Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, shortened the deadline he had given for Russia to start peace talks with Ukraine to 10 days. Trump announced that if Russia does not reach an agreement by August 7-9, he plans to impose harsher sanctions on the country.

Trump expressed his frustration over Russia’s lack of progress in peace efforts and decided to shorten the previous 50-day deadline. The President said, “It is not reasonable to allow Russia more time. Concrete steps must be taken to end this war,” he stated.

Trump’s statements came at a time when Russia’s attacks on Ukraine have intensified. Recently, an attack on a prison in Zaporizhzhia resulted in the death of 16 detainees and the injury of 43 others. An attack on a hospital in the Dnipropetrovsk region also claimed the lives of three people. Trump stated that if such attacks continue, he would impose new trade restrictions and customs duties up to 100% on Russia.

Support from Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Trump’s tough stance. Zelensky emphasized that the international community should impose harsher sanctions on Russia. In a statement via Telegram, he said, “Russia’s targeting of civilians is a violation of international humanitarian law. Effective sanctions must be imposed against these violations.” However, Russia rejected the new deadline given by Trump. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia does not intentionally target civilian objectives and remains committed to peace talks. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that Trump’s ultimatums could escalate the war and that the U.S. approach resembled that of the Biden administration.

The Future of Peace Remains Uncertain

Trump’s tough stance aims to put significant pressure on Russia during a period when the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is deepening. However, the future of peace talks remains uncertain as Moscow has yet to accept this new ultimatum. This move by Trump is seen as a significant shift in foreign policy.

Global trade is moving fast, but this time, it’s not excitement—it’s tension. The world’s two economic giants, China and the U.S., are on the brink of a new trade war. China has launched an investigation into Google while imposing export controls and tariffs on key U.S. industries.

China’s Strategic Move: Restrictions on Critical Metal Exports

At the break of dawn, Beijing made a major announcement: export restrictions on 25 rare metal products and technologies! Tungsten, tellurium, molybdenum, bismuth, and indium are essential elements for many industries worldwide. Without these, electric vehicles, semiconductors, and military technologies could face serious disruptions.

This move serves as a warning to Western companies: never underestimate the innovation power of Chinese engineers and scientists!

Google Under Investigation: Accused of Monopoly Practices

But China’s strategy isn’t just about export restrictions. The State Administration for Market Regulation has launched an official investigation against Google for allegedly violating China’s Anti-Monopoly Law. This is seen as a reflection of China’s efforts to strengthen its technological independence.

And Google is not alone! U.S.-based companies PVH and Illumina are also under scrutiny and could face sanctions.

Heavy Tariffs on the U.S.: Trade Balance in Turmoil

It remains to be seen how Washington will respond to these developments, but China’s new tariff measures could put several U.S. industries under pressure.

A 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

A 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large-volume automobiles.

These actions signal a major shake-up in global markets. China’s latest moves are not just trade war tactics but strategic steps shaping the future of the global economic order.

How will the U.S. respond? Is the trade war entering its next phase? The world is watching, holding its breath…

The Russian parliament has approved legislation that will allow the use of cryptocurrencies for international trade and legalize cryptocurrency mining.

The move is seen as a direct response to Western sanctions and banking restrictions, which have hampered Russia’s ability to conduct global trade. By enabling certain industries to utilize crypto, the country aims to circumvent these obstacles.

While domestic cryptocurrency payments remain prohibited, the new law marks a significant shift in Russia’s stance on digital assets. It aligns with similar strategies adopted by other nations, such as Venezuela, which has employed crypto to evade sanctions.

The legalization of cryptocurrency mining is another key component of the bill. It outlines a regulatory framework for mining operations, including tax obligations and oversight by a federal agency. The law also includes provisions to protect investors and prevent illicit activities, such as a ban on cryptocurrency advertising.

These developments position Russia as a potential global player in the cryptocurrency space, challenging existing regulatory norms and exploring alternative financial systems.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has issued a stark warning about the potential for the US government to target Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin by market capitalization. Garlinghouse made the remarks during a recent episode of the World Class Podcast with Chris Vasquez.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Claims US Government Targeting Tether

According to Garlinghouse, potential US action against the stablecoin issuer could trigger significant disruption in the crypto space.

“The US government is coming after Tether. That’s very clear to me. I see Tether as a very important part of the ecosystem, and I don’t know how to predict the impact that would have on the rest of the ecosystem,” Garlinghouse stated.

This assertion comes amid growing scrutiny surrounding Tether, following revelations that its USDT stablecoin has been utilized by terrorist organizations and sanctioned nations to circumvent US financial restrictions.

In April, US Treasury Under Secretary Adewale Adeyemo testified before the Senate Banking Committee, highlighting Russia’s increasing adoption of alternative payment methods, including Tether’s USDT, to evade economic sanctions.

“We have seen Russia increasingly turn to alternative payment mechanisms, including the stablecoin tether, to bypass our sanctions and continue to finance its war machine,” Adeyemo remarked.

Concurrently, a UN report shed light on the pervasive use of cryptocurrencies for illicit activities, with USDT on the TRON blockchain emerging as a prominent tool, particularly within illicit online gambling platforms.

Despite these concerns, Tether maintains its commitment to compliance standards and collaboration with law enforcement to combat illicit financing.

The company has implemented proactive measures, including freezing addresses associated with entities engaging in illicit activities.

Tether’s USDT maintains its position as the leading stablecoin by market capitalization, boasting a circulating supply of approximately $110 billion. Notably, the company reported a historic first-quarter net profit of $4.52 billion.
