PAC. According to OpenSecrets data, Bankman-Fried and former FTX engineering director Singh have made a combined total of approximately $13.25 million. Singh said the donations were made at Bankman-Fried\u2019s request and that she sometimes signed blank checks and used them for donations.<\/p>\n

Among the recorded donations, Future Forward PAC received $1 million in Singh\u2019s name and $5 million in Bankman-Fried\u2019s name. GMI PAC received $2 million, while Senate Majority PAC received $2 million from Singh and $1 million from Bankman-Fried. Women Vote received $2.25 million from Singh. The total donations totaling $13.25 million may have also been recorded in other donors\u2019 names.<\/p>\n

Since the collapse of FTX, many politicians and political committees have returned Bankman-Fried\u2019s donations or announced plans to use them for other purposes. CBS News reported that many of the organizations that received Bankman-Fried\u2019s donations plan to divert the funds elsewhere.<\/p>\n
