Tether Strengthens Reserves with Billion-Dollar Bitcoin Purchase!

Tether, the company behind the crypto sector’s largest stablecoin, USDT, made a notable investment move in Q3 2025. On the last day of the quarter, the company purchased 8,888 Bitcoin (BTC) worth $1 billion, adding them to its reserves. This strategic acquisition reinforces Tether’s position as one of the most influential players in the crypto ecosystem.

Experts say this move is a clear indicator of the company’s long-term vision and confidence in Bitcoin. Tether is diversifying its reserves not only with traditional assets such as U.S. Treasury bonds but also with Bitcoin, often referred to as digital gold. This approach enhances financial flexibility while strengthening the company’s strategic power in the crypto market.

Strategic Purchase at the End of the Quarter

According to Onchain Lens data, Tether made this purchase on the last day of Q3. The company is known to allocate a portion of its quarterly profits to Bitcoin. Since 2023, this strategy has aimed to diversify Tether’s reserves beyond traditional assets like U.S. Treasury bonds by including Bitcoin, often referred to as “digital gold.”

This latest acquisition demonstrates ongoing market confidence in Tether’s long-term Bitcoin strategy.

Fluctuations in Reserves and Discussions

Previously, Tether’s Bitcoin holdings were reported to have dropped from 92,650 BTC to 83,274 BTC, leading to speculation that the company had sold Bitcoin. However, CEO Paolo Ardoino firmly denied these claims.

Experts explained that the decrease was due to the transfer of approximately 20,000 BTC to XXI, a Bitcoin treasury company supported by Tether. While this reduced the amount visible in Tether’s direct reserves, it was emphasized that the company’s Bitcoin investments continue.

Since 2023, Tether has consistently invested 15% of its profits in Bitcoin. These systematic purchases highlight the company’s focus on crypto assets in its reserve management strategy.
