Regardless, <strong>Satoshi\u2019s 1 million BTC<\/strong> remains a high-value target for quantum attackers that could potentially disrupt the market.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Are_The_Coins_Vulnerable\"><\/span>Are The Coins Vulnerable?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Satoshi\u2019s BTC<\/strong> are stored in the earliest <strong>P2PK<\/strong> outputs, which are no longer commonly used and expose the owner\u2019s public key.<\/p>\n<p>With the introduction of <strong>P2PKH<\/strong>, which hides public keys behind a hash until the coins are spent, attacking using quantum computing became significantly more complex compared to targeting an unprotected public key.<\/p>\n<p>While <strong>P2PK<\/strong> outputs\u2019 vulnerability to quantum threats isn\u2019t an issue yet, advancements in quantum computing and the potential for such attacks to become feasible could pose a threat in the future<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Freezing_Satoshis_1_Million_BTC\"><\/span>Freezing Satoshi\u2019s 1 Million BTC<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The ability to freeze Satoshi\u2019s holdings would require changing Bitcoin\u2019s consensus rules to make specific unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs) unspendable. This process involves developers drafting a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP), clearly identifying Satoshi\u2019s vulnerable P2PK outputs, and obtaining approval to enforce the freeze.<\/p>\n<p>If approved, the freeze function could be implemented via a soft fork, which is optional for nodes but driven by consensus, or through a hard fork that would completely overhaul the underlying code of the BTC blockchain.
