Circle struggled in 2023 when it couldn\u2019t withdraw part of <strong>USDC\u2019s<\/strong> $40 billion reserves from <strong>SVB<\/strong>. This led to a major sell-off of <strong>USDC<\/strong>, causing it to temporarily lose its peg to the US dollar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34905 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/coinengineer.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/usdc.png\" alt=\"usdc\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coinengineer.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/usdc.png 1920w, https:\/\/coinengineer.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/usdc-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/coinengineer.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/usdc-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/coinengineer.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/usdc-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/coinengineer.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/usdc-1536x864.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"USDC_and_USDT_Recovery_or_Continuous_Growth\"><\/span>USDC and USDT: Recovery or Continuous Growth?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Compared to <strong>USDC<\/strong>, <strong>Tether&#8217;s USDT<\/strong> saw more modest growth in 2024, increasing its market value by 50%. <strong>USDT&#8217;s<\/strong> market value grew from $91.7 billion at the end of 2023 to $137.5 billion by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>However, unlike <strong>USDC&#8217;s<\/strong> recovery, <strong>USDT&#8217;s<\/strong> 50% growth reflects the stablecoin&#8217;s continuous growth, enabling its market value to reach new all-time highs.<\/p>\n<p>Since the end of 2020, <strong>USDT&#8217;s<\/strong> market value has increased by 552%, while <strong>USDC<\/strong> has seen a rise of 1,135%.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, since 2021, <strong>USDT&#8217;s<\/strong> market value has grown by 74%, while <strong>USDC&#8217;s<\/strong> market value has increased by only 8.8% since the end of 2021.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Circles_Praise_for_Regulatory_Clarity_Amid_Industry_Uncertainty_Concerns\"><\/span>Circle\u2019s Praise for Regulatory Clarity Amid Industry Uncertainty Concerns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In its 2025 report, <strong>Circle<\/strong> stated that the rapid adoption of <strong>USDC<\/strong> reflects increasing regulatory clarity for stablecoins and positions its leadership as a benchmark for security and transparency in the space.<\/p>\n<p>The company pointed to regional regulatory developments, particularly the <strong>European Crypto Asset Market Regulation (MiCA)<\/strong>, noting that it became the first stablecoin issuer licensed under <strong>MiCA<\/strong> in July 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Circle Spokesperson:<\/strong> &#8220;While USDC&#8217;s growth has been broad-based, we have seen strong adoption, especially in regions where regulatory clarity has enabled stronger integration of digital assets with traditional finance, notably in the European Union under MiCA and in emerging markets where remittances and cross-border payments are critical,&#8221; they said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While <strong>Circle<\/strong> praised regulatory clarity, some industry executives, such as <strong>BitGo stablecoin director Ben Reynolds<\/strong>, emphasized that regulatory uncertainty and the need for greater transparency would continue to be significant challenges in 2025.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Circle_Investing_in_Stablecoin_Regulations_in_the_UK_Brazil_Singapore_and_Japan\"><\/span>Circle Investing in Stablecoin Regulations in the UK, Brazil, Singapore, and Japan<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Circle<\/strong> noted in its report that <strong>USDC<\/strong> is available in over 180 countries and that the company is on a mission to serve 1.5 billion unbanked or underbanked individuals globally.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, the main <strong>USDC<\/strong> markets were regions with high remittance activity, such as<strong> Latin America, Africa, <\/strong>and <strong>Southeast Asia<\/strong>; in these areas, stablecoins offer cheaper and faster solutions as alternatives to traditional payment methods. <strong>Circle\u2019s<\/strong> spokesperson mentioned that the company expects stablecoin regulations to develop in countries like the <strong>UK, Brazil, Singapore, <\/strong>and <strong>Japan<\/strong> in 2025.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The UK, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, and other jurisdictions around the world are working to bring consistent and clear regulations for stablecoins.
