The latest inflation data released in the United States<\/strong><\/a> has strengthened expectations for an interest rate cut<\/strong> in September<\/strong>. Markets have priced in that the Federal Reserve (Fed)<\/strong> will begin its rate-cutting<\/strong> cycle in September and deliver a second cut by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

According to data published by the U.S. government<\/strong>, the Consumer Price Index (CPI)<\/strong> rose by only 0.1% in May. This figure was lower than the 0.2% increase seen in April. On an annual basis, inflation<\/strong> stood at 2.4%, falling short of economists\u2019 expectations of 2.5%.<\/p>\n

This \u201cmild\u201d inflation data has further strengthened the market\u2019s conviction for a rate cut. According to data from CME Group, the probability of a rate cut in September<\/strong> rose to 76%, up from 69% just a day earlier.<\/p>\n

Trump and Powell\u2019s Interest Rate Dispute Continues at Full Speed<\/h2>\n

Meanwhile, tensions between U.S. President Donald Trump<\/strong> and Fed Chair Jerome Powell<\/strong> are escalating. On June 12, Trump<\/strong> once again launched harsh criticism against Powell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Trump called Powell<\/strong> a \u201cnumbskull<\/strong>\u201d and claimed that a 2-point interest rate<\/strong> reduction would save the U.S. economy<\/strong> $600 billion annually. \u201cBut we can\u2019t get this guy to do it,\u201d said Trump, suggesting that he might be forced to intervene if necessary.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s remarks came shortly after the Labor Department<\/strong> reported that producer prices<\/strong> rose less than expected in May. This development indicated that inflation<\/strong> is not rising, further supporting Trump\u2019s argument for rate cuts.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s latest statements mark the third time in two days that his administration has criticized the Fed.<\/p>\n

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick<\/strong> said, \u201cInflation<\/strong> is low, the economy<\/strong> is ready. The Fed Chair must do his job,\u201d openly backing Trump\u2019s stance.<\/p>\n

Vice President JD Vance<\/strong> also commented on social media, stating, \u201cThe Fed\u2019s refusal to cut rates is monetary malpractice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite these statements, markets remained largely unaffected. However, investors are increasingly aware of the growing political pressure<\/strong> on Powell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At one point, Trump<\/strong> had signaled the possibility of removing Powell<\/strong> from his position. But after strong market backlash, he backed off. In his latest remarks, Trump said, \u201cI\u2019m not going to fire Powell<\/strong>, but I don\u2019t see why it would be so bad,\u201d once again reigniting the debate.<\/p>\n
