An Analyst’s Claims About Ethereum Stir Up the Crypto Community!

Ethereum

On October 7, Bloomberg’s senior ETF analyst, Eric Balchunas, made a post that angered the Ethereum community.

In his post, he made a controversial claim that Ethereum (ETH) is not as secure as Bitcoin (BTC). Although the post was soon deleted, it sparked a significant reaction in the crypto world.

Balchunas responded to a book recommendation request from ETF Store President Nate Geraci with a quote from Benjamin Hart’s book *Bitcoin: A Beginner’s Guide*. The claim suggested that if the U.S. government shut down cloud services on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the Ethereum network would be severely impacted.

However, according to Ethernodes data, only 28.4% of Ethereum nodes are hosted on AWS. This percentage is not enough for the entire network to go offline.

Additionally, another bold claim from the book suggested that a rogue state or terrorist organization could kidnap Ethereum’s founder, Vitalik Buterin, to take control of Ether. These speculations caused a significant uproar in the Ethereum community.

Ethereum educator Anthony Sassano harshly criticized Balchunas’ post, labeling it as “blatantly false information and almost pure propaganda.” Sassano also said that Balchunas should be ashamed for making the post.

Consensys product manager Jimmy Ragosa also dismissed these claims as “propaganda.” Meanwhile, Balchunas’ colleague, ETF analyst James Seyffart, responded ironically to the post, saying he found the debate amusing.
