Intuitive Machines, the company that provides infrastructure and services for space exploration, has announced a new launch date for the groundbreaking IM-1 Moon mission for DOGE-1. This mission will be carried out in cooperation with SpaceX on January 12, 2024.

Elon Musk announced the mission to launch DOGE-1 as a joint launch under the Nova-C/IM-1 mission via Twitter on May 9, 2021.

The company previously targeted a launch window of November 15-20. Steve Altemus, Founder Partner, President and CEO of Intuitive Machines,  also explained, “Moon missions are inherently challenging; program changes and mission adjustments are a natural outcome towards leading exploration of the Moon.”

The IM-1 mission will include the company’s first attempt to land on the Moon as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (“CLPS”) initiative. This initiative is a significant part of NASA’s Artemis Moon exploration efforts. Scientific and technological payloads sent to the Moon under the CLPS scheme aim to lay the groundwork for manned missions and also a sustainable human presence on the Moon.

SpaceX will carry out the Nova-C IM-1 Moon mission using a Falcon 9 rocket to transport the lunar landing vehicle and various payloads, including DOGE-1. Intuitive Machines received its flight manifest recently and is now ready for flight.
