Roger Ver, an early investor in Bitcoin (BTC), has been arrested in Europe. According to a statement by the US Department of Justice, Ver was arrested in Spain on charges of fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns.

Allegedly, Ver failed to report his Bitcoin holdings to the IRS and caused a total loss of $48 million.

It is claimed that Ver’s two companies had approximately 70,000 Bitcoin in June 2017. Ver owned this Bitcoin at the time and sold tens of thousands of them through cryptocurrency exchanges for approximately $240 million in November 2017.

The Department of Justice statement also said:

“Although Ver is not a US citizen, he was required to file and pay taxes on dividends he received from US companies MemoryDealers and Agilestar.”

“Ver renounced his US citizenship in 2014 after taking citizenship in Saint Kitts and Nevis.”

“Ver is considered one of the early proponents of Bitcoin and served as the former CEO of Bitcoin.com.”
