The key areas the new unit will focus on are:<\/p>\n<ul data-end=\"1669\" data-start=\"989\">\n<li data-end=\"1084\" data-start=\"989\">Frauds using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1194\" data-start=\"1085\">Crypto and investment scams via social media, dark web and fake websites<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1272\" data-start=\"1195\">Cyber attacks and hacking attempts on sensitive financial data<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1346\" data-start=\"1273\">Seizure of brokerage accounts of individual investors<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1433\" data-start=\"1347\">Fraudulent activities involving blockchain technology and crypto assets<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1532\" data-start=\"1434\">Cybersecurity compliance and audits of non-compliant financial institutions<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1669\" data-start=\"1533\">Identifying false or incomplete disclosures about cybersecurity risks by currently publicly traded companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-end=\"1762\" data-start=\"1676\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SEC_Chairman_%E2%80%9CFounded_to_Protect_Investors_and_Pave_the_Way_for_Innovation%E2%80%9D\"><\/span><strong data-end=\"1760\" data-start=\"1680\">SEC Chairman: &#8220;Founded to Protect Investors and Pave the Way for Innovation&#8221;<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-end=\"2007\" data-start=\"1764\"><strong data-end=\"1800\" data-start=\"1786\">Mark Uyeda<\/strong>, interim chairman of the SEC, stated that the CETU will not only protect investors, but will also enhance the efficiency of capital markets, enabling innovation to grow. Uyeda said in his statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-end=\"2292\" data-start=\"2009\">\n<p data-end=\"2292\" data-start=\"2011\"><strong data-end=\"2290\" data-start=\"2011\">&#8220;Under Laura&#8217;s leadership, this new unit will complement the work of the Crypto Task Force led by Commissioner Hester Peirce.
