Ash Pampati, head of ecosystem at Aptos, highlighted during an interview at Token2049 Dubai that Web2.5 platforms—hybrid applications blending centralized Web2 interfaces with Web3 decentralization—are generating “tons of revenue” on the Aptos network. He emphasized that consumer-facing apps, in particular, are thriving.
Web2.5 platforms don’t fully embrace decentralization, and some in the crypto space criticize them for that. Still, they offer a smoother user experience while maintaining core blockchain principles, which is what makes them attractive to broader audiences.

According to Pampati, developers on Aptos aim to create “great consumer experiences” supported by a developer stack built for scalability and simplicity. Aptos’ Meta-origin design philosophy focuses on minimizing Web3 friction while preserving decentralization.
The Real Challenge: The Next Big Catalyst
Pampati also touched on a core challenge: attracting non-crypto-native users to the ecosystem. He warned that founders often resort to rehashing old ideas like memecoins or NFTs, instead of exploring genuinely new concepts.
“The next wave of users will come from something new—not something that’s already been done,” he said. For broader adoption, innovation will be key. Pampati emphasized that the ecosystem should encourage founders to look beyond past trends and prepare for the next catalyst that could bring in the next million or ten million users.
