Market Takeaway

The divergence between BTC and ETH ETF flows highlights shifting institutional sentiment. While Bitcoin ETFs experienced notable redemptions, Ethereum ETFs — led by Fidelity — continued to attract steady inflows. Overall, ETF cumulative data still points to strong long-term institutional engagement in crypto markets.

Data reveals that while Ethereum ETFs recorded strong inflows, Bitcoin ETFs displayed a more mixed outlook.

Ethereum ETFs See Strong Inflows

On the Ethereum side, ETHV, CETH, QETH, ETHE (+45.90m), ETH (+22.70m), ETHA (+109.40m), ETHW (+36.60m), FETH (+117.90m) and EZET (+5.50m) recorded a total inflow of +337.70 million dollars. This clearly indicates that institutional and retail interest in Ethereum ETFs remains strong.

Boosted by this momentum, Ethereum price reached a historic milestone last night, hitting a new ATH (all-time high) of $4,880. This record highlights investors’ growing confidence in ETH and the direct impact of ETF inflows on the market.

Bitcoin ETFs Show a Mixed Picture

The situation looks different for Bitcoin. No inflows were observed for BTCO, BTC, BTCW and BRRR, while GBTC (+6.40m), FBTC (+50.90m), ARKB (+65.70m), BITB (+12.70m), HODL (+26.40m) and EZBC (+13.50m) added up to a total of -23.20 million dollars.

Despite this imbalance, Bitcoin price surged to around $177,000, supported by the overall positive market sentiment. Still, the ETF data shows that investors remain more cautious on the BTC side.

Macro Impact: Powell’s Remarks

During yesterday’s Jackson Hole meeting, Fed Chair Jerome Powell delivered relatively positive remarks that played a major role in fueling the rally. His references to potential “controlled easing steps” boosted demand for risk assets, further supporting momentum in both Ethereum and Bitcoin.

Net Outflows from Bitcoin ETFs: Are Investors Taking Profits?

According to the day’s ETF data, the prominent outflows are as follows:

With these figures, the total outflow stood at $131.4 million. Bitcoin, which had been consolidating around the $100,000 level for a long time, recently experienced a rapid surge to $120,000 levels.
Ethereum, which had been trading sideways at low price levels for a long time, recently broke its price correlation with Bitcoin and gained stronger momentum. This rise was particularly supported by institutional investor interest. The strong inflows into Ethereum ETF products clearly reflect this institutional demand.

Rate Cut Expectations Will Guide Crypto

The movements on both the Bitcoin and Ethereum sides are closely related to global macroeconomic expectations. In particular, the U.S. Federal Reserve’s (FED) anticipated interest rate cut remains the most decisive factor affecting crypto ETFs.

Market attention is now focused on a potential rate cut decision toward the end of 2025. Such a development could lay the groundwork for a new rally in both cryptocurrencies and associated ETF products.

The crypto markets kicked off July with increased ETF activity.
This highlights that institutional interest remains largely focused on Bitcoin.

Strong Inflows into Bitcoin ETFs

As of July 2, the most notable inflows were as follows:

FBTC: +$184 million

HODL: +$5.4 million

Total net inflow: $407.8 million

These strong inflows indicate that spot Bitcoin ETFs are regaining investor confidence, with institutional capital flowing back into the market.

Modest Outflows from Ethereum ETFs

On the Ethereum side, the data paints a more cautious picture:

ETH: +$8.1 million

ETHW: +$8.3 million

ETHV: +$2.8 million

Other ETFs showed zero net movement.

In total, this results in a net outflow of $1.9 million across Ethereum ETFs.

This suggests that interest in Ethereum ETFs has yet to reach desired levels, with investors showing more caution compared to Bitcoin.

Where Is Institutional Interest Focused?

The data reveals a clear trend: growing institutional demand for Bitcoin ETFs, while Ethereum products still struggle to attract significant volume.

Key reasons behind this discrepancy include:

Bitcoin’s position as the market leader and its clearer regulatory framework

Institutional investors still favoring Bitcoin-focused strategies over alternatives

BlackRock IBIT ETF on the Rise

BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), became the fifth highest capital-attracting ETF in U.S. markets in 2025. Since the beginning of the year, the fund has attracted over $9 billion in investments. Especially in recent months and weeks, it has garnered significant interest. In just four weeks, the fund received $6.5 billion in new capital. Investors are moving away from traditionally low-yield instruments toward Bitcoin ETFs with high growth potential. The leadership of a global financial giant like BlackRock supports positive expectations for the sector’s future.

