Fintech giant Robinhood is reportedly working on a blockchain network that would allow European retail investors to trade tokenized US securities, marking a significant step in the company’s European expansion strategy.
According to a May 7 Bloomberg report, Robinhood recently secured a brokerage license in Lithuania, granting it permission to offer investment services across the European Union. The company also struck a deal in 2024 to acquire crypto exchange Bitstamp, further reinforcing its regional presence.
Arbitrum and Solana in Contention for Blockchain Partner
Arbitrum and the Solana Foundation are reportedly in talks to power Robinhood’s upcoming blockchain infrastructure, though no agreements have been finalized. All parties declined to comment on the matter.

The platform would tokenize traditional financial instruments like stocks, enabling more accessible, faster, and cost-efficient trading. Tokenization — turning real-world assets into blockchain-based digital tokens — is increasingly embraced by the financial sector.
Robinhood Embraces Innovation Amid Revenue Dip
Robinhood CEO Vladimir Tenev recently commented:
“You can sit down in front of some software, create a coin and have it be trading in 5 minutes. That’s a scary thing — but it’s also incredibly powerful when compared to how cumbersome the IPO process is.”
Robinhood shares rose 2.7% on the Nasdaq on May 7, despite an 8.6% revenue decline in Q1 2025 — still outperforming Wall Street expectations.
Traditional institutions like JP Morgan and Banco Santander have previously explored blockchain for financial services, showing that Robinhood is not alone in modernizing asset trading through decentralized technology.
