MetaMask, Phantom, and Backpack Join Forces: A New Defense Network Launched!

metamask

A major step has been taken in crypto security. MetaMask, Phantom, WalletConnect, and Backpack have partnered with the Security Alliance (SEAL) to establish a global real-time defense network against phishing attacks. This initiative was launched after crypto scammers stole more than $400 million during the first half of 2025. The new system aims to create a “decentralized immune system” to combat one of the biggest security threats in the crypto world phishing attacks.

“We United to Prevent the Next Major Phishing Attack”

The MetaMask team stated, “We have joined forces to launch a global phishing defense network capable of protecting every user in the ecosystem.” The founding team of SEAL emphasized that this network will allow users around the world to help “prevent the next major phishing attack.”

This new system will enable instant sharing of verified phishing reports among leading wallet providers such as MetaMask, Phantom, WalletConnect, and Backpack. It integrates with SEAL’s recently introduced “verifiable phishing reports” mechanism, which can cryptographically prove whether a suspicious website truly contains phishing elements.

Strengthening Crypto Wallet Defense

This collaboration marks a turning point for Web3 security. The system automatically verifies user-submitted reports and distributes them in real time among participating wallets.

SEAL explained:

“Anyone with a valid report can trigger a phishing alert across all network participants instantly and without special permissions. This leads to faster threat response times and saves millions of dollars.”

The goal is to integrate this defense system into as many wallets as possible. With this approach, malicious domains can be quickly identified and blocked, and users can be warned before an attack occurs.

Backpack Takes a Leading Role in the Security Ecosystem

One of the key partners in this initiative, Backpack, has recently gained attention for its multi-chain, security-focused wallet infrastructure. Through the SEAL partnership, Backpack will contribute actively to the decentralized threat intelligence network, developing real-time signal systems to detect malicious websites and fraudulent smart contracts.

“We want to make Web3 security user-driven. Backpack’s participation shows that this defense network is ready for a multi-chain future.”
MetaMask Security Engineer, Ohm Shah

Global Collaboration Against Emerging Threats

According to CertiK data, phishing attacks accounted for the largest share of all security breaches in the first half of 2025, causing over $400 million in losses.
Most of these losses stemmed from sophisticated scams known as “crypto drainers”, which redirect users to fake websites to steal their assets.

The SEAL report highlights that attackers:

  • rapidly change domain names when blocklists are updated,
  • move to offshore hosting infrastructures after takedowns, and
  • employ cloaking techniques to evade detection.

MetaMask security researcher Ohm Shah described this dynamic as a “never-ending cat-and-mouse game”:

“With the SEAL network, we’ll be able to integrate research directly into implementation. It’s like throwing a wrench into the drainer’s system.”

Web3 Security Enters a New Era

The global network launched by MetaMask, Phantom, WalletConnect, and Backpack in partnership with the Security Alliance (SEAL) marks the beginning of a collective defense era in the crypto world. Through real-time threat sharing, the initiative builds a decentralized security architecture turning every user into an active layer of defense. Experts view this collaboration as a defining step in redefining Web3 security in response to the surge of attacks seen throughout 2025.