Eric Balchunas states that BlackRock is currently the second-largest Bitcoin holder in the world, trailing only Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. If BlackRock continues accumulating Bitcoin at this pace through its ETF, it is expected to become the largest Bitcoin holder by next summer.

IBIT’s success is largely attributed to its low management fee and strong security measures. The fund’s management fee is set at just 0.25%, making it highly competitive compared to similar funds. Furthermore, its partnership with Coinbase Prime ensures top-level security for digital assets. BlackRock’s extensive investor network and institutional infrastructure boost IBIT’s market liquidity, enabling investors to buy and sell the fund with ease. Data from Thomas Fahrer shows that IBIT has received a total inflow of 2,705 BTC worth $287.5 million.

Comparison of IBIT and Other Bitcoin ETFs

Besides IBIT, there are various Bitcoin ETF options in the market. One of the most well-known is the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), managing about $10 billion in assets. However, its management fee is quite high at 2.0%. Additionally, GBTC is not a spot Bitcoin ETF. Therefore, significant discrepancies may arise between the market price and the fund’s net asset value (NAV), creating disadvantages for investors.

On the other hand, the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) and Valkyrie Bitcoin Strategy ETF are futures-based funds with different structures. These funds invest in Bitcoin futures contracts. Unlike spot Bitcoin, futures-based ETFs can show price inconsistencies from time to time. Additionally, the volatility of these funds is generally higher compared to spot Bitcoin ETFs. Their management fees are around 0.95%.

Bitcoin investors pulled a record total of $333 million from BlackRock’s IBIT ETF over three consecutive trading days.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) saw its largest daily outflow since launching a year ago. After the New Year holiday, trading resumed in the U.S., and on January 2, IBIT experienced a record outflow of $332.6 million, according to data from Farside Investors.

This outflow marks the highest amount since the product’s launch in January 2024, surpassing the previous record of $188.7 million set on December 24. Additionally, it highlights a new record of three consecutive trading days of outflows for this BTC investment product. Over the past week, IBIT has seen a total outflow of $392.6 million.

BlackRock ETF Outflows Accelerate

The latest outflows can be seen as a minor fluctuation in the broader picture. According to Bloomberg data shared by senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, BlackRock’s fund ranked third among all exchange-traded funds in the United States in 2024, with inflows totaling $37.2 billion.

The leading ETF for the year was Vanguard 500 Index Fund, with inflows of $116 billion, while iShares Core S&P 500 ETF came in second with $89 billion in inflows.

Bitcoin pioneer Adam Back commented, “Maybe in 2025, Bitcoin ETFs will take the top spot with more inflows and higher prices.”

Top ETFs in the U.S. by Inflows in 2024

On January 2, despite the outflow trend from BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, Bitwise, Fidelity, and Ark 21Shares saw inflows of $48.3 million, $36.2 million, and $16.5 million, respectively. Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust also saw a small inflow of $6.9 million, while its larger GBTC fund experienced an outflow of $23.1 million.

The total net outflow for the day came to $242 million, as BlackRock’s outflows offset the inflows of its competitors.

On the same day, ETF Store President Nate Geraci shared some predictions for crypto ETFs in 2025.

These include the merging of spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, the trading of spot ETH ETF options, in-kind creation and redemption options for spot BTC and ETH ETFs, staking for spot Ether funds, and the approval of a spot Solana ETF.

Geraci commented, “Actually, all of these will happen.”

Total Inflows to U.S. Spot Bitcoin ETFs Surpass $30 Billion as BTC Nears $100,000.

Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) launched in January in the U.S. have surpassed $30 billion in total net inflows for the first time.

The re-election of former President Donald Trump has fueled positive market sentiment, leading to increased trading volumes and net inflows for these funds. On Wednesday, the total net asset value of these ETFs exceeded the $100 billion milestone. On Thursday, 12 Bitcoin ETFs reported a total daily net inflow of $1 billion, bringing the cumulative total inflows to $30.35 billion.
