Jung is notable for having a law degree, having served as a manager at Morgan Stanley and as a vice president at CitiBank.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto investor Monolith noted that Jung&#8217;s past experience, especially in banking and management, could bring an \u201cinteresting approach\u201d to crypto regulation.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"New_Appointments_and_Winds_of_Change_in_the_Organization\"><\/span>New Appointments and Winds of Change in the Organization<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Among other important changes at the CFTC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Meaghan Tente<\/strong> was appointed acting director.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Taylor Foy<\/strong> moves to the Office of Public Affairs from senior counsel to Pham.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tom Smith<\/strong> was named leader of the market participants division.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pham thanked former CFTC chairman Rostin Behnam and the previous leadership team for raising concerns about regulatory shortcomings, particularly in the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Crypto_Regulations_and_Record_Fines\"><\/span>Crypto Regulations and Record Fines<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>These changes in the CFTC&#8217;s leadership come on the heels of the agency&#8217;s record-breaking $17.1 billion in fines and settlements in fiscal year 2024. A large portion of this figure stemmed from crypto-related cases.<\/p>\n<p>According to data released in December 2024:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>$2.6 billion<\/strong> came from civil monetary penalties (CMPs).<\/li>\n<li><strong>14.5 billion dollars<\/strong> were secured through the recovery of illicit gains and reparations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Trump_Administrations_Crypto_Vision\"><\/span>The Trump Administration&#8217;s Crypto Vision<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It was previously reported that the Trump administration plans to transfer oversight of the crypto industry from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to the CFTC.
