What is Gensyn?

Gensyn enables scalable decentralized AI training

Gensyn is a protocol that connects computers worldwide to create a decentralized machine learning (ML) network. Its goal is to run ML tasks consistently and verifiably on any device, enabling AI systems to scale beyond the limitations of centralized infrastructures. Built on an Ethereum-based rollup, Gensyn operates through four core components: consistent ML execution, trustless verification, peer-to-peer communication, and decentralized coordination.

Team / Founders

The Gensyn founding team consists of scientists and engineers with extensive experience in AI research and distributed computing. They develop the protocol to improve the scalability and verifiability of deep learning models. The company initially operates as Gensyn Limited and functions fully remotely.

Founding Partners

Harry Grieve: Co-founder of Gensyn, an entrepreneur experienced in AI and blockchain.
Ben Fielding: Co-founder of Gensyn, specialized in deep learning and protocol architecture.

Investors & Key Partners

Gensyn has raised $50.6M across multiple rounds, supported by leading AI and crypto investors. The Seed round was led by Eden Block, and the Series A round by a16z Crypto. Notable partners include Protocol Labs (IPFS integration), Polkadot/Kusama (parachain), and a16z Crypto (strategic partnership).

Project Concept

Gensyn provides a network to train and run large-scale machine learning models without relying on centralized servers. Participants can contribute idle computing power, forming a global computational pool. This model accelerates decentralized AI development while reducing costs.

How It Works

The protocol consists of four layers:

  • Consistent ML Execution: Ensures the same input produces the same output across all devices.

  • Trustless Verification: Tasks are independently verified; errors are detected and resolved.

  • Peer-to-Peer Communication: Workloads are efficiently distributed among devices.

  • Decentralized Coordination: Participants are assigned, incentives distributed, and payments automated.

Participants are categorized into four roles: Submitters, Solvers, Verifiers, and Whistleblowers. Tasks are monitored through training and verification steps.

Governance

Post-TGE, Gensyn will be governed in a decentralized manner. Initially, technical development is managed by Gensyn Limited. Meanwhile, the Gensyn Foundation represents protocol interests and issues tokens. Governance is conducted via an elected council using on-chain proposals and referendums. Early council members are core team and early community members, gradually moving toward decentralization. Additionally, the foundation manages a treasury funded by a small percentage of task fees to support ongoing protocol and ecosystem development.

Roadmap

  • Testnet: Core technology is tested; early participants are rewarded.

  • Canarynet: Beta on Kusama parachain, using canary tokens for economic testing.

  • Mainnet: Full-featured, public network on Polkadot parachain with mainnet token.

Token Info & Distribution

Token allocation and total supply are determined at TGE. Tokens are primarily used for network transactions and task payments. Gensyn supports distributed ML experiments through products like RL Swarm, BlockAssist, and Judge. The ecosystem focuses on research, community, and collaboration.

Key Features

  • Decentralized and open-source

  • Globally scalable ML computation

  • Low-cost, transparent, and verifiable AI training

  • Secure, economical Ethereum rollup-based network

  • Automated incentives and payments for participants

Participant Roles

  • Submitters: Provide tasks and pay for completed work.

  • Solvers: Train models and generate proofs for verification.

  • Verifiers: Duplicate and check Solvers’ proofs, linking training to deterministic computation.

  • Whistleblowers: Audit Verifiers and can claim rewards for detecting errors.

Ecosystem

Gensyn serves as a foundational infrastructure for ML computation. Applications include CodeAssist, RL-Swarm, and SageMaker-like abstractions. Integrations support Polkadot parachains and IPFS. The community participates via Discord and GitHub, running nodes to contribute. The foundation funds research and data labs. Long-term, Gensyn aims for collective ownership of global AGI while monetizing idle compute to reduce carbon footprint.

Gensyn establishes a foundational layer for Web3 by making decentralized ML computation widely accessible. Consequently, the network supports scalable, collaborative AI model development, enabling humanity to collectively advance machine learning.
