In his statement, he said:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"1486\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"809\" data-end=\"1486\">\u201cI\u2019m happy to report that we made substantial progress between the United States and China in the very important trade talks. First, I want to thank our Swiss host. The Swiss government has been very kind in providing us this wonderful venue, and I think that led to a great deal of productivity we\u2019ve seen. We will be giving details tomorrow, but I can tell you that the talks were productive. We had the vice premier, two vice ministers, who were integrally involved, Ambassador Jamieson, and myself. And I spoke to President Trump, as did Ambassador Jamieson, last night, and he is fully informed of what is going on. So, there will be a complete briefing tomorrow morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1488\" data-end=\"1722\">As can be seen from these words, the talks took place in a highly positive atmosphere in <strong data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1592\">Switzerland<\/strong>. Greer said:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1977\" data-end=\"2596\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1979\" data-end=\"2596\">\u201cThis was, as the Secretary pointed out, a very constructive two days. It\u2019s important to understand how quickly we were able to come to agreement, which reflects that perhaps the differences were not so large as maybe thought. That being said, there was a lot of groundwork that went into these two days. Just remember why we\u2019re here in the first place \u2014 the United States has a massive $1.2 trillion trade deficit, so the President declared a national emergency and imposed tariffs, and we\u2019re confident that the deal we struck with our Chinese partners will help us to work toward resolving that national emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2598\" data-end=\"2774\">Greer\u2019s remarks indicate that the differences between the two sides were <strong data-start=\"2671\" data-end=\"2706\">smaller than previously assumed<\/strong> and that the agreement was backed by a serious preparatory process.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2776\" data-end=\"2811\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"All_Eyes_on_Tomorrows_Briefing\"><\/span>All Eyes on Tomorrow&#8217;s Briefing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2813\" data-end=\"3050\">The details of the agreement have not yet been made public.
