Binance Adds ‘Will Feature’ to Protect User Assets After Death

With crypto assets uniquely controlled by individuals, the question arises—what happens when a holder dies? Binance founder CZ has brought this topic to light, urging platforms to integrate a “will function” to manage inheritance of digital wealth.

CZ: “No One Lives Forever”

In a recent post on X, CZ stated, “This is a topic people avoid, but the fact is, humans cannot live forever.” He stressed the importance of enabling asset distribution based on predefined instructions. According to CZ, every platform should ensure that users can designate accounts and proportions for inheritance.

Binance Rolls Out Emergency Contact Feature

On June 12, Binance introduced a new inheritance feature, allowing users to appoint an emergency contact. If an account shows prolonged inactivity, the platform will notify the designated contact, who can then initiate the inheritance process.

Legal Experts Urge Action

Dubai-based attorney Irina Heaver emphasized the growing need for estate planning in crypto. She warned that many families are locked out of accessing digital wealth without technical details and inheritance protocols. Investors aged 27–42, who dominate the crypto market, often neglect end-of-life planning, she added.

The new Binance feature is seen as a major step toward safeguarding user assets and setting new industry standards for digital inheritance.
