White House Crisis! Trump’s Tariffs and Fed Showdown

White House Trump import tariffs

The US International Trade Court’s decision to halt the import tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump has provoked a strong reaction from the White House. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt described the ruling as an “abuse of judicial authority.” Furthermore, she stated, “Courts should have no role in this matter.”

During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the court decision an “abuse of judicial authority.” Leavitt said:

“President Trump exercised his full and proper legal authority in imposing these tariffs. This ruling represents the judiciary taking on powers not granted to them,” accusing the court of overstepping constitutional limits.

“The legal basis and common sense behind the President’s robust tariff implementation were sound. There is a disturbing and dangerous trend of unelected judges inserting themselves into presidential decision-making processes.”
— Karoline Leavitt, White House Spokesperson

She claimed the court “usurped” President Trump’s authority and hindered the elected leader from fulfilling his duties. The spokesperson argued that the judges’ decision harms the US’s credibility on the international stage.

“These judges pose a threat to the United States’ credibility globally. The Supreme Court must put an end to this on behalf of our Constitution and country.”
— Karoline Leavitt

The White House also announced it has filed a new motion to stay the ruling pending appeal. However, Leavitt emphasized that the ultimate solution lies with the Supreme Court permanently stopping such interventions.

The Trump administration continues to defend the 145% tariffs on Chinese imports. It argues that these policies have protected American industries and workers while strengthening the US’s negotiating position with China.

Strong Reaction from the White House

The White House stresses that President Trump holds additional legal authority to implement these tariffs. Leavitt stated, “We will win this fight in court, and the President will continue to enforce ‘America First’ trade policies.”

“The President’s authority to impose these tariffs is not only legal but essential for our economic interests. This case is a test not only of Trump’s powers but also of the American people’s will.”
“These countries see how absurd the court ruling is and continue to trust President Trump.”
— Karoline Leavitt

Meanwhile, President Trump is maintaining his tough stance on trade policy in monetary policy as well. After meeting Fed Chair Jerome Powell, Trump said that failing to cut interest rates is a grave mistake.

He remarked, “Not lowering interest rates weakens the US economically against China.” The Fed, however, declined to comment on Powell’s monetary policy stance, stating decisions will be based on economic data.

The US International Trade Court’s ruling to block Trump’s tariffs created a positive reaction in the markets. For example, the New York Stock Exchange closed the day with gains following the decision.
