The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and its parent company, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), have announced the development of a new platform focused on tokenized securities that will enable 24/7 trading of U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs. This move is being viewed as a critical milestone in the integration of traditional finance with blockchain infrastructure.
Tokenized Securities and On-Chain Settlement
According to the NYSE, the platform has been designed to support on-chain trading and instant settlement of tokenized equities. Once the necessary regulatory approvals are obtained, the system will offer continuous trading, real-time settlement, stablecoin-based funding, and multi-blockchain support. Investors holding tokenized shares will retain traditional shareholder rights, including dividend payments and participation in corporate governance. In this way, digital asset infrastructure will be aligned with existing capital market standards.

NYSE Pillar and Blockchain Integration
The new platform integrates NYSE’s high-volume trading engine, Pillar, with blockchain-based systems—bringing traditional market infrastructure and digital asset technology together under a single framework. This integration is expected to support multiple settlement networks and digital asset rails while significantly reducing time delays and operational costs in clearing and settlement processes. The goal is to deliver a faster, more transparent, and uninterrupted trading experience for market participants.
NYSE Group President Lynn Martin commented on the initiative:
“We are developing fully on-chain solutions that combine trust and high regulatory standards with cutting-edge technology. Our goal is to redefine market infrastructure to meet the needs of a digital future.”
Tokenized Deposits Through Collaboration with ICE, BNY, and Citi
As part of this vision, ICE is collaborating with global banking giants such as BNY and Citi to build next-generation infrastructure that supports tokenized deposits within clearing houses. The primary objectives of this initiative are to enable 24/7 clearing processes that are no longer constrained by traditional market hours, accelerate cross-border capital flows at lower cost, and meet margin requirements in real time with greater efficiency.
ICE Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Michael Blaugrund, emphasized the strategic importance of tokenized securities, stating:
“Supporting tokenized assets is a critical step toward transitioning trading, settlement, custody, and capital formation processes to on-chain market infrastructure.”
BNY’s recent activation of tokenized deposits—operating within the regulated banking system and offering near real-time transfers—demonstrates that this transformation is already being implemented in practice.
Assessment
NYSE’s new platform, centered on 24/7 trading, instant settlement, and tokenized securities, represents a fundamental transformation in trading hours, liquidity structures, and settlement processes within traditional financial markets. The adoption of blockchain technology while maintaining strict regulatory standards has the potential to create a faster, more transparent, and more accessible global capital market ecosystem.
